Story
Harvey is a 3 year old half shih tzu and half pomsky. He is a wonderful dog with a fantastic personality. He is a happy and loyal companion. People are always commenting on his smile and his looks, he has a beautiful tail! He loves car rides, playing with his toys, walks, and dog parks. He is fully housebroken, so no worries there. Even though he does shed a little he still needs regular grooming. Harvey has a hard time adjusting to new circumstances, he has anxiety when people come to the house to visit and he is curious and overly cautious if the visitors are young children. We have a very active household with people often coming and going so we would like to find Harvey a more quiet home. If you want a good looking, fun loving, and loyal dog, and you have a quite life without small children, Harvey is the dog you want!

Story
Zero is a sweet but a little dopey, in the most lovable ways. He is a criminally offensive mastermind with a sweet tooth and a lust for face kisses. Thinks he is a cat; Will lay on children, your cat, your face-- this wild and fancy-free pup doesn't care. Good with kids (but will knock over even the sturdiest man, woman or child) Needs a little training as far as manners-- can sit and stay though. Some accidents in the house due to his continuous baked goods thievery. (Excellent Roomba and mop feature included) Gets along with other dogs and made an amazing one-time "oops" father (now neutered) Loves cats to almost an offensive point--usually a soggy, grumpy point. Escape artist!! Will greet you in the front yard after being put in a fenced back yard. Needs a human (or human family) that can give him the training and time he desperately needs, along with the funds to possibly buy an invisible fence. Little over a year old, but still a big dopey puppy boy.

Story
Meet Rio! Rio came to us as an owner surrender when her humans were moving and could not take her with. We believe she was born in February of 2020. Rio is currently around 50 pounds and we believe she would do best with older kids and adults. Rio is very scared of male humans especially on first meeting, she will bark and become defensive but with time and patience she does get used to them. She goes for a walk with a male dog walker every Saturday and does well. We believe Rio would do okay with other dogs (perhaps close to her size) but we are not sure how she would do with cats. She is a sweet girl that may need a refresher course on potty training and a few basic manners after she goes home. Rio is VERY high energy so she will need a home where she is kept busy / played with a lot! A fence may be ideal so she can run run run! All pets adopted from the Humane Society of Freeborn County will be spayed or neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, testing and will be microchipped. All of this is included in their adoption fee. Fill out an application to adopt at freeborncountyhs.org When transitioning your new pet home please allow for at least 4-6 weeks for your pet to adjust to their new home. They will need this time to decompress, and adjust to a new routine and environment. During that time we will provide check ins and counseling to ensure a successful transition. Please review all basic adoption requirements listed on our website before applying. We take finding the right homes for the animals in our care very seriously. They deserve nothing but the best! Please allow 2-7 days for applications to be processed. If an animal is listed in foster care, these pets are not at our facility, but are in foster care homes. They are still available for adoption, and meet and greets are done with pre-approved applicants only. If you have any questions feel free to send us an email at freeborncohumanesociety@gmail.com, send us a message on Facebook, or call or text 507-377-8501.

Story
Say hey to Daric! Daric came to us after being found as a stray that was never claimed. We believe he was born in July of 2021. Since Daric came to us as a stray, we can not be sure who or what he has experience with, but we believe he would do well with most ages, and perhaps another dog his size that is female. We are not sure how he would do with a cat in his new home. Daric is a very sweet boy that loves attention, and being around people. He is a very food motivated, and knows how to sit, but he isn't sure what toys are quite yet. Daric may need a small refresher course on potty training when learning a new home and routine, but he does pretty well keeping a clean kennel here at the shelter. He is looking forward to finding his forever family! All pets adopted from the Humane Society of Freeborn County will be spayed or neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, testing and will be microchipped. AHFK is primarily a Beagle and small dog rescue. Our focus is to pull from High-Kill Shelters and to save those dogs that are at risk of euthanasia. All AHFK adoptions require an approved, completed application, a Veterinarian and Personal Reference Check, a smoke-free environment, and a home visit. Buddy's adoption fee is $300.00 All our dogs are completely vetted, spayed/neutered, and microchipped. We are currently accepting applications for Buddy. Buddy was surrendered to a Veterinary clinic in the Tulsa OK area. His owner had moved, out of country, and left Buddy with family members. The family did not want Buddy and surrendered him for euthanasia. The veterinary staff could not euthanize Buddy and kept him in a crate until they could find a rescue or adopter. Buddy lived in this crate for 40 days. Buddy needs a securely fenced yard as he loves to visit nearby neighbors and confiscate articles of property that do not belong to him. Buddy needs a human that will have time, patience, and love for him. He has been neglected and allowed to roam freely. He needs a routine and structure. He loves to be outside and thoroughly enjoys leash walking. Buddy shows some issues with resource guarding with other dogs. He has been through training and his new owner will have to carry through with positive reinforcement. We have not had an issue with guarding against humans. Buddy is of the Beagle breed, a natural hunter, therefore, we are looking for a home with a securely fenced yard and a family with one Pet Parent that is a stay-at-home parent, or one which works from home; a family that can help Buddy acclimate to her new surroundings and environment with compassion, love, and patience. Please allow 6-8 weeks for Buddy to acclimate to the changes in his life. We would also like Buddy to be the only dog. Meet and greets are scheduled upon approved, completed application.
