Story
Fern is a super cuddly, loving girl who is excited to greet anyone and everyone. She's so smart (learned most of her known commands in a week...) and loves to love. She is just a little over a year old. She was previously in a home where her needs (energy, food, play) were not being met. She has made wonderful progress in regards of commands and weight! Fern is potty trained, has great recall (her name, come here), understands down, lay down, no, leave it, sit, and wait. She has lots of energy and is ready for walks, runs, and games. Fern needs an experienced, patient, and loving home to help her continue learning. Fern struggles with separation anxiety, destructive chewing (specifically when alone or bored), digging, and leash training. Fern is crate trained but struggles with being alone due to anxiety. Fern is not spayed, but does not have regular bleeds.

Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Our sweet 12-year-old beagle is still on the hunt for her forever home — preferably one with fewer roommates than our current situation (six dogs is apparently too many to be the center of attention). She’s an easy keeper who runs on love, snacks, and proximity to humans. Bedtime is her favorite sport — she will happily curl up next to you and sleep straight through the night… unless she decides she’s not getting her way, in which case you’ll hear her signature “tiny whine of injustice.” Cute at noon, slightly less magical at 2 a.m. When she gets the zoomies, you’ll be treated to full-volume hound commentary. Otherwise, she’s pretty quiet and saves her voice for special occasions only. Mostly, she’s just the sweetest, snuggliest girl who wants nothing more than to be your shadow and soak up all the love she can get. Honestly? She’s a 10/10 good girl who deserves to be someone’s whole world. Photo background is AI generated

Story
Darling is a smaller cattle dog/Shepherd mix born in January 2021. She came in as a stray with another dog. Darling gets along ok with dogs smaller than her, but not so well with bigger dogs. Darling is very smart and aware of everything going on around her. She loves people and loves attention. Darling was adopted earlier this year, but her new mom had to move to assisted living and Darling couldn't go along. She walks well on a leash and rides well in a car. Darling is eager to find a new family and start a new life - would you like to be her new best friend? She hopes she can find a new Home for the Holidays! All pets adopted from the Humane Society of Freeborn County will be spayed or neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, testing and will be microchipped. All of this is included in their adoption fee. Fill out an application to adopt at freeborncountyhs.org When transitioning your new pet home please allow for at least 4-6 weeks for your pet to adjust to their new home. They will need this time to decompress, and adjust to a new routine and environment. During that time we will provide check ins and counseling to ensure a successful transition. Please review all basic adoption requirements listed on our website before applying. We take finding the right homes for the animals in our care very seriously. They deserve nothing but the best! Please allow 2-7 days for applications to be processed. If an animal is listed in foster care, these pets are not at our facility, but are in foster care homes. They are still available for adoption, and meet and greets are done with pre-approved applicants only. If you have any questions feel free to send us an email at freeborncohumanesociety@gmail.com, send us a message on Facebook, or call or text 507-377-8501.

Not good with cats, Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Domino was found as a stray and never claimed. He was born in March of 2022. He is an 80 lb Lab mixed with an energetic goofball. He should be fine with older kids and adults. Domino has some dog friends here, but isn't fond of others, so an introduction to your dog would be a good idea to see if they click. Domino also should be in a cat free home. Domino has a big personality and loves attention, he keeps a clean kennel here, so the transition to home should be easier. Domino really wants a home and a family. Will you come and make his dreams come true? All pets adopted from the Humane Society of Freeborn County will be spayed or neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, testing and will be microchipped. All of this is included in their adoption fee. Story
Meet Buddy Almost Home Foster Kennels, MN Lic. 132328 is a 501c3, not-for-profit, foster-based, rescue organization. AHFK is located in SE Minnesota in the Austin/Albert Lea area. AHFK is primarily a Beagle and small dog rescue. Our focus is to pull from High-Kill Shelters and to save those dogs that are at risk of euthanasia. All AHFK adoptions require an approved, completed application, a Veterinarian and Personal Reference Check, a smoke-free environment, and a home visit. Buddy's adoption fee is $300.00 All our dogs are completely vetted, spayed/neutered, and microchipped. We are currently accepting applications for Buddy. Buddy was surrendered to a Veterinary clinic in the Tulsa OK area. His owner had moved, out of country, and left Buddy with family members. The family did not want Buddy and surrendered him for euthanasia. The veterinary staff could not euthanize Buddy and kept him in a crate until they could find a rescue or adopter. Buddy lived in this crate for 40 days. Buddy needs a securely fenced yard as he loves to visit nearby neighbors and confiscate articles of property that do not belong to him. Buddy needs a human that will have time, patience, and love for him. He has been neglected and allowed to roam freely. He needs a routine and structure. He loves to be outside and thoroughly enjoys leash walking. Buddy shows some issues with resource guarding with other dogs. He has been through training and his new owner will have to carry through with positive reinforcement. We have not had an issue with guarding against humans. Buddy is of the Beagle breed, a natural hunter, therefore, we are looking for a home with a securely fenced yard and a family with one Pet Parent that is a stay-at-home parent, or one which works from home; a family that can help Buddy acclimate to her new surroundings and environment with compassion, love, and patience. Please allow 6-8 weeks for Buddy to acclimate to the changes in his life. We would also like Buddy to be the only dog. Meet and greets are scheduled upon approved, completed application. If interested in meeting Buddy, please complete the application found on our website: almosthomefoster.com

Story
Dillon was found running down Margaretha with a leash still attached, but nobody came for him. He is a beautiful brindle boy with lots of muscle and a big beautiful head. Dillon should be an only animal. Older kids with dog experience would be ok. He is a happy sweet boy. He prefers women and is nervous around men and loud noises. A gal with a quiet home would be Dillon's choice for his next human. He loves car rides and loves to snuggle. All pets adopted from the Humane Society of Freeborn County will be spayed or neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, testing and will be microchipped. All of this is included in their adoption fee.
