Story
Rocky is a handsome 2-year-old male Husky/Akita mix who is looking for his next forever home through no fault of his own—his previous family was moving and sadly couldn’t take him along. He has spent his entire life in a loving home, and we’d love to see him settled into another one as soon as possible. Rocky’s striking tri-color coat is quite unique for his breeds and makes him stand out in the best way. Paired with his fluffy, ultra-soft fur, he’s as beautiful as he is sweet. This fun-loving boy adores other dogs. In the yard, you’ll often find Rocky zooming around, happily playing chase with his canine friends. He gets along wonderfully with dogs of all sizes, genders, and breeds, and he’s especially good at inviting others to play—whether that’s with a playful nose nudge, a gentle leg nibble, or proudly waving a toy to get the game started. While Rocky may seem a bit aloof when you first meet him, don’t be fooled. True to his Husky and Akita roots, he has an independent side and may take a little extra time to fully warm up and build trust. Once he does, you’ll have a devoted companion for life who truly loves his people. He does wonderfully with children and enjoys being part of an active, affectionate household. Rocky is fully potty-trained and crate-trained, and—bonus!—he’s unusually quiet for a Husky. We’ve never heard a classic Husky scream or yowl from him. While he’s currently a bit too enthusiastic for most cats, we believe he could potentially live with one given proper introductions, guidance, and boundaries. Rocky would thrive in a home looking for a playful, social, and loyal companion. In return, he promises a lifetime of love, fun, and entertainment. If you’re ready for a joyful adventure with a truly special dog, Rocky just might be your perfect match.

Story
- Busy pup who loves to connect with people through play and other activities; will likely enjoy physical activity and mental challenges to keep their bodies and brains busy- Prefers to explore and do their own thing here in the shelter, but will likely open up more once they're in a home environment and have had time to decompress - Enjoys spending time with dogs who have a similar play style - Smart boy who knows sit, shake and down- Loves going on walks and does best with a harness- Loves to learn and has great focus - especially if you have treats - so would be a lot of fun to train Tends to be socially awkward with other dogs (dog intro recommended)- Young, noisy or busy children can be too much for them (mature home recommended) This pet qualifies for our 7-day Foster-to-Adopt program. If you're interested in fostering to adopt, please reach out to meetme@arl-iowa.org.All adoptable dogs and puppies are spayed/neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations (rabies and DA2PPV as appropriate for their age)The ARL's shelter software requires that we choose a primary breed for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable, so for most dogs we are only guessing at primary breed. We get to know each dog as an individual and do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not breed label. Primary Color: Black Weight: 54 Age: 4yrs 2mths 1wks
