Story
Meet Aurora ***The first step in the adoption process is to go to www.emmetcountyanimalshelter.org to complete the adoption application*** Hi, my name is Aurora! The humans also call me Rory. I am a young dog looking for an active home. The humans say I can't be much over a year old. I love to wrestle with the other dogs for hours. I like people and will snuggle sometimes but really, I just want to play and run with my dog friends! I have a naughty habit of jumping on people, but the humans are working on it while I'm here. I will likely need continued help remembering people don't want to be jumped on. I was adopted once before, and the people said I would get out of the fence and had more energy than was ideal for their family. Unfortunately, my pent-up energy led me to chewing some things inappropriately and jumping more and more. I do well in the fence at my foster home but I'm never alone. I can be cat tested again if my potential home has cats. but the first time I was in foster I was only curious about the cats and never hurt them. I do take a little bit to get comfortable with new dog friends. but once I'm comfortable we will play forever! I don't particularly care for other dogs getting into my kennel messing with my toys or treats. I am comfortable sharing scattered food and sharing toys though! My ideal home would be a very active home with another dog or two to play with! I will need help with leash manners but I am smart as could be so it shouldn't take long to teach me! I would likely be fine with older kids in the home that won't get hurt if I jump on them. I am house trained, and kennel trained. I also know some basic commands!  If you think your active home may be a fit for me, please submit an application so we can meet and see how we get along! Aurora is up to date on vaccines, spayed and microchipped. Her adoption fee is $250.00 November 4, 2024, 8:52 pm

Story
***The first step in the adoption process is to go to www.emmetcountyanimalshelter.org to complete the adoption application*** This sweet little girl is Raya. Raya started life on the Rez. She had a litter of puppies and a run in with a porcupine that left her needing help. Here is what she has to say.... Hi my name is Raya (Ray-uh)! The humans tell me I’m ready to find my furever home! I would love to find a home with a dog friend. I like to rough house and zoom around with toys. I do have a strong prey drive so I can’t live with cats or other small animals. I also love to snuggle the humans and take naps. I get to sleep in bed some nights and I love that but I also sleep in my kennel some nights and don’t mind! I need to find a home that understands dogs with separation anxiety or at least a home willing to learn how to work with that. I would love to have a dog friend that can kennel beside me so I know I can relax. I prefer my plastic kennel over the wire ones. Once I got settled in to my foster home for a few days I relaxed in my kennel and like to chew on my bones when I don’t feel like sleeping. If I could find a home where the humans are around a lot that might also make me more comfortable! If you have a job working from home I won’t complain. I’m kennel trained and house trained, though we were told in a previous home that I did break out of a wire kennel. We were also told that I’d get out of the house and run away. My fosters don’t have trouble with me getting out of the fence or the house but it’s something to know about me. I promise to bring entertainment and love to my furever home. I’m around 3 years old and around 45 lbs so I’m a great size for many people. I have not been kid tested but I can be if my home may have kids! Raya loves deeply and would love to find a home that loves her back just the same. She is guaranteed to add some laughter and love to the right home! Raya is about two and a half and adoption fee is $250.00 She is up to date on vaccinations, spayed and micro-chipped November 4, 2024, 8:52 pm

Story
***The first step in the adoption process is to complete the application at www.emmetcountyanimalshelter.org*** This pretty girl is Nova! She is the mom to the GSD/Mastiff pups. Nova came from a home of neglect for many years.  She is very much a shepherd in personality and an experienced and patient owner would be what she needs to thrive!  Nova is about 5 years old and for all of those years her life has lacked consistency, stability, a reliable food source. Even water was a resource that was limited.  She has likely not always been treated kindly either and training was not a priority in her life.  However, even given the challenges this girl has faced she is eager to love.  She very much wants to do a good job and she is excited to see the people that have shown her gentle loving attention.  Nova would probably do best as an only dog or with a confident gentle dog that could show her how things are done.  Nova is cautious when meeting people for the first time but warms up quickly. The shelter environment does cause her some anxiety but we feel she would do wonderful on a schedule in a home where she understood what was expected of her in an environment that was focused on physical and mental exercises.  She is gentle with toys and not destructive.  She is spayed, up to date on vaccinations and microchipped.  Her adoption fee is 275.00 It is Nova's time to shine....she just needs the right home to help her on the rest of her journey to a happy ever after! November 4, 2024, 8:52 pm

***The first step in the adoption process is to complete the application at www.emmetcountyanimalshelter.org*** Are you looking for a dog that likes everyone?  Would love to run at the dog park?  Go for car rides?  Hike? Run? Walk? Play ball?  Go for a swim? Cuddle on the couch and share your snacks??? Well have we got a deal for you!  Not often do you come across a dog that seems to be up for just about anything!  Zara was abandoned at impound when her owner just decided not to pick her up.  We don't understand why because we think she is terrific!  This high energy, full of love and eager to learn girl would be ideal for an active person looking for a let's go places and do stuff kind of friend.  While she is still very young at likely around a year old she could benefit from some structure and general obedience but she seems ready to learn and a few treats in your pocket would go a long way with this pretty chocolate colored pupper.  At about 50 pounds of zeal, Zara is spayed, vaccinated and microchipped.  Her adoption fee is $300.00October 21, 2025, 7:04 pm

Story
***The first step in the adoption process is to complete the adoption application at www.emmetcountyanimalshelter.org*** This speckled girl is Lila but the humans call her Bird or Puppy more often than Lila. Our best guess is that she was a late 2023/ early 2024 puppy. Lila is an adorable sweet girl once she knows and trusts you. She is a terrified shut down pup for new people though. When she arrived at her foster home she spent a few days quarantining before she met the other dogs. During that time she was not interested in humans. Once she was let in with the other dogs she started to open up. It took 1-2ish weeks before she decided the humans weren’t a threat. Slowly after that she started asking for pets and eventually decided she likes to sit with the humans and take naps. She did a lot of nervous peeing when she got here but nearly none these days. She still prefers dogs over humans. She loves to romp and wrestle. Her and another foster get to being so chaotic it probably sounds like a dog fight to outsiders but they just love to play. She is kennel trained but does exhibit some separation anxiety so she needs a solid kennel. She likes to sleep out with the humans and will squeal a time or two in the night if she is asked to sleep in the kennel. She is a thief so socks, snacks, anything that she shouldn’t have should be kept up when she’s not being supervised. She is house trained with a dog door. She will not communicate she needs to go out but she will take herself out every time with a dog door. A secure fenced in yard and dog door are a must for this pup. A dog friend would really be ideal as well. She is interested in our cats and will chase them if they run but shows no intention of hurting them. She’s learning to walk on leash and will comply unless something spooks her (cars, people, strange noises, ect). She may not ever be an adventurous dog but she’s shown potential to improve. We have started her on medication to hopefully help her continue to work through some of her troubles. Unfortunately, she was a dumped dog so it’s hard to know her past to know how to undo whenever trauma she may have endured. We can’t tell you that making a choice to adopt Lila will be an easy path but any dog person who has loved a shut down dog can tell you it’s one of the more rewarding bonds to build. If you are interested in Lila please make sure you’re ready to give her time and tools to help her adjust. Being returned would be very difficult for her. If you are semi local to Estherville her fosters would love to do a few meet and greets and would even be happy to drive her to your home and help get her inside/settled in a little.  A little more background from her original rescue...Roscoe and his sister Lila were found abandoned in the countryside.  A kind person took them in so that we could find them each a home to call their own.  Her dogs helped teach the pups the ropes of being good dogs and they are learning more everyday.  Roscoe is outgoing, rambunctious, brave and affectionate.  Lila is sweet, mild, timid and affectionate.  Both pups love other dogs.  They do tend to have a strong prey drive and while there are no cats on the property they do chase other small creatures.  They will need a fair amount of exercise and mental stimulation because they appear to be of the herding group.  The pups were likely born early summer 2024 and are altered, up to date on vaccinations and microchipped.  Their adoption fee is $300.00  Lila is the type of dog you go into a new relationship knowing it will take time, patience, understanding, lots of treats to reward good behaviors and create a positive connection and the willingness to accept setbacks.  She is not aggressive at all in her timid nature but putting her in a position of fight or flight would not be fair and the last time she got away from someone we spent a good deal of time trap training her and eventually catching her.  She would need to always be secure and made to feel safe so only gentle and kind humans need apply! January 10, 2026, 10:02 pm

***The first step in the adoption process is to complete the application at www.emmetcountyanimalshelter.org*** This beautiful, spunky and oh so friendly gal is Robynn.  Robynn came to us with her litter of 9 puppies off of the reservation.  We believe Roynn was born October 2023 and she looks a lot like a Dutch Shepherd.  This girl was friendly the minute she walked out of the transport kennel and into our hearts.  She is an energetic dog that loves to play and run around.  She has so much love to give to people its as if she is almost vibrating she is so excited to see people that might give her pets!!!! Robynn loves to be outside and would likely be a good dog to go on adventures.  Robynn seems to not care much about cats but we can't get a good read on how she feels about other dogs.  She does a lot of barking and setting boundaries with them.  Robyn is about 50ish pounds, spayed, vaccinated and microchipped. Her adoption fee is $275.00   July 4, 2025, 9:46 pm
