Story
Arya was adopted from CVHS as a young puppy, and is back with us now because of conflicts with the cats in the home.Arya is a young, energetic, happy, and loving dog. She enjoys playing fetch, and also loves to cuddle. She lived with children previously, and loved playing with them, though she may sometimes get a little mouthy when she`s excited, so dog-savvy kids would be best. Her previous owner worked from home, so Arya would prefer another person she could spend every minute with, and she does get anxious when left alone. She loves to go for walks, and walks very well on leash. She can be nervous meeting new people, so she may need a potential adopter to meet her a few times here before officially adopting. Arya lived with other large dogs and supposedly did well with them. What we are seeing with Arya at the adoption center is she is very nervous with other dogs, and we have not had success with her finding a dog companion that she wants to coexist with. She does not appear at this time to be a dog who could have playdates at a dog park, and she should not live with dogs, cats, or other small animals. If you know and love the German Shepherd breed, Arya will fill your heart with all those endearing classic traits.A 5-week Good Manners training course is included in Arya`s $350.00 adoption fee. Please call the Adoption Center at 802-476-3811, or email info@centralvermonthumane.org, to schedule a time to talk to an adoption counselor about her, and to determine if you should meet Arya.

Story
Orca is an active, happy boy, looking for new family to meet his needs, and continue guiding him in his youthful development. This boy is friendly, very energetic, loves to play, and loves to run! His previous owner says he is good with kids, loves cats and other dogs. We have not had an opportunity to try his with other dogs here, due to his recent neuter. He walks beautifully on leash, and really wants to please - a goofy guy with lots of love to give! He would probably do well with another dog in his new home, and an active family to channel his energy.A 5-week Good Manners training course is included in Orca`s $350.00 adoption fee. Please call the Adoption Center at 802-476-3811, or email info@centralvermonthumane.org, to schedule a time to talk to an adoption counselor about him, and to determine if you should meet Orca.

Story
Dusty came to CVHS with his canine family, when his owner was moving and unable to take him along.True to his hound genetics, he can be a vocal boy, and will let you know when he`s ready for a walk, mealtime, or anything he feels you need to know. He is crate trained, and getting the hang of walking well on a leash. He has strong feelings about cats, and cannot live with any felines in his next home. He has a nose that likes to work, and loves to chew on a good toy. He has shown at CVHS, and in his prior home, to be selective with his canine friends, so he may need a home without other dogs. He was previously exposed to older children and did just fine. While with us, Dusty injured his ACL, so he has been on reduced exercise for over a month, and he is healing really well! He needs to go to a home where he can get plenty of exercise, but be contained enough to continue to heal. LOTS of sniffy walks and scent work will keep this boy happy and healthy.A 5-week Good Manners training course is included in Dusty`s $350.00 adoption fee. Please call the Adoption Center at 802-476-3811, or email info@centralvermonthumane.org, to schedule a time to talk to an adoption counselor about him, and to determine if you should meet Dusty.

Story
Are you a fan of small and sometimes independent dogs? We have a pair for you! These sweet dachshunds came to CVHS due to their family suffering a house fire. Burt and Baxter have shown us they really prefer the company of each other, so we`d like them to go to a new home together. Baxter is the more outgoing guy, who will trot confidently around his area, and let you know how he is feeling. He loves to give and receive attention by jumping up on your legs, hoping you`ll pick him up, or at least give him some pets. Sometimes he will even roll and show you his belly for gentle rubs. Sometimes, while soaking up attention from his human, he can get jealous if another person approaches, and will nip if they reach for him.Burt is more bashful than Baxter, and definitely looks to Baxter for his confidence. Burt is very sweet, loves to be held and carried. Once he is familiar with you, he loves to sit in your lap for attention. With his personality, he needs an adopter who can let him be him, as he will need time to settle into a new home, and the family`s routine. In their prior home, they both were exposed to kids over 6 years old, have not been exposed to cats, and have done ok with other familiar dogs. Both pups like to relax in their crates, especially if they can share one, and both have a habit of barking at new people. While they have that kid exposure, with the small dog nipping behavior, we recommend a home with older children, or none at all.Due to the age and great leash skills of this duo, their adoption fee is $400 for the pair. An optional training class could be added into the adoption fee, if an adopter is interested in continuing their training and bonding. Both dogs are pending canine dentals to keep them in good health, scheduled for March 18, 2026, so we can talk about them going to a home for foster-to-adopt prior to that. Please call the Adoption Center at 802-476-3811, or email info@centralvermonthumane.org, to schedule a time to talk to an adoption counselor about them, and to determine if you should meet Baxter and Burt.
