Story
Arya was adopted from CVHS as a young puppy, and is back with us now because of conflicts with the cats in the home.Arya is a young, energetic, happy, and loving dog. She enjoys playing fetch, and also loves to cuddle. She lived with children previously, and loved playing with them, though she may sometimes get a little mouthy when she`s excited, so dog-savvy kids would be best. Her previous owner worked from home, so Arya would prefer another person she could spend every minute with, and she does get anxious when left alone. She loves to go for walks, and walks very well on leash. She can be nervous meeting new people, so she may need a potential adopter to meet her a few times here before officially adopting. Arya lived with other large dogs and supposedly did well with them. What we are seeing with Arya at the adoption center is she is very nervous with other dogs, and we have not had success with her finding a dog companion that she wants to coexist with. She does not appear at this time to be a dog who could have playdates at a dog park, and she should not live with dogs, cats, or other small animals. If you know and love the German Shepherd breed, Arya will fill your heart with all those endearing classic traits.A 5-week Good Manners training course is included in Arya`s $350.00 adoption fee. Please call the Adoption Center at 802-476-3811, or email info@centralvermonthumane.org, to schedule a time to talk to an adoption counselor about her, and to determine if you should meet Arya.

Story
Dusty came to CVHS with his canine family, when his owner was moving and unable to take him along.True to his hound genetics, he can be a vocal boy, and will let you know when he`s ready for a walk, mealtime, or anything he feels you need to know. He is crate trained, and getting the hang of walking well on a leash. He has strong feelings about cats, and cannot live with any felines in his next home. He has a nose that likes to work, and loves to chew on a good toy. He has shown at CVHS, and in his prior home, to be selective with his canine friends, so he may need a home without other dogs. He was previously exposed to older children and did just fine. While with us, Dusty injured his ACL, so he has been on reduced exercise for over a month, and he is healing really well! He needs to go to a home where he can get plenty of exercise, but be contained enough to continue to heal. LOTS of sniffy walks and scent work will keep this boy happy and healthy.A 5-week Good Manners training course is included in Dusty`s $350.00 adoption fee. Please call the Adoption Center at 802-476-3811, or email info@centralvermonthumane.org, to schedule a time to talk to an adoption counselor about him, and to determine if you should meet Dusty.

Story
Cece (aka Ghost) is a 3-year-old, 40 lb, spayed Husky/Aussie/Great Pyrenees mix (best guess!) with a BIG personality and an even bigger hop, seriously, this girl can jump! If you’ve ever wanted a dog who would crush it at agility (or just impress your friends in the backyard), Cece is your athlete. She’s the perfect blend of spunky and sweet: active and adventurous outside, but calm and well-mannered in the house. Cece is crate trained, house trained, and eager to learn, making her an awesome match for someone excited to keep building her skills. She’d love an adopter who enjoys staying active, hiking, walking, and even skiing are right up her alley! Cece is also non-destructive and wants to be a good girl… but fair warning: she does like to jump, so she may not be the best fit for a home with very small children. With a little continued training and structure, she’ll shine even brighter. Cece is likely a double merle, which gives her some unique genetic differences, and honestly, makes her even more special. If you look into her cloudy blue eyes, they’re like tiny galaxies staring back at you. If you’re looking for a fun-loving, snow-adoring adventure buddy with tons of potential and a magical look, Cece might be your perfect match.

Story
Scout is almost 3 yrs old, neutered male Border Collie weighing 38 lbs. Scout is a wonderful, happy, bouncy little boy who’s eager for human interaction. His original parents could no longer take care of him due to health issues, and his new home cannot provide him the personal attention he needs to thrive. He lives with dogs smaller and larger than he and gets along very well with all, even the cats. He also lives with chickens which he doesn’t chase…except the first time he saw them! During food time, he waits until he’s invited in to eat and does so around the other dogs without issue. While I can put my hand in his food while he eats, he bares his teeth at the other dogs if they approach. He’s been around toddlers, though he was wary. We feel he would do best in a home with older children or no children. Scout is up for adoption because we want to improve his life. Beyond jumping and getting in your face when you bend over he has no behavior issues. He’s a really sweet dog who will certainly flourish with proper guidance and direction: he’s SUPER eager to please and strongly desires to bond. Scout’s ideal home would be active and engaging to fulfill his natural BC traits to have a job and follow direction from his person: it would be wonderful for him to use his natural instincts to work on a farm. He needs a job and he needs more structure. We need to find him HIS person. He loves to swim in the pond in the summer and to have snow shoveled on him in the winter. He also loves to be groomed, and allows us to use trimmers on his fur and handle his paws. And to be picked up and held like a baby that’s his favorite. Warning: he has a history of running after cars so applicants must be able to address this.

Story
Meet Dixie & Talia – a bonded pair! Dixie is a 12-year-old Chihuahua (nicknamed Piglet) who loves dog beds, plays hard, then naps hard. She’s mostly pad-trained, does well with a fenced yard, and takes Carprofen for mild arthritis but stays active. Together, these two are sweet, funny, and great with dogs, cats, and even poultry. They’d thrive in a home with a fenced yard to play and then snuggle. They come with beds, crate, toys, chews, meds, records, leashes, and collars. Adoption fee for the pair is $500.
