Story
Buffy is a 13-year-old Shih Tzu with the heart of a teddy bear and the soul of a professional napper. Buffy came to us in 2023 after her beloved owner entered hospice care. Buffy is truly a love bug. She adores people, loves being a lap dog, and would happily spend her days snoozing beside you or curled up in bed at night. She gets along wonderfully with cats, dogs, and small children making her an easy addition to most homes. She’s calm, affectionate, and happiest when she’s close to her humans. Over the years, we worked hard to solve Buffy’s allergy issues and finally discovered she is allergic to grass, lamb, and coconut. Thankfully, she is now doing great on medication and her adopter will receive a full year supply of Zenrelia to help keep her comfortable. Buffy is also an absolute professional at taking her medicine especially if cheese or a pill pocket is involved. Buffy does have some special needs that come with being a senior lady. She is visually impaired and has limited depth perception, which means she can accidentally tumble off beds or couches if left unattended. She also doesn’t love having her face groomed or her eyes cleaned, though she behaves beautifully for the rest of her spa day. Buffy is also hard of hearing… selectively, of course. She may ignore loud noises during nap time, but somehow can still hear a snack bag from another room. Speaking of snacks....if food exists anywhere nearby, Buffy firmly believes she deserves some too. Her nose is fully operational and always on duty. Buffy is fully housetrained and does best going outside every 6 hours during the day, though she happily sleeps through the night. She is looking for a loving home that understands senior dogs deserve comfort, patience, and lots of soft places to nap. If you’re searching for a sweet, loyal companion who will fill your home with love, snuggles, and a little bit of comedy, Buffy may be your perfect match. Story
Pumpkin Lumpkin looks like someone took a classic redbone coonhound, added extra-soft velvet ears, sprinkled in a little bit of melted marshmallow personality, and then accidentally hit the “extra large cuddle edition” button. This beautiful two-year-old coonhound mix is basically a sleepy southern lady wrapped in floppy ears and good manners. Seriously, her ears are so long and dramatic that we’re fairly certain she was built at the Floppy Ear Factory™ and they simply refused to stop production. They bounce when she walks, puddle onto the floor when she lays down, and honestly deserve their own fan club. And speaking of laying down… Pumpkin’s favorite hobby is being comfortable. Couch? Amazing. Soft dog bed? Incredible. Grass in the sunshine? Perfect. Your lap, despite her size? She’ll consider it. Watch Pumpkin in action here! https://youtu.be/N-A7vuBSOcg?si=m9R_PvAOCD71Ztua Pumpkin is the definition of low-maintenance. Her foster mother describes her as an incredibly easy, sweet dog who has been wonderful in the home. She walks beautifully on leash, enjoys calmly wandering around the yard, and seems genuinely happiest just existing peacefully near her people. She’s not demanding, chaotic, or overly energetic, she’s more of a “let’s slowly stroll around and then immediately take a nap about it” kind of girl. Pumpkin is incredibly tolerant and sweet with people. During handling tests she accepted everything calmly and gently, and one volunteer even used her as a personal pillow while she happily tolerated the affection like the patient angel she is. She met many strangers and we quickly came to realize that there is no such thing in her book. Every person gets immediate full body wags from Pumpkin. She may not immediately throw herself dramatically into your arms, but once she settles in, she absolutely melts into love in the softest, sweetest way. With other dogs, Pumpkin is wonderfully polite and refreshingly unproblematic. She greeted dogs appropriately, handled rowdy dogs well, and mostly just wanted to wander around and mind her own business after saying hello. She currently lives with smaller dogs in foster care and does great with them, but she’s definitely more “pleasant coworker” than “wild party girl.” If another dog wants nonstop wrestling matches, Pumpkin will probably excuse herself and go lay down somewhere comfy instead. Because of her calm personality, she could do well either with another respectful, lower-energy dog or as a spoiled solo princess soaking up all the couch space. She also tested well around calm, dog-savvy cats who respect boundaries and don’t constantly try to engage her. A chill cat companion who likes peaceful coexistence would likely fit her vibe just fine. But we’d definitely do a kitty sleepover just be sure! We haven’t had the chance to officially kid test Pumpkin yet, but she has shown so many qualities that suggest she could make a wonderful family dog, gentle, tolerant, easygoing, and affectionate without being overwhelming. So let us know if you want to see Pumpkin’s kiddo potential and we will get her kid tested asap. As for apartment life, Pumpkin could potentially do well in the right setting because she’s so low energy and easy on leash, but her foster says she does occasionally remember she is, in fact, part hound and can get a little vocal about her opinions. So a house with a yard or a more hound-friendly apartment situation may be the better fit for this long-eared lady. She’s currently on a little wellness journey, which is a very polite way of saying Pumpkin has clearly never turned down a snack in her life. Because she’s carrying some extra fluff right now, she can get tired pretty quickly, but underneath it all is an easygoing, happy girl who still enjoys exploring and sniffing around. Think “retired auntie energy” in the absolute best way possible. Pumpkin’s dream home probably includes: -A soft couch -A slower pace of life -Leisurely sniffy walks -Humans who appreciate giant floppy ears -Snacks in moderation (her trainer made us add that) -Lots of love and absolutely no pressure to become an athlete She’s sweet, silly, soulful, and impossibly easy to adore. If you’ve ever wanted a dog that feels like a warm weighted blanket with ears, Pumpkin may just be your perfect girl. Ready to welcome a new furry friend into your life? Story
May is an adorable 8-week-old shepherd mix with a curious spirit and the sweetest snuggles. As the last remaining puppy from a litter of 10 who found themselves at the local shelter, she’s patiently waiting for a family to finally call her own! This little explorer loves checking out the world around her, whether that means investigating new toys, following her doggie friends around the yard, or finding the perfect cozy lap for cuddle time. She’s playful, affectionate, and already showing what a smart and loving companion she’ll grow up to be. If you’re looking for a puppy with equal parts curiosity, sweetness, and puppy charm, May might just be your perfect match! Our best guess of breed is a small Shepherd mix based on her looks. 🐾 May is located in Texas. Her adoption fee is $195 local or $395 out of state with transport and includes current shots, microchip and spay. Story
Meet Paris, our sweet 15 yr old lady found roaming the streets filthy and exhausted with nails curled in to her pads. She’s not in terrible shape for how rough she looked. She’s has a slight heart murmur and missing some teeth, which is pretty common for a girl her age. Her kidneys are perfect. She’s a little stiff in the legs with a little loss of muscle mass which also comes with age and her being overweight. Her liver values are elevated and she’s now on a liver support medication. Overall she’s doing well for her age and even has a little bit of sass to her and she’s ready to find her forever home where she can live out the rest of her years! She’s good with other dogs and enjoys wandering around the house for a little bit looking for her next nap spot since she takes about 10 naps a day! Paris is located in Texas. Her adoption fee is $195 local or $395 out of state with transport and includes current shots, microchip, spay and negative Heartworm test. If you are interested in adopting Paris please complete the adoption application at link below. Story
Hamlet has never met a stranger he didn’t immediately decide was wonderful. He walks up to people with this soft, trusting confidence, like the idea of not being loved is completely unfamiliar to him. If you sit down for even a moment, he’s already there—gently climbing into your lap, settling in like he was always meant to be right there, asking for pets with the most gentle, hopeful little energy. And every now and then, he’ll suddenly flop or wiggle in a way that reminds you he’s not just sweet—he’s also a total goofball. He is a four-month-old puppy, still very much a baby, but already showing the kind of temperament people dream about. Hamlet is incredibly people-oriented and affectionate in a way that feels natural and unforced. He doesn’t demand attention—he simply drifts toward it, quietly choosing closeness over everything else. Once he’s near you, he stays there, content just to be included and touched and spoken to softly. And when he gets excited, he’ll do these little silly bursts of energy, like he forgets where his feet are for a second and just turns into pure puppy chaos in the cutest way. Check out how cute he is in his YouTube video now https://youtu.be/GyR--uiRxAk?si=vrkp2wGoi8dXhf-k Hamlet lives in a foster home with six other dogs and fits right in with them. He is social, well-mannered, and enjoys being part of a group. He will happily engage in play when the other dogs get excited, and he moves through the pack with ease. But even in a busy, dog-filled home, his focus consistently returns to people. Other dogs are fun companions, but humans are his safe place and favorite place all at once. He is playful in that classic puppy way—joyful bursts of energy, toys he enjoys carrying around, and happy little spurts of movement through the house or yard. But Hamlet also has a distinctly goofy side that makes him even more endearing. He’ll sometimes bounce at toys a little dramatically, miss them completely, then act like that was absolutely part of the plan. Or he’ll get so excited that he does a wiggly little spin before deciding he definitely needs to come over for pets instead. He’s not just cute—he’s genuinely silly in a way that makes you laugh without even trying. Hamlet is expected to grow into a large, sturdy boy. He already has big paws that hint at the dog he will become, but right now he’s still all softness and puppy awkwardness in the most endearing way. He even has a little scruff under his chin that gives him extra charm, like he’s growing into his own personality right in front of you. More than anything, Hamlet is gentle. He has a calm sweetness to him that makes people naturally relax around him, but that calmness is always paired with his goofy little personality peeking through at the edges. He looks at you like you matter, like being near you is exactly where he wants to be, and then suddenly does something silly that reminds you he’s still just a baby figuring the world out. He would do best in a home that values companionship, connection, and a good sense of humor. Hamlet doesn’t just want to live alongside people—he wants to be part of their everyday life. A home where he can follow you from room to room, settle at your feet, and occasionally make you laugh with his goofy antics will bring out everything that makes him so special. Hamlet is the kind of puppy who quietly becomes your favorite presence in the house. Not loud, not complicated—just steady, loving, a little silly, and always there, choosing you over and over again in the sweetest way. https://adopt.animalsfirst.com/animal/62cc8e128b02916730334440/6a048fbaf805e0e48201a51d Questions? Story
The name alone some how captures his essence perfectly … Spike Bentley. Doesn’t it give a sophisticated adventurer vibe? We think so! He is a pint-sized guy but the confidence is impressive. He is confident in new places, meets new people and dogs with the same polite and welcoming approach. He is alert, curious, and has such a bright, bubbly presence. At an estimated 3 years old and 17 lbs, we suspect Spike is a Chihuahua mix but of course, rescue rules apply, so breed and age are our best guess. Go watch Spike Bentley on YouTube, then come right back to read more about this ears-up sidekick! https://youtu.be/pdeYKKOemFc Let’s get this part out of the way because Chihuauas are a house divided on the topic of being carried. Some welcome it (almost expect it) while others would like to pass entirely, very do-it-myself, and Spike is in Camp B. He is not your accessory type of small dog. Spike prefers freedom of movement and likes to stay busy. Being restrained or held still is not his favorite thing and he will absolutely let you know with his full-body protest wiggle that he would prefer to be back on the ground handling his own business. That said, outside of that boundary, he is wonderfully tolerant and easygoing with people. Spike handled a wide variety of situations like a dog who has seen the world before and knows he likes it just fine. New people? Great. Men? No problem. Kids? Polite and respectful without becoming overexcited or pushy.. New dogs? All are welcome. He moved through every situation with a confident, social ease and recovered immediately from anything unfamiliar. Loud noises, busy environments, obstacles, handling exercises... none of it rattled him much. He spent most of his time trotting around with his head up, chest out, ears perked, and curiosity fully activated. With other dogs, Spike was social, respectful, and confident without being clingy or overly playful. He greeted appropriately, shared affection and toys well, respected boundaries around treats, and generally seemed happiest giving a quick “hello” before moving on with his own agenda. He does not appear to need another dog in the home and may actually prefer a companion relationship over a full-time wrestling buddy situation. He could likely live happily as a solo dog or alongside another calm, socially appropriate dog who respects personal space. Spike’s energy level is refreshing and he will thrive with someone who enjoys walks, outings, little adventures, and giving a smart dog things to do. We all loved just how suited his energy was for how solid-tempered and adaptable he is. Apartment life could suit him just fine thanks to his confidence and ability to handle environmental stressors well, as long as his physical and mental energy needs are met. What really stands out about Spike is how capable he feels. He carries himself like a dog who fully expects to be included in life rather than managed through it. He feels like the perfect match for someone wanting an active little companion to take along for errands, walks, patio hangs, road trips, and daily routines. Think tiny dog with a fully booked social calendar. Spike is ready and waiting to start living life by your side! Apply today to welcome him home! https://adopt.animalsfirst.com/animal/62cc8e128b02916730334440/6a0229bae6abb47b04073856 Questions?
