Good with cats, Needs special attention,
Story
Kai's story is somewhat of a sad one. It's the kind of story that often leaves us scratching our heads, but we don't have time to dwell on what went wrong with Kai's situation. We focus on finding her a better one. We know that there is someone out there who won't think twice about giving this wonderful girl everything she needs. Kai is about 10 years old, she requires blood pressure medication and special food for her kidneys. And, she is blind. Kai is a great lap cat, great with other cats, and even plays with some toys. Her vision problem doesn't seem to bother her at all. All she needs is a home where there's easy access to her food, water, and litterboxes. She shouldn't have to jump on things or do stairs in order to find what she needs. She hasn't been with dogs in her foster home, so we don't know how she is with them. It should be noted that most people with cats and dogs keep the cat items somewhere that the dog can't get to them. It is important that Kai have easy access to those things so it may not work out to put her in a home with dogs, but we would certainly be willing to discuss it with a potential family to see if it could work. Kai's blood pressure medication, Amoldipine, is about $12 for 60 days. Her prescription kidney food, of course, can be pricey, but we know Kai is worth it. This poor girl, who was given up by her owners when her age started catching up with her, deserves to be given everything she needs. If you'd like to meet Kai, or just have some questions about her, please let us know. We'd love to talk to you about her. **All Shelter to Home animals are fully vetted per their age. Not good with cats,
Story
Meet Lovey! Mama Lovey was rescued back in March from a local shelter. She was pregnant at the time, so we wanted to give her a quiet and safe place to have her babies. She had her five beautiful babies in March and she was a great mom. Lovey now deserves a loving home of her own. She is an absolute love bug. She is a talker with a raspy meow. She loves pets, plays like a kitten at times, and can find quiet moments to grab a nap... and is all-around a wonderful cat. We believe her to be a couple of years old. Lovey is also FIV+. We encourage you to take the time to read about FIV on our website (sheltertohome.com under Resources - FIV Facts) if you are not familiar with FIV. It is not a death sentence and not an easily transmitted disease. In fact, most current articles and studies suggest that it truly shouldn't be a deterrent to adopting a pet and providing them a wonderful life. Lovey would prefer to be an only cat, not because she is FIV+, but because sh would prefer to have all your attention for herself. Please contact us at info@sheltertohome.com if you're interested in Lovey. **All Shelter to Home animals are fully vetted per their age. We believe in pediatric spay and neuter. Story
Amelia Rose came to us with a terrible upper respiratory infection that destroyed her left eye. This poor girl also had just about every intestinal parasite a cat can get. For the first month in foster care, she was forced to endure frequent doses of yukky medications. She was very hand shy to begin with, and constantly being grabbed and held for medication has caused her to be very hand shy. She loves to be petted, however if she thinks I'm going to try to grab her, she takes off. She will get on my lap and cuddles with me in bed, but she can't be picked up. I had to sneak up on her to catch her for her spay surgery and she has already forgiven me for that. She will need a patient owner and a very calm home. Crazy dogs running around or young kids being loud and running through the house would terrify her.Amelia is not a hider. When we have company over, she does come out watch what's going on. If I have a friend over to watch movies, Amelia may get on her lap, but if we have several friends over for game night, she just watches from a distance. She really just hates the idea of being held or picked up. Nail trims or giving medication will be next to impossible unless she overcomes her fear of being held. I've only trimmed her nails once and it required getting her to eat a sedative in a treat, waiting for her to go into a dog crate for food and locking her in there. I then called a friend to come over and it took about 5 minutes to be able to catch her with a towel, even though she was crated. My friend then had to hold her down on the sofa, while I searched for her paws inside the towel so I could do her nails. It was quite a process and not something I look forward to doing again.Amelia's best friend is another kitten that's been here for a few months while being treated for an eye issue. She chases and wrestles with the kitten many times during the day. She gets along with everyone from my younger cats to my seniors and is fine with our mellow dogs. I do not adopt my kittens out as an only cat. If you are interested, please email Beagmom1@yahoo.com. Thank you. **All Shelter to Home animals are fully vetted per their age. Story
Dash born February 2021 Hey there. I'm Dash. Contrary to my name, I am not a speedy, crazy, high-energy around all the people cat. I don't really like to zip around the room causing as much trouble and making as much noise as I can. Sure, I like to be in the room where things are going on but I'm more of a people watcher than anything else. For right now, I like having my space and I'm really slow to come around because like I said, I prefer to watch the action instead of being involved in it. I do like interacting with other cats though. I play with my sister Violet at our current residence in the shelter, she likes to pretend she's a superhero and I'm her sidekick. I may not play the biggest part in her adventures, but I do love being with her. I do also like snuggling with some of the other cats that we share a room with. It's nice to get together and sleep next to other warm fur balls like me. My foster mom is working with getting me more out of my shell, what ever that means. I have yet to see a cat with a shell. She says I need to go to a home that has a feline playmate for me and a patient human who is willing to work with me to slowly get me to be comfortable. There is a plus side though, if you are looking for two new housemates, I wouldn't mind going home with you and my sister. She can be my superhero and help me get used to you and our new home together. If you think I would be a good match for you, we should meet. Have your people call my people, I'll watch to make sure it all goes well. **All Shelter to Home animals are fully vetted per their age. We believe in pediatric spay and neuter. Hello, I'm Kenneth. I have a heart as big as a lion's and a curiosity that could rival the greatest explorers. I'm brave, venturing into new territories within the shelter, and smart, quickly learning the routines and the kind faces around me. My sweetness is my most endearing quality; I love to give and receive affection. I'm always eager to engage in a game or simply sit by your side.
