Story
Chelsea is a sweet and affectionate 15-year-old cat. Lately she has been pooping outside the litterbox a few times a week and because I have wall-to-wall carpeting, I am finding it difficult to cope with and I am looking to rehome her.

Story
Hi there! My name is Bandit, but I’m not here to steal anything from you – well, maybe your kind heart! I’m an 8-year-old black and white, green-eyed guy, and I got my name because of my cool black mask. I came from a hoarding situation with 13 cats, so it’s taken me a while to get my bearings in this new world; when I first got to my foster home, I spent most of my time hiding under the bed! Now that I'm in the shelter, I’m enjoying getting to know more people and discovering that they’re not scary at all! I’ve also made friends with my roommate, another shy guy, and we learn from watching each other. Now I’m ready for a home of my own and a constant human companion or two. (And maybe another quiet cat like my roomie?) Steady, low-key people would be my best fit. You might find that the zen lifestyle of a sweet, gentle cat is just what you need! Enjoy my quiet company while you work, watch TV, and have that cup of tea. We can listen together to the soothing sounds of cat music, and you can relax as you brush my coat and give me chin rubs. I’ll respond with head butts, leaning into your hand, and purring. Pretty soon my favorite places will be close to you, lying on a comfy couch or in a plush cat bed. I also love sitting on a cat tree with a view of the outdoors and a sunbeam. I’d love to be in a fur-ever home where my person would give me the space, time, and love I need. Could that be you?

Story
Look into my soft golden eyes and what do you see? A shy orange and white tabby boy named Mikey. I was found as a stray so not much is known about my background. I am looking for a permanent home now and I think the nice people here at AWLMC will help me with that. Don’t let my shyness fool you, my curiosity about everything is helping me come out of my shell, especially my curiosity about toys! In fact, my favorite word is “play” particularly when it involves wand toys. I am not quite two years old and I love chasing, jumping, and moving anywhere to catch anything dangling off of those wand toys. Besides wand toys, I am learning that “hands on” things can be fun too - like eating yummy treats off your fingers, my fur being stroked with feather wands and receiving gentle pets along the side of my body. I am learning to enjoy the human touch. I am told these things take practice and patience. I’ve also made friends with my roommate, another shy guy, and we learn from watching each other. I have all the signs of a good learner: active, energetic, exuberant, smart. Come see me, so that we can see if I can become your lifetime companion, your forever ginger boy.

Story
Hello! I am Pepper, a two-year-old black and white tuxedo girl who is making the difficult transition from my street life of the past 2 years to the better life of a pampered indoor girl. I am learning to trust the humans in my life now but sometimes I still forget. What that means is that if I am taken unaware or startled, I might swat and hiss very convincingly but as I have become more comfortable in my foster home, I am getting more used to things and am finding that I don’t need to behave this way so much. But let me tell you the positive stuff about this new indoor life – and there’s so much to like! I get food 2-3 times a day – and I don’t have to hunt for it! That’s BIG! Litter boxes are great – and someone else cleans it! And play – I did not have time to play before – I had to survive. Now I know about that red laser dot. You should see me scramble down the stairs trying to catch it or go around in circles trying to catch it. My foster mom laughs at my antics. The wand toys are fun too, some with feathers, other with fluffy worms (which I tear up), I have even gone after a mouse, but it wasn’t much of a challenge. It didn’t even try to get away. I like those long, slow head to tail pets too. Head scritches are OK but I like the long slow ones. Mostly I prefer to keep my feet on the floor for petting, but my foster mom has picked me up and put me in her lap where I stayed for a few minutes. I think I will eventually enjoy being in your lap more but remember, I am a work in progress. I am looking for a quiet home with a cat-savvy, patient human who will enjoy watching me become the Queen of the House. Please come in to meet me – and bring my crown!

Story
Meet Ohio, a loving, playful cat looking for her forever home. Born in August 2022, she is full of energy and will delight you with her antics. She loves chasing her feather toys and getting pets, and will fall asleep on your lap. She is curious and affectionate and always tries to be the center of attention. Ohio has seen her sibling and another cat who shared her foster home find their forever homes while she continues to look for a family to call her own. Ohio loves to play with other cats, even if they don’t want to play with her, so it would be ideal for her to have a home with another young, playful cat. She would, however, also do well as an only cat. To adopt you must first complete an adoption application and meet the cat either virtually or in person in its foster home. We do not do same day adoptions so, generally, we can only adopt within the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area.

Story
I’m often overlooked at the shelter, will you take one minute to get to know me? I just need a chance, I feel invisible. My name is Kiko and I am 13 years old, and if you come to my kennel, I will gladly get up right away to come see you. I’ll give gentle headbutts and purr really really loudly because I’m so excited to get attention. I’m a good boy who’s easy going and I always use my litter box. I have it all…then people see that my tummy is chunky and I have a tiny bit of dandruff so they go look at the other cats instead. But, if you would stay with me for a minute and get to know me, you would see that I’m a perfect gentleman, I even have on my best tuxedo! With a healthy diet and a wee bit of exercise, I could be in tip top shape in no time! I’m determined to get fit and with your love, care and affection I know I can slowly get there. In the meantime, I’m extra snuggly at 17lbs, especially in the middle, so come and see all the extra love I have to give.
