Story
Introducing Copper! Affectionate Gentle Playful Initially Shy Personality: Copper is a sweet Dane who may be shy at first, but once he feels safe, his affectionate and silly nature begins to shine. He’s calm, kind, and loves being included in the daily routine. A creature of habit, he thrives in consistency and finds comfort in knowing what to expect. Socialness: Copper gets along well with everyone in his foster home. He’s submissive with other dogs and respectful of their space, often waiting for them to initiate interaction. He hasn’t been around cats, so slow and structured introductions will be needed. He responds well to slow, structured introductions with new people. Due to some resource guarding around toys (which his foster has diligently been working on), older children or those with experience around large dogs would be best. Likes & Dislikes: Loves zoomies and playing with other dogs Enjoys toys, snuggling, and car rides Dislikes raised voices and nail trims Training: Copper is crate trained, housebroken, and does not destroy bedding or toys. He can comfortably be left alone during a typical 8-hour workday. He knows the commands sit, come, down, shake, and leave it. He is leash trained, incredibly smart, eager to please, and responds very well to positive reinforcement. Health: Copper is in great health with no current concerns. He does seem to have a beef sensitivity, so he’s currently on chicken-based food and treats with success. Forever Home Wishlist: A fenced yard is preferred An apartment or apartment-style setting could be fine, as he's quiet and well-mannered A family committed to continuing his progress with toy/food guarding Older children or an adult-only home Another dog companion would be a plus, especially one who matches his gentle energy If you think Copper will be a great addition to your family, please reach out to us by following one of the options below. 1. If you have already completed the adoption or foster application process and are an approved adopter with UMGDR, please contact Copper’s Placement Coordinator at callie@thegreatdanerescue.com to learn more about him. 2. If you are not yet an approved adopter through UMGDR, you must complete our application process before you can be considered to adopt a dog through our rescue. Story
Introducing Maxwell! Energetic Playful Affectionate Extraordinary Hi there! My name is Maxwell, and I’m a fun-loving, adventurous pup with a heart as big as my playful spirit. Life may look and sound a little different for me because of my vision and hearing impairments, but that doesn’t stop me from embracing every moment with curiosity and joy. I’m on the lookout for a special family who will love and support me just as I am—and I promise to give you all my love in return! When it comes to playtime, I’m all in! My favorite activities include: Chasing after balls and tugging on ropes. Chewing on deer antlers (yum!). Exploring the world on walks and taking in all the new smells. Zooming around the backyard with my famous burst of energy—it’s my happy dance! I absolutely adore being close to my people. Whether we’re playing together or just enjoying some quiet time, I thrive on companionship and affection. Being left alone isn’t my favorite, and I might bark to let you know I miss you, so I’d love a home where someone is around most of the time to keep me company. Navigating the world with limited sight and hearing can be a little tricky, but I’ve got it down! Once I’m familiar with my surroundings, I get around just fine. I may see light, dark, and motion, and I can hear some high-pitched noises, but I mostly rely on my other senses—and the love and guidance of my humans—to help me feel safe and confident. Here’s what I’d love in my forever home: A calm, patient family who understands my unique needs. A physical fence to keep me safe as I explore and play. Preferably a midsize to large yard so I have enough room for zoomies! A calm, submissive doggy sibling who can be my buddy and help me feel more secure. If there are kids, I’d do best with older ones (12+) who have a gentle and calm demeanor. An experienced owner, especially someone familiar with caring for dogs with hearing or vision impairments, would be a huge plus! A family who is home more often than not. A work-from-home position would be awesome! Otherwise, I would prefer if my family isn't gone for more than 6 hours at a time. I’ve had a bit of a rough start in life, bouncing between homes before finding my way to foster care. Now, I’m ready for the stability and love of a forever family who will cherish me for the amazing dog that I am. I may need a little extra understanding, but I promise the love and joy I’ll bring to your life will make it all worthwhile. Fun fact about me: My “zoomies” are a pure expression of my happiness, and they’ll never fail to bring a smile to your face. I’m a resilient, loving boy who’s ready to be your loyal companion. Are you the one I’ve been waiting for? Maxwell is ready to embark on a new journey, and he'd love to share it with you. Please complete one of the following steps to make Maxwell a part of your family. 1. If you have already completed the application process and are an approved adopter with UMGDR, please contact Maxwell’s Placement Coordinator at callie@thegreatdanerescue.com to learn more about him. 2. If you are not yet an approved adopter through UMGDR, you must complete our application process before you can be considered to adopt a dog through our rescue. Story
Introducing Luna! Sweetheart Adaptable Courageous Affectionate  Luna is one half of an extraordinary pair of Great Danes who embody courage, kindness, and boundless love. Luna and her brother, Ares, are ready to embark on a new chapter of their lives with you. This lovely lady is a stunning, white Great Dane who exhibits grace and charm that's simply unmatched. Her world is painted in shades of love and determination due to overcoming vision impairments with remarkable finesse due to her hearing and smelling She has proven that strength lies not in what we see, but in the unwavering spirit within. With every step, she demonstrates her determination to explore life to the fullest. Her bond with her brother is something truly special. They continue to find support from each other as they navigate their world safely. Their connection is a testament to the power of love and companionship, and they must be adopted together to ensure that they continue to thrive. They both love to be around their people and soak up the attention. While they aren't that into playing with toys, they do love going for walks and car rides! These two gentle giants can be the perfect addition to your family and can do well in a household with cats and older children. Due to their special needs, a home where they will be the only dogs is necessary. Both dogs are housebroken, crate-trained, and walk well on a leash. Their foster family has also noted they do well during car rides. A physical fence and minimal steps are required due to them having difficulty with hearing and vision. Neither dog has any medical/health concerns, but Ares occasionally requires an ointment for his eye. Are you ready to open your heart and home to this remarkable pair of siblings? If so, please reach out to us by one of the following steps. 1. If you have already completed the application process and are an approved adopter with UMGDR, please contact Ares & Luna’s Placement Coordinator at callie@thegreatdanerescue.com to learn more about them. 2. If you are not yet an approved adopter through UMGDR, you must complete our application process before you can be considered to adopt a dog through our rescue. Please visit https://www.thegreatdanerescue.com/adoption-application to complete an application and submit your $25 application fee to begin the process. This awesome duo is currently located in Presque Isle, WI. Since Luna and Ares need to be adopted together, the combined adoption fee is $486.56. ##1579466##

Story
Introducing Molly! Sweetheart Velcro Dane Initially Shy Couch Potato Personality: Molly is the sweetest little old lady who embodies the true meaning of a Velcro Dane. She is calm and gentle—though she can be a little stubborn at times. With her loving and easygoing nature, she’s the kind of dog who simply wants to be near her person and enjoy the comfort of companionship. Socialness: Molly can be shy and reserved with new people until she feels comfortable, and she does tend to prefer women. She is patient around children and generally ignores little kids. Molly gets along wonderfully with other dogs—both male and female—and has no issues meeting new canine companions. She has not been around cats. Likes & Dislikes Loves being around her people Enjoys lounging on the couch Doesn’t like being kenneled unless it’s on her own terms Training: Molly is crate trained but doesn’t need to be crated. She is housebroken, non-destructive, and does best when given the freedom to relax where she feels comfortable. While she may be a bit set in her ways, she is very easygoing and adapts well once she feels secure. Health: Molly is in good health with no current concerns. Forever Home Wishlist: A calm, loving home where someone is around during the day A family who will appreciate her gentle nature and let her simply “go with the flow” Another dog companion would be fine, but not required Physical fence recommended, but not required Fun Fact: Molly has the sweetest little face that wins hearts everywhere she goes—her foster family says nothing really bothers her, and she’s happy just being part of the pack. Story
NEWLY AVAILABLE Introducing Crow! Playful Happy Curious Energetic Personality: Crow is a very sweet and affectionate Great Dane who is full of puppy energy. Though he’s already a big boy, he is very much still a puppy at heart—curious, goofy, busy, and learning the ropes of life. He loves to play and explore, often carrying toys around or looking for the next fun thing to do. He is still figuring out what counts as a toy, so shoes and household items should be kept out of reach. Crow forms deep attachments to his person and loves being involved in whatever they’re doing. Socialness: Crow may be initially shy of new people and loud or unfamiliar sounds, but with time, reassurance, and positive experiences, he becomes more confident. Having another dog in the home helps him see that people are safe, and he may warm up more quickly when he sees other dogs interacting positively. He has no experience with young children and can be clumsy due to his size and enthusiasm, so any kids in his forever home should be older and dog-savvy. Crow is playful with other dogs but may struggle with dominant males—he does best with friendly female dogs or non-assertive canine companions. He is curious but respectful with cats and shows no aggression. Likes: Toys, playtime, and carrying things around Food, treats, and positive reinforcement Being close to his person Playing with other dogs Sniffing faces and being gently petted Learning new things and being included Dislikes: Being pulled by the collar or physically directed Being kenneled when he knows his people are home Being bored or under-stimulated Training: Crow is crate trained—he eats in his crate, sleeps there at night, and is kenneled when his foster is out of the house. He is not destructive when uncrated but will counter surf and occasionally pick up non-toy items. He is housebroken but still learning to signal consistently when he needs to go out. He knows sit, kennel up, and wait. He is improving on down and drop it. He responds to a spray bottle for redirection when verbal cues fail. Crow will need continued basic obedience training to help him mature into a well-mannered adult Dane. Health: Crow is currently being treated for Giardia and hookworms, but is otherwise in good health. Forever Home Wishlist: A physical fence is recommended to keep him safe while playing A mid-size or larger yard so he can run around and play Needs a family who is gone for no more than 6 hours at a time Another dog in the home is ideal Needs continued training and socialization An apartment is not a good fit for him Any children should be older and dog-savvy Fun Fact: Crow can stretch his long legs so far that he accidentally moves furniture—he has no idea how big he already is! If you think Crow will be a great addition to your family, please reach out to us by following one of the options below. 1. If you have already completed the adoption or foster application process and are an approved adopter with UMGDR, please contact Crow’s Placement Coordinator at michelle@thegreatdanerescue.com to learn more about him. 2.
