Hey there, I am Gordy aka Gordon (when I’m not listening) and Gordito Crunch (when my foster mama is playing with me)! I am a 5 year old Great Dane/Great Pyrenees mix. That just means I’m extra great of course! I have the Great Dane height and body but a Great Pyrenees head with the Pyrenees shedding. I was originally surrendered as a puppy due to having special back legs. I was adopted to a wonderful family but returned back to rescue because of my sensitivity to frequent visitors. I get that from the Great Pyrenees side - I feel the need to protect my home and yard. I love hard and love attention from my humans but don’t enjoy people I don’t know initially when they enter my home. I take my job of protecting the home seriously and need my humans to prove to me that they can control and protect the house so I don’t have to worry about it. I really respect boundaries and expectations that are presented to me by my humans! I graduated a 5 week board and train program in 2023. I have strong obedience skills and am looking for a home who can hold me accountable to those skills. I know how to walk well on leash, the place command, heel, come and all of the other skills I need to be a well mannered boy. I am trained with an eCollar and a prong collar for walking. My future family should be comfortable with those training tools. I really love to play with toys and other dog friends. I’m a total goofball but have shown resource guarding over food with other dogs. I prefer to eat my food and bones in my kennel or in a separate room from other dogs however, as I get older I am much more relaxed. I am also good with cats though have never lived with one. I really love my kennel. I will sleep there at night, when my foster parents are gone or when there are visitors at the house. I can also be left out to free roam at night though I prefer to sleep next to my foster parents bed or in the hallway so I can keep a watchful eye on my humans. Remember how I was surrendered as a puppy due to having special legs? Well, I still have special back legs. I was born with slightly twisted femurs so I walk a bit differently and have arthritis in my back knees. I love to run and play but can be sore after playing all day long so I occasionally take gabapentin to help. I also require daily joint supplements to help my bones stay healthy. I have a pet insurance policy that will be transferred to a potential adopter - they will be expected to continue to keep that in place after adopting me. Foster Mama Here:Gordy is the bestest boy. We fostered him when he was a puppy as well. We do not let him greet new visitors at our house and require him to stay on his bed in a “place” while visitors are here or in his kennel. He does like to meet people slowly and at a good pace. We would walk his adoptive family through the intro process that he is successful with. Once he knows and trusts you he will forever welcome you as a family member of his. Gordy has so much potential and loves so hard. But he will require owners who can set strict boundaries in the home and hold him accountable. His breed and genetics make him want to protect his home and people but if you a set boundaries he is such a great listener. We walk him on a prong collar and he is eCollar trained. His adopters will need to commit to continued use of these training tools and also meeting with his board and train trainer to learn about everything he knows. Gordy is muzzle trained. He is great at the groomer! Gordy loves the snow and playing outside. His favorite is his doggy pool in the summer. We have 4 other dogs in our home and he plays with all of them. Gordy lived with kids in his first home. He was very protective over them so we do not recommend he go to a home with children under the age of 12. He could thrive in the country as he will bark when he sees humans and dogs walking by the home. ##954057##

Hi there, Zeus here!! I’m a 1-year-old Great Dane who just celebrated my first birthday — woot woot! I was surrendered because my family lived in a small apartment, and while apartment living can totally work for Great Danes, I’m a big, energetic, goofy teenage boy and was just a little more than they could handle. Since coming to rescue, I’ve been living on a farm with some other doggos and doing great! I love playing with my friends along the fence line, and I recently got to run some serious zoomies with another Dane. And let me tell you... I play exactly like you’d expect a toddler Great Dane to play: full speed, all limbs, absolutely no awareness of where my body ends. Suddenly everyone understands why apartment life wasn't for me. I’ve been told that I did well at dog parks in my previous home, and I love everyone I meet. However, I do have a history of resource guarding around other dogs, particularly with treats. I have growled and lunged when another dog has approached something I consider valuable. While I’ve otherwise done well with other dogs, this is a behavior my forever family needs to take seriously. Treats, food, chews, and other high-value items will need to be carefully managed around other animals, and my family will need to continue working on this behavior through training. Because I’m a very large dog, the rescue wants to make sure my future family understands this behavior and is prepared to manage it safely. I came into rescue with basically zero training, zero impulse control, and approximately zero manners. That means it’s up to my forever family to continue working with me, giving me structure, and setting me up for success. I’m only one, so I have lots of learning left to do — and lots of potential! Because of my size, energy, and lack of previous training, training classes will be required in my forever home. If classes involve treatos, I have officially agreed to these terms. Introducing Jesse! Goofy Playful Affectionate Social Personality: Jesse is a young, playful Dane/mix with a big personality and an equally big heart! He is both playful and affectionate, and he absolutely loves spending time with his people. Jesse is still very much in his puppy phase, so he has plenty of energy and curiosity, but he is also already showing what a wonderful companion he can be. Socialness: Jesse is very social and loves people. He does not have experience with young children, so he should be supervised around younger kids due to his size and energy. He enjoys playing with other dogs and has a great time with Roo, who is another Upper Midwest Great Dane foster who is available for adoption! Jesse does not have experience with cats, so any introductions to cats would need to be slow and carefully managed. Likes: Playing with other dogs, especially Roo Spending time with his people Cuddling and affection Playing and being active Dislikes: Being asked to go into his crate when he would rather keep playing Training: Jesse is crate trained and housebroken. While he is quiet and non-destructive once he is in his crate, he doesn't always want to go in when it is time, so continued positive crate training will help him become more comfortable with the routine. He can be destructive if left loose while his family is away, so he should continue to be crated when he cannot be supervised. Like many young Danes, Jesse is still learning what is and isn't appropriate to chew. He does occasionally chew on things he shouldn't, but with consistent redirection, supervision, and appropriate chew toys, he should grow out of this puppy phase without issue. Health: He is in good health with no current concerns. Forever Home Wishlist: A home with a physical fence is preferred so Jesse can safely run and play freely. A family that can provide continued puppy training, especially with crate routines and appropriate chewing. Jesse can be left alone for up to approximately 6 hours during the day. He could do well in an apartment setting, although adopters should be aware that he can bark loudly at times. He is approximately 70 pounds at this time, but still has some growing to do. A family that is prepared to supervise Jesse around young children because of his size and energy. Another playful dog would be a great bonus, especially since Jesse loves canine companionship. Jesse can be adopted on his own, or a family looking to add two Danes can consider adopting him and Roo together! Fun Fact: Despite his young age, Jesse has already mastered one of the most important Dane skills: the Dane lean! VERY treat motivated and knows sit down paw and i just taught him roll over yesterday but its a work in progress 😝. Super playful, he will pounce around you and then roll over for belly rubs and absolutely melts for the belly rubs and kisses" I love playing and running with my doggy friends, however, I can lay at your feet very sweetly to beg for your attention. I am kind of like a "reverse" planter as well. I mean, you plant it and i will un-plant it for you :D I won't do it often, just when I want your attention and I am outside alone.
