Story
Hi there! Olly here! I'm a 3.5 year old male Great Dane and my foster dad says I'm such a good boy and the best companion. He's even thought about keeping my but something about his work in the summer being such long hours, he said I deserve someone with more time. Whatever that means.  I was surrendered because my other family said I needed someone with more time too, so I guess I really do deserve someone to make me their number one!!  I'm crate trained, but a gentleman and am good with free roam too!  I'm initially very shy of other dogs if meeting on leash but do much better off leash once I get used to the other dog. Perhaps a calmer dog would be best for me, or a dog to give me a little bit of space when I need it. I enjoy going to the dog parks but don't interact with the other dogs a ton. I've been the only dog in my current foster home and that's been pretty nice, but certainly not required. Oh, my surrendering owners said I'm good with cats too!  I currently live on a lot of acres, and my foster dad said my recall is spectacular and I do really good off leash, though a city might be different, so please keep me leashed. I have completed a board and train, so I really am the best boy! For $150, I think they'll give you a lesson on showing me what I know! The one thing I'm not good at, is delivery drivers and welcoming guests into the home. I have a big bark, but I promise that I warm up quickly, I just need someone not afraid of that bark and to make sure we alll stay safe. Because of this, I'd probably be best in a quieter home otherwise I'm gonna make a lot of noise!  I love couch snuggles like a typical dane, and I play with my foster dad outside a lot and sometimes like to play mouth his arm. I dunno why us danes have the urge to do that but I'm not trying to be mean, I promise.  Anyways, can I come live with you? My foster dad goes back to work at some point so we're on the hunt for my forever home!!  ##1615093##

Story
Hi! I'm Louis. I bet you are already wondering if I'm deaf and vision impaired due to my beautiful white coat. I am - but I don't know that. I'm a 1 year old neutered male. Currently in my foster home, I am living with 3 female Danes and 2 teenage human kids. It's great here - I love playing with the other dogs and the kids are pretty great too. My foster mom and dad are teaching me new things. I'm learning but still have a hard time avoiding that stuff they call human food on the counter. I am house trained and am working on kennel training. My foster mom says I would do well with someone who is home more often than not. I'm not a candidate for someone living in an apartment or townhouse as I make a lot of noise in my kennel. If the humans leave, I have to go to my kennel to make sure I'm safe and don't get into anything i shouldn't. I sleep on a dog bed at night but I would really love to snuggle with you and sleep in your bed. A fenced yard for me would be fantastic too so I stay safe. My foster mom says that if she already didn't have too many dogs she would keep me forever. Come meet me - I know you'll want to take me home. ##1793686##

Story
Howdy, I’m Maple and I am little over 1.5 year Great Dane. I am still in my “puppy” phase as my foster mom would like to call it. I get the zoomies a lot and I like to play with my special needs Great Dane foster bother. I love toys but I can easily chew through the cotton ones. I am hesitant around men and little ones. So a slow greeting is a must! I am crated trained, however I like to be around my human as much as possible and tend to whine when I am crated but I stop after a little bit. I have to be crated when my human is gone because I can’t be trusted since I like to chew on things-- something about this puppy business they say.  I currently sleep on my foster brother dog bed at night and can sleep all night without having issues!  I do tend to counter surf so my foster mom has to keep all the goodies up (I rather she keep them accessible but I guess its for my safety). I am still learning to walk on the leash but I tend to pull when I am excited and run away when there are strangers around. I heard I was getting better though! I am a very good girl that is still working on my manners. I tend to jump when I am very excited and I think the word no, means play. But I can sit, shake, heal, and place because I completed a 4 week board and train! My jumping has gotten a LOT better, still working on the word "no".  I will be a good girl in my furever home, if they are willing to take the time and have patience. I like to chase squirrels and rabbits but also like belly rubs and butt scratches. My back leg looks funny when I am walking and playing but that does not slow me down on bit- they say I need a TPLO surgery so I don't injur myself in the future. You can ask more about this if you're interested in bringing me into your home! ##1719675##

Story
Hi, I'm Cinder! I'm a tall 1.5 year old Great Dane! My foster mom says that I'm a really good puppy. I think she means that I'm really easy going and not always full of the devil for my age. She also tells me all the time that I'm a very good girl. I'm friendly with everybody and I'm always happy. I can be talkative at times but I'm not sassy. I am perfectly potty trained. I sleep on my dog bed but really would prefer to cuddle with my people in bed. I am currently living with 2 special needs female Danes, 2 kiddos 11 & 15, and my foster mom and dad. I have a medical condition called mega esophagus. It's really not too bad and my foster mom is helping me manage it. I take some medication for it, she soaks my kibble in water, feeds me from a raised feeders, and she even makes me treats made from jello because I can't tolerate crunchy treats. I probably won't grow out of this condition but I don't think it will get any worse. I would like a friend to play with in my new home and maybe even a kiddo or two. I like to play fetch, tug of war, and rough and tumble with one of the dogs here. Come meet me and I know you'll just want to take me home! ##1459688##

Marley is a big senior boy who is just looking for a couch to lay on, a yard to play in, and a human or two to love!  He has a lot of dog reactivity so he's not going to be the dog you can walk through your busy neighborhood with ease if there are dogs around, and he'll need to be put away if other dogs make their appearance to your home.  He has some arthritis in legs that is currently being monitored to determine if pain meds are needed.  He loves to zoomie around the yard, and loves extra snuggles on his own time.  Do you have it in your heart to take in an old boy?  ##1574597##

Story
Hey there, I am Gordy aka Gordon (when I’m not listening) and Gordito Crunch (when my foster mama is playing with me)! I am an almost 3 year old Great Dane/Great Pyrenees mix. That just means I’m extra great of course!  I have the Great Dane height and body but a Great Pyrenees head with the Pyrenees shedding.  I was originally surrendered as a puppy due to having special back legs. I was adopted to a wonderful family but recently was surrendered back to rescue because I can be a strong personality. I get that from the Great Pyrenees side.  I love hard and love attention from my humans but don’t enjoy people I don’t know initially. I take my job of guarding the home seriously and need my humans to communicate and prove to me that they can control and protect the house so I don’t have to worry about it.  I recently spent a month with a really nice lady who taught me really fun things like walking well on leash, a strong place command, heel, come and all of the other skills I need to be a well mannered boy.  I really love to play with toys and other dog friends as long as they are not dominant. I’m a total goofball but have shown resource guarding over food with other dogs. I prefer to eat my food and bones in my kennel.  I really love my kennel. I sleep there at night and when my foster parents are gone. I will counter surf if left unattended.  Remember how I was surrendered as a puppy due to having special legs? Well, I still have special back legs. I was born with slightly twisted femurs so I walk a bit differently and have arthritis in my back knees. I love to run and play but can be sore after playing all day long so I occasionally take gabapentin to help. I also require daily joint supplements to help my bones stay healthy.  I currently take anxiety meds daily. I have been on these since I was young to help with my desire to protect the home. These meds cost about $90 for a 90 day supply so any future adopter needs to be able to continue to pay for regular medications.  Foster Mama Here: Gordy is the bestest boy. We fostered him when he was a puppy as well. We do not let him greet visitors at our house and require him to stay on his bed in a “place” while visitors are here. He is also happy to stay in his kennel. He does like to meet people slowly and at a good pace. Once he knows and trusts you he will forever welcome you as a family member of his.  Gordy has so much potential and loves so hard. But he will require owners who can set strict boundaries in the home and hold him accountable. His breed and genetics make him want to protect his home and people but if you a set boundaries he is such a great listener.  We walk him on a prong collar and he is eCollar trained. His adopters will need to commit to continued use of these training tools and also meeting with his board and train trainer to learn about everything he knows.  Gordy loves the snow and playing outside. His favorite is his doggy pool in the summer. We have 4 other dogs in our home and he plays with all of them.  Gordy lived with kids in his first home. He was very protective over them so we do not recommend he go to a home with children under the age of 12. He has been thriving with a farm life and would do best outside of the city. ##954057##

Introducing Ares! Smart Loving Charming Courageous  Ares is one half of an extraordinary pair of Great Danes who embody resilience, charm, and boundless love. Ares and his sister, Luna, are ready to embark on a new chapter of their lives with you. This magnificent, white Great Dane has a heart as big as his towering stature. Despite facing life with limited vision and the absence of sound, he has adjusted to life in his foster home well with additional support from his sister. This gentle giant is patiently waiting to shower his forever family with affection. His disability is no obstacle to his spirit or his potential to be a cherished family member. In fact, it's his unique qualities that make him even more endearing. What truly sets this remarkable Great Dane apart is his incredible bond with his sister. Their connection is nothing short of beautiful. These two have a special language of their own, and they lean on each other for support and companionship. Adopting them together will ensure that they continue to thrive in a loving and nurturing home. These two gentle giants can be the perfect addition to your family and can do well in a household with cats and older children. Both dogs are housebroken, crate-trained, and walk well on a leash. Their foster family has also noted they do well during care rides. A physical fence and minimal steps are required due to them having difficulty with hearing and vision. Neither dog has any medical/health concerns, but Ares occasionally requires an ointment for his eye. Are you ready to open your heart and home to this remarkable pair of siblings? If you have already completed the application process and are an approved adopter with UMGDR, please contact Ares & Luna’s Placement Coordinator at callie@thegreatdanerescue.com to learn more about them. If you are not yet an approved adopter through UMGDR, you must complete our application process before you can be considered to adopt a dog through our rescue. Please visit https://www.thegreatdanerescue.com/adoption-application to complete an application and submit your $25 application fee to begin the process. This awesome duo is currently located in Presque Isle, WI. Since Ares and Luna need to be adopted together, the combined adoption fee is $430.10. ##1579465##

Introducing Thanos, now called Louie Curious Easy-Going Friendly Snuggly Hey there, I'm Louie, and I'm here to tell you all about myself! First off, let's talk about my forever home. It's gotta have a physical fence – I like to explore and investigate, so having a safe space to roam is important to me. Speaking of exploring, I've racked up quite a few frequent flier miles in my time with my original owner. But now, I'm ready to settle down and find my forever family. I'm a good boy, but I can't help being curious. Smells and noises just beg to be investigated! Luckily, I'm housebroken and crate-trained, so I know how to behave when my humans are away. I prefer lounging on my dog bed, but I'll tolerate being crated if I have to. Outgoing and friendly – that's me! I've made friends with all sorts of folks, from shelter staff to animal control officers. And don't even get me started on how well I did at the vet – they couldn't get enough of me! Now, when it comes to other furry friends, I've got limited experience with cats. I did try to chase one once, but I'm learning to be more chill. Slow and structured introductions will be key. I get super excited when meeting new dogs and my curiosity may be a bit overwhelming to smaller dogs. Introductions should be slow and outdoors. As for commands, I'm getting there. I understand a bunch of them, but let's just say I have a mind of my own sometimes. Food definitely helps motivate me to listen, though! Snuggles, daily strolls, chew toys, and my dog bed – those are a few of my favorite things. Baths, vet visits, and car rides? No problem! But I'd rather not wear an e-collar or be crated if I can help it. I've been through some tough times – lost weight, calluses, scars, you name it. But I'm a trooper, and I'm working hard to get healthy again. Neutering can wait until I'm feeling better, too. Kids? I may have had some in my previous home, but I haven't had any experience with them with my foster family. So, slow and structured introductions will be necessary. When it comes down to it, I just want to be with my favorite humans as much as possible. If you’re wearing a jacket, I’ll try to shimmy my way into it to get those snuggles and pets! Oh, and did I mention I get cold easily? A dog hoodie or sweater is right up my alley. So if you're looking for a furry friend who's curious, friendly, and enjoys a good snuggle, look no further – I'm your guy! If you're seeking a loyal and affectionate companion who's always up for an adventure, Louie may be the perfect fit for your home. With his playful spirit and loving disposition, he's ready to embark on life's journey by your side. To provide a loving forever home to this affectionate Great Dane, please reach out to us by following one of the two options below. 1. If you have already completed the adoption or foster application process and are an approved adopter/foster with UMGDR, please contact Louie’s Placement Coordinator at lindsay@thegreatdanerescue.com to learn more about him. 2. Introducing Duke Outdoorsy Playful Affectionate Snuggly Personality: Duke is a loyal and protective dog with boundless energy. He's always on the move and is eager to explore and engage with his environment. Despite his busy nature, Duke is incredibly smart making him a joy to train and interact with. He enjoys entertaining himself with rope toys and squeaky toys. He's also a fan of hugs and pets, often seeking attention from his favorite humans. Duke LOVES spending time outdoors. Home Requirements: While a physical fence is highly recommended, it's not a strict requirement for Duke's forever home. He's crate-trained and housebroken, making him a well-behaved companion indoors. Duke gets nervous around young children. He is more comfortable around older kids such as 12 years of age. His forever home needs to have older or no children. Duke thrives in an environment where he's given plenty of attention and mental stimulation. He has no experience with cats or other small animals, so slow and intentional introductions will be necessary. Training: He has mastered the commands: sit, stay, shake, and more, but could use some additional training with walking nicely on a leash. Duke has a dominant personality that previously included some aggressive behaviors toward other dogs. He has recently completed a training program which has significantly reduced that behavior. His forever family will need to commit to implementing the techniques he has learned. Likes and Dislikes: Duke adores dog toys, doggy daycare, treats, and cozy blankets in his kennel. However, he dislikes having his front legs and paws touched, bath time, and being still for pictures. Health: Duke is in good health with no current concerns at this time. Duke may be a bit smaller in size compared to other Danes, but his heart and personality are larger than life. If you're ready to provide a loving forever home to this affectionate Great Dane, please reach out to us by following one of the two options below. 1. If you have already completed the adoption or foster application process and are an approved adopter/foster with UMGDR, please contact Duke’s Placement Coordinator at callie@thegreatdanerescue.com to learn more about him. 2. Introducing Barney, now called Jax! Affectionate Loving Adventurous Snuggly Jax is a magnificent Great Dane who is filled with joy, love, warmth, and a touch of adventure. He is an enthusiast when it comes to walks. He tends to need a bit of coaching to refine his walking due to him being so excited to take his human on a journey! His preference is to spend time with others, and while he's made great strides in being left alone, his true joy is in the company of his loved ones. He does not have previous experience with cats but has done well with other dogs, including small ones. He has had positive experiences with children aged 7 and older, showcasing his gentle and loving nature. Jax will offer a big bark to people entering his home but can be easily redirected. A physical fence is recommended, but not required for his adoptive home. Jax is a connoisseur of affection and can often be found snuggling his humans and stuffed animals. He also enjoys car rides and baths. His love knows no bounds, as he showers those around him with kisses and finds solace in peaceful slumber. Loud noises and getting his nails trimmed are two dislikes of his. In August of 2023, Jax started taking medication for low thyroid. He has since been taken off of this medication per his vet’s recommendation to see if his endocrine system is back to normal. Jax is a companion who will always brighten your day. If you're ready to embrace the love of this special Great Dane, please contact us by following one of the steps below. 1.
