Story
Meet Charlie Brown! Charlie Brown is a shy but spunky Husky mix who’s still learning that the world is a safe place. He may be a little reserved at first, but once he feels comfortable, his sweet personality shines through. Charlie is very food-motivated. He is currently working on leash walking, potty training, and crate training and is already making great progress.  He is currently the only dog in the home and can be a little nervous when meeting other dogs. Slow, thoughtful introductions will help him feel more confident. Charlie can also experience some separation anxiety and will do best with a patient adopter who can help him feel secure. Once he trusts you, Charlie loves cuddling on the couch with his people and soaking up affection. With time, consistency, and positive reinforcement, Charlie will make a loyal and loving companion. ##2626750##

Story
Hi, I`m Barista, a sweet and friendly pup with a mellow vibe. Here at the shelter, I`ve charmed everyone with my independence and calm demeanor. Volunteers love taking me for walks, and I`ve mastered a few tricks too; I can `sit` and `shake` like a pro! I enjoy my quiet time as much as I love interacting with my human friends. If you`re looking for a loyal companion who can both relax by your side and share in gentle adventures, I`m your guy. Let`s make our days brighter together. Why not come and meet me?* Older kids recommended, if kids in the home

Story
Puppies are a lot of fun, but also a lot of responsibility! Things you should be aware of before adopting a puppy from the Denver Animal Shelter:* Puppies will need regular socialization. The critical time period for socialization is between 8 and 16 weeks, but it is important to continue to socialize your new pup throughout their young life. This means having positive and enjoyable interactions with as many new people, new dogs, and new environments as possible. Appropriate socialization will help puppies grow into healthier and more social adults.* They will not know what is appropriate to chew on, where they should go to the bathroom, and how to behave in all situations. Puppies require a lot of time spent on training, management, and supervision. It is recommended that puppies be crate trained or kept in a puppy-proofed room of the house with appropriate chew toys and enrichment when not actively supervised. The Denver Animal Shelter always recommends positive reinforcement-based training methods. * Puppies in a shelter environment often have unknown parentage. While we make our best guesses on size and breed, we cannot guarantee their adult temperament, behavior, size, or characteristics.

Story
Asher is a very handsome guy with a gentle soul. He can be a little shy when you first meet him, but give him a few minutes (and maybe a treat) and he warms up quickly. Once he’s comfortable, his sweet personality really shines. Asher has a touch of independence and is happy doing his own thing, but he also enjoys being near his people—especially if snacks are involved. Asher would do best in a home with kids 10 and up, where he can build trust at his own pace and then settle in as a loyal, low-drama companion. If you’re looking for a good-looking dog with a thoughtful personality and a soft spot for treats, Asher might be your perfect match! What I Need In a Home:* Kids 10+ mandatory

Story
Meet Poncho, a remarkable 4.5-year-old Husky/Shepherd mix who’s searching for his forever home. Rescued from a high-kill shelter after his previous owner had to move and couldn’t take him along, Poncho is a unique and lovable companion with a heart of gold. Poncho is a good-natured and sweet dog who does well with middle to large dogs and is incredibly intelligent. He prefers to spend most of his time outside and doesn’t seek out cuddles or furniture, but he shows his affection in his own special ways. His high energy levels and need for mental stimulation mean he thrives with proper exercise and engaging activities. Ideal for someone who works from home, Poncho doesn’t like to be alone and may struggle with separation, especially at first. He can be a bit vocal, giving you an earful as huskies are known to do, but his charming personality and loving nature make him an exceptional companion. Poncho is a special dog who will bring joy and loyalty to the right home. If you’re looking for a unique and devoted friend who’s ready to become a cherished part of your life, Poncho is the one for you.

Story
Simba has spent too long waiting for his forever family. 💔 This strong and spirited Akita-Husky mix is full of energy, loves his toys, and is happiest on long walks or playing with his human. He’s sweet, loyal, and ready for the right home. If you’re looking for a dog with personality and heart, Simba is waiting to meet you! 🐕 Adopt Simba: https://form.jotform.com/221926016430144 Full profile: Simba is a 6-8-year-old Akita-Husky mix with the personality of an Akita and the heart of a lion. He’s playful, sweet, and full of energy but needs a confident and strong adopter who understands his needs. 💪 Strength & Training: Simba is powerful and can pull when excited, so he needs someone physically capable of managing his strength. He’s learning commands like sit, down, paw, and “potty” and thrives with structure. A harness might help with his pulling. 🐾 Energy & Personality: Simba is not always a couch potato! He loves long walks (2+ miles is no problem), playing with his toys, and getting plenty of attention. He’s affectionate and cuddly but always ready for adventure. 🏡 Home Needs: Simba would do best in a home without small children due to his strength and energy. He’s good with other dogs, especially more timid ones, but does best with boundaries around toys and space. He’s also quite the counter-surfer, so keeping things out of reach is key! 🐕 Health: Simba has a thyroid condition that is managed with treatment, giving him renewed energy and playfulness. Simba has had a lot of love and care from his foster, but he’s ready to find his forever home. If you’re looking for a strong, loyal, and playful companion, Simba could be your perfect match. 💙 Ready to meet Simba? Apply to adopt him and give this big-hearted boy the home he deserves. 📌 Share to help Simba find his forever home Currently being cared in Southern California, but can be transported up to northern states, such as Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, and anywhere within the US continental, if a great suitable family is willing to adopt him.

Story
The Griswold family- Mum Ellen, sister Audrey, and brother Russell, showed up on a man’s land in Tehuacana, not a safe environment, and so only Audrey & Russ had survived of the litter. Luckily they were taken to safety at a small, rural shelter in Wortham, Texas.  Unfortunately Audrey, and all the animals at the shelter, have little prospects as the shelter does little to no adoptions. There is a small group of individuals in Wortham that work tirelessly to network (and vet, on a very limited budget) these animals to foster-based rescues in and out of Texas that are willing to consider them. Red Fern was contacted by one of these volunteers who, together with her high school daughter, go to the holding facility every day to walk the dogs, socialize them, take them to the vet, and just spend quality time with them. Audrey is very unique looking mixed breed- her Mum is a Chow (pictured last). She is quite shy and will need a patient adopter to gain her trust, but we are working on it. She is happy and plays, but doesn't like to be picked up just yet, she freezes when you do. She would do best with another dog as she's comfortable with other dogs and seeing another dog trust and interacting with their adopter will help her build trust.  She is currently up to date on all her vaccines and will be spayed soon. Audrey has made the journey from Wortham, Texas, to Colorado and is being fostered in Denver, available to meet! Red Fern Animal Rescue offers a two week foster to adopt trial in your home before finalizing the adoption to ensure the animal is the right fit for you, everyone in the home, human & animal, and vice versa. Red Fern Animal Rescue is a 501(c)(3) non-profit foster-based animal rescue in Denver that saves animals from abandonment and neglect in South Texas for new lives in Colorado. We primarily rescue dogs off the streets and from kill shelters in San Antonio. ##2602328##
