Story
Hi, my name is Drogo! I am an 8-year-old rescue who loves to play fetch. I am a gentle giant, but am quite clumsy, so would not do well in a house with littles. They may accidentally get stepped on! I am house trained but, due to my background, do not like kennels so will need to go to a family who is okay letting me sleep/be home alone without one. I do not have any behavioral issues but can be quite timid, especially with men and new people. I would do best with a family who is active, has a backyard, and doesn't mind me loving you from afar (I don't particularly enjoy cuddling). My mom would also prefer to do a meet before adopting to make sure we are a good match. I can't wait to meet you!

Story
We show our dogs by appointment only. If you are interested in fostering or adoption from us, please fill lout our online application at kcpaws.petfinder.com. Whiskey's adoption fee will be $150. She must go to a home with at least one other dog.  Whiskey lived on a rural farm in Oklahoma as a completely feral dog. When she arrived she had no idea what it meant to be touched by a human. She had never been on a leash, never even eaten from a bowl. She was terrified of everything around her and did not know what it meant to trust anyone. For weeks, our staff would sit in her run just to get her used to human company, she was to scared to take treats from us and would wait to eat until the night time when everyone was gone. We slowly began to introduce her to other dogs, which really helped her start to come out of her shell just enough to go outside and back in on her own. Whiskey’s rehabilitation has been nearly 4 years in the making. Slowly, she finally started to bond with a particular staff member. She enjoys quiet time and gentle pets and brushing. Whiskey still is not used to being on a leash. This will continue to take a lot of patience.  Whiskey is now in a wonderful foster home and has made a lot of improvement and is beginning to trust people. Her foster mom has been working on getting her used to leashes, she doesn't love it but is becoming more tolerant. She will likely never be a dog that enjoys going for walks but the goal is to have her be able to safely walk to and from the car for vet appointments and such. Because of this, she will definitely need a secure fenced in yard in her new home.  Whiskey has another dog in her foster home and they get along well, she's not really much of a player but she co-exists with another dog just fine. We are requiring that she go to a home with another dog she is much more comfortable with other canines around to show her everything is okay. She often likes to spend time just laying in her bed. She is a den dog who likes to have a safe space.  Whiskey is food motivated and will warm up to new things with the help of her favorite treats. She squeals with joy at new foods, and especially loves a little bit of ice cream. Overall, Whiskey has had a long journey to learning how to be a house pet, and she is still learning everyday. She is a quiet, shy girl who has never barked or growled in almost two years in her foster home. We're hoping to find Whiskey a family that will give her lots of time, love, and TLC.July 24, 2024, 12:33 pm

We are a matched based adoption agency, if you see a dog in our program in which you are interested in adopting, please fill out our online application at kcpaws.org and one of our adoptions counselors will be in touch once your application has been screened. Please note that we do require dogs to meet all members of the family including existing pets in the home before finalizing during your in home adoption. Goldfish is 1.5 years old, 45 pounds, spayed, up to date on all vetting, and microchipped. Her adoption fee is $175. Meet Goldfish! This lovable girl came to PAWS after giving birth in a rural shelter. She raised her babies and now she's ready to find a home of her own! Goldfish does well with other dogs and plays with her best friend Mack every day! She is very active and would love a home that will take her for long walks, play fetch, and she would even be a good candidate for doggy daycare! Goldfish does have a few things to learn about being a house dog, but she is excited and ready to embark on her journey of being the best family pet she can be!  July 24, 2024, 12:33 pm
