Please visit our web site at https://tarasdream.org/adopt to fill out an adoption application for this pet and for more info about our adoption process.   Meet Roxy!  Roxy is one unique girl who’s had a rough go being in our boarding facility for several years now, which is never good.  That said, her personality is still that of a smiley happy dog, who loves to go on walks with our volunteers.  Roxy was recently fostered in a home for the holidays where she did very well, having no accidents and behaving like an angel!  Roxy can be a little nervous and unsure of men, which just means men should give her time to familiarize with them, and respect her by moving slowly, and not acting like an idiot or aggressive (I’m a guy btw, I can vouch we are idiots at times).  Roxy needs someone patient, but once she connects with you, she will be your best friend and love you in the most special way.  If you think you are that unique opportunity for Roxy, she’s been waiting!    Approximate Birthdate:  Oct 2017 Adoption Fee: Roxy's adoption fee has been sponsored by the Kansas City Crime Lab! TARA's adoption fee includes: spay/neuter, age appropriate vaccinations, microchip, heartworm test (if age appropriate), heartworm and flea prevention, and deworming.  TARA's pets are all eligible for a TWO WEEK TRIAL. Due to the fact that many of our dogs come from the local city shelters, we do not know the background of many of them and therefore cannot always guarantee age or breed.  Size is subjective but we use the following guidelines: Small 1-20 pounds, Med 20-50 pounds, Large 50-80 pounds, Extra Large over 80 pounds.   For more information please fill out an application.     CONTACT INFO The Animal Rescue Alliance (TARA) Web site: tarasdream.org Adoption Information & Applications: https://tarasdream.org/adopt Upcoming Adoption Events: https://tarasdream.org/events Email: email@tarasdream.org October 10, 2024, 4:13 pm

Story
Atwood is a playful three-year-old pooch who would love a quiet home to call his own. He spent some time in a noisy shelter environment and is so over that noisy chaos! All those dogs yap yap yapping all the time and all he wanted was a nap, darn it. He loves to pose for pictures and play with his toys, especially his stuffies. He would also like some peanut butter, by the way. Atwood prefers a peaceful existence in an abode with no kids and no other pets, please. Most of all, though, Atwood wants to be with people who love him. He's such a lovely, sweet boy. Call or text The Pet Connection at 913-671-7387 for more info. Atwood is in the KC metro, but transport is available to the right home, foster or permanent. #thepetconnection

Please visit our web site at https://tarasdream.org/adopt to fill out an adoption application for this pet and for more info about our adoption process.  Meet Sabrina!  Sabrina is a pittie mix, and she’s a firecracker of energy who would make for a sweet companion for an active household.  She walks well on a leash, and she does simmer down once she gets some energy out. Her energy level is in part because she’s in a boarding facility where her time to play is always limited, so we believe she would settle into a home environment very nicely. Sabrina’s good with most other dogs but would would need some time to get used to sharing her home with another pet as she hasn't had to since being in our program. She does have a tendency to chase cats, so her ideal feline friend would be an older, more laid back cat.  She’s friendly with everyone, but as she can be so excited at times, she would be best suited for a home without very small children that she might knock over with kisses!  Sabrina wants to remind you that it’s not easy to find a home when you’re a black dog, and she would love an opportunity to meet you and melt your heart.        Approximate Birthdate:  July 2022 Adoption Fee:  My adoption fee is sponsored by a generous volunteer! Story
Boy howdy, I'm a looker! My name is Beau and I'll make YOU the talk of the town! My nubbin' of a tail has its own independent charms, to be sure, wagging furiously every single time I see your face. But I'm not just pretty, I'm also a deep thinker (see picture for me looking thoughtful) and very smart. For example, I already know how to "sit," "lay down," and "stay." Heck, I'm even housetrained. I also reserve my barks to notify you when you should know someone is outside--smart, eh? I would be a wonderful companion to your dog! I lived with a boxer mix and we were best friends. I'm super sad to leave him, but I think I could be friends with almost any other dog. We'd just need to interview each other to make sure we'd be cool as roomies. One thing I value in a dog is the ability to play chase. Bonus points if a dog can play chase with a toy in their mouth. While I'm still a young guy, only about two years old, I already know how to chill when I'm inside the house. Give me a Nylabone and I will happily lay at your feet for hours. I appreciate sleeping in, too, so no need to get up early on my account. Perhaps my most endearing trait is my love for my people. Cuddles, kisses, ear scratches, pets, and just plain ol' being near you are my favorite activities. Did I do a good job? Do you think we might be buddies? Yes? Pick up that phone and call or text The Pet Connection at 913-671-7387 and ask about me, Beau! I'm in the Kansas City metro, but I love going for rides in the car (I call shotgun!) and my friends say they'll drive me to the right home. So go ahead and ask about me!

Story
Rocky is a gentle soul who starts his morning with some stretches, downward dog yoga poses, and meditation (aka naps in the sun). He's a big chap at about 80 pounds, but don't worry, at just about five years old, Rocky won't be growing more! We recently learned that Rocky loooooooves to swim! Like, really loves it and could possibly be a water sports dog, too. He dives for the ball and really commits by putting his head and body under the water! This pooch has heart *and* skills, we're happy to report. He's also super cute -- bonus! You couldn't ask for a better pooch than this guy. He's intelligent, affectionate, loving, house-trained, and doesn’t chew on anything (except for toys and Benebone wishbones). Rocky is good with adults and children of all ages -- he grew up with babies and toddlers and loves spending time with a 2.5-year-old toddler now, playing ball with him for hours. Do you have a dog in need of a canine companion? Fantastic! Rocky adores the dogs in his foster home. He carefully picks out toys to share with them and then they enjoy a good game of chase in the yard. He would also do great as the only pooch in his home if he gets plenty of attention from the humans. Rocky is not so much a cat guy, though. Rocky already knows sit, stay, come, touch, and shake. He loves earning treats by doing these tricks and could be easily trained to learn even more. Rocky takes treats so, so gently from your hand, too. (He's such a good boy!) Some of Rocky's favorite things are getting pets, riding in the car, being outdoors, playing with toys, and going on walks. While Rocky loves cuddling in bed with his humans, he patiently waits to be invited up, because he's polite like that. What Rocky would love to do most of all, though, is find his forever home. Please call or text The Pet Connection at 913-671-7387 if you're The One. If not, please share Rocky's information with everyone you know so you can visit Rocky at their house when he gets adopted. #thepetconnection

Story
Moss is a great boy with a ton of personality! Let's chat about his personal stats, first. Handsome here is about eight years old and 65 pounds--perfection! Moss can be shy when meeting new people, but he's a whole different dog when he has another dog to play with. The look on his face is pure joy. Moss loves to play year-round, too! His favorite toys have squeakers (yay!), and he'll play fetch with you and chase with his dog buddy. When it's cold outside, Moss likes to cuddle up and rest his head on your lap. During the summers, though, he can be found rolling in the grass and sunbathing. No matter the season, he appreciates butt scritches and belly rubs. This boy is incredibly smart. He knows how to sit, stay, come, look at me, touch (your hand or a post-it placed somewhere), shake, lay down, and find it). Moss is very treat motivated, so teaching him new things will be a breeze. He likes to be challenged with puzzles where food is the reward. Young kids make Moss nervous, so he'd prefer an adult-only home if you don't mind. Please call or text The Pet Connection at 913-671-7387 about making Moss part of your family. He's in the KC metro, but transport is available to the right home.

Story
Micah is a lab/shar-pei mix boy in the cutest chocolatey color! He is just a baby, under 1-year old! Micah has been confused and reserved since coming to the big, busy shelter. We are still learning more about him, but we do know that he is nervous around little kids, so he will need a home with adults only. Micah was mostly potty trained and would likely do well with a consistent routine. He previously lived with other dogs and would want to meet any potential canine siblings to ensure the best match! If you are interested in Micah, come meet him at KCPP Main Campus!

Story
Barley is a senior guy looking for a home where he can enjoy his golden years. He came in as a stray, so we don't know his history. But while he is living in a foster home, we are learning a lot:"This 12 year old, doll of a boy is house broken, friendly to people and my senior resident dog, likes easy walks around the neighborhood, chases squirrels in the back yard, and keeps his foster room clean. I leave him free-roam in that space (which is also my sewing room) and he doesn't get into anything! Let me know if anyone is looking for an easy senior that isn't a pitbull. Cat sociability is unknown. He has been social in dog play groups and will need to meet any future fur siblings before going home.He is living in a foster home right now. If you would like to learn more about him or want to meet him please email foster@kcpetproject.org

Story
We show our dogs by appointment only. If you are interested in fostering or adoption from us, please fill lout our online application at kcpaws.org. Whiskey's adoption fee will be $150. She must go to a home with at least one other dog.  Whiskey lived on a rural farm in Oklahoma as a completely feral dog. When she arrived she had no idea what it meant to be touched by a human. She had never been on a leash, never even eaten from a bowl. She was terrified of everything around her and did not know what it meant to trust anyone. For weeks, our staff would sit in her run just to get her used to human company, she was to scared to take treats from us and would wait to eat until the night time when everyone was gone. We slowly began to introduce her to other dogs, which really helped her start to come out of her shell just enough to go outside and back in on her own. Whiskey’s rehabilitation has been nearly 4 years in the making. Slowly, she finally started to bond with a particular staff member. She enjoys quiet time and gentle pets and brushing. Whiskey is now in a wonderful foster home and has made a lot of improvement and is beginning to trust people. Her foster mom has been working on getting her used to leashes, and she now goes for walks EVERY NIGHT! This is a huge improvement, and we are so proud of her. Whiskey has another dog in her foster home and they get along well, she's not really much of a player but she co-exists with another dog just fine. We are requiring that she go to a home with another dog since she is much more comfortable with other canines around to show her everything is okay. She often likes to spend time just laying in her bed. She is a den dog who likes to have a safe space.  Whiskey is food motivated and will warm up to new things with the help of her favorite treats. She squeals with joy at new foods, and especially loves a little bit of ice cream. Overall, Whiskey has had a long journey to learning how to be a house pet, and she is still learning everyday. She is a quiet, shy girl who has never barked or growled in almost two years in her foster home. We're hoping to find Whiskey a family that will give her lots of time, love, and TLC.October 10, 2024, 7:40 am

Please note that we do require dogs to meet all members of the family including existing pets in the home before finalizing during your in home adoption. SEEKING FOSTER HOME Meet Lycan, the best older gentleman with the kindest soul. Lycan is about 7 years old and he has had a pretty rough go at life, although you wouldn't know it when you meet him. Lycan was kept on a chain for his whole life until we caught wind of his situation and were able to take him into our program. When we arrived to take him off his chain, he was starved and dehydrated beyond belief, but happy as all get out to see us walking up. Not a growl to be heard, Lycan knew we were there to save him. After 2 of our staff members cut off his rusted and filthy collar, it was on to a vet visit for vaccines, a 5 hour car ride, and thus began our journey of nursing Lycan back to health. Lycan is currently on a meal plan to get back up to a healthy weight so he can be safely neutered and prepped for his forever home. While we work on this process, we are desperately seeking a foster home, so Lycan can learn what it's like to be a true pet and not an object to be left outside. If you can find it in your heart to give this guy the opportunity to be an inside dog for the first time in 7 years, please fill out our online application at kcpaws.org. Lycan does need to be an only pet at this time, and needs a home free of young children. October 10, 2024, 7:40 am
