Our Team Says: "Ivory was rescued from a backyard breeding situation with 7 other dogs. All of them being seniors, having lived a life of neglect. We've gotten them back on track :) Ivory is on the shyer side and would do best in a calm area with a patient person. After having lived a life of chaos and neglect it takes time to learn how to be confident and happy. She's extremely sweet and would do well in a home with another small dog. Would be best in an adult only home, kids are scary to her. We've spent a lof of time and resources to ensure that Ivory is in good shape medically after living a life of neglect. She has had a dental, hernia repair, full bloodwork, fecal testing and few vet trips to addres an upset stomach. She is currently on a prescription food and does well on it - would suggest she stays on it :)"
Thier Foster Parent Says: "Ivory is the sweetest cuddle bug with a calm disposition and heart-melting beautiful face. She is curious and smart, always listening intently and tilting her head to follow along. What a gentle girl- think toy snuggler not destroyer. She causes zero trouble, and is an absolute angel. Given her past, she takes her time to inspect, then warms up relatively quickly to new people but remains cautious around other dogs who come close. She keeps to herself on walks for the time being, but with patience and consistency should open up. Sounds can be scary for her so she will do best in a low-key environment. Ivory loves comfort, her favorite place being on the bed! While she is introverted/shy, she is a fur baby who wholeheartedly loves love. She will be your best friend, loyal companion, lovingly stay by your side, but takes her time and needs your patience to get there. Ivory does well on her outdoor walks, and is also pad trained to go inside when needed. She rarely ever has an accident. She is low-key and no drama. While not particularly motivated by treats, she is eager to please regardless and very obedient. She is the goodest girl with the kindest heart, most gentle disposition and a soul of gold. She is impossible not to love, and anyone lucky enough to bring her into their home will easily slip into love."
Level of dog ownership experience needed:FLEXIBLE: We predict this dog will be low on the challenge scale with regard to exercise and mental stimulation requirements, but seniors tend to need a lot of help and understanding when it comes to lifestyle and veterinary issues. Seniors usually need quiet, calm environments and routines and do not do well with a lot of bustle, change, and rambunctious movement (kids and young playful dogs, for instance). This dog’s adopter will need to be prepared for senior health challenges, which usually come with expensive veterinary bills and time in vet offices. Senior care can also take an emotional toll on their humans. Adopting a mature pup is a wonderful thing to do, but it can also be difficult.
Energy levelLOWER: Pretty chill indoors and won’t demand endless amounts of stimulation and exercise but still needs a few short walks a day (10-30 min each) for potty breaks and to stretch their legs
Good in the city: Adjusting to city Potty training: does most of her stuff outdoors. doing a good job learning. Might have a rare accident. Reaction to Stangers: more of a wallflower, takes time to warm up to new people Reaction Kids: best in an adult only home Social behavior with other dogs: okay to live with another small dog, is causious of dogs on the street Mouth training: never chewed anything other than treats. Very well behaved.Separation anxiety: almost none. She looks for you for a bit, never barks. Sniffs around the house . Then start naps.Leash: goodCuddle: likes to cuddle very nice girl.Jumping on people: nope, keeps all 4 on the floorCrate training: no we don't use a crate
Medical Status:We've spent a lof of time and resources to ensure that Ivory is in good shape after living a life of neglect. She has had a dental, hernia repair, full bloodwork, fecal testing and few vet trips to addres an upset stomach. She is currently on a prescription food and does well on it - would suggest she stays on it :) Healthy as far as we know. Up to date on their DHPP, Bordetella, and Rabies vaccines; heartworm tested if coming from the South or Puerto Rico; spayed/neutered; microchipped; treated with dewormer upon intake. Adopters will need to be ready for senior care – at a minimum, that will be annual checkups including senior bloodwork and a dental post adoption (most senior rescues need one).
How this dog ended up with Social Tees:Most of our dogs come via partner groups who help us save them from shelters where they are at risk of euthanasia in Tennessee, Los Angeles and Puerto Rico. There are very few spay/neuter resources there and many more animals in those areas than there are people to adopt them. Rescue groups like ours bring them to the northeast where the desire for pets like these allows us to save their lives.
PLEASE NOTE: We cannot guarantee any breed mix, exact age, or full grown size (if the dog is under a year old). We do our best with very educated guesses though!
This animal is not at the Social Tees office, all are in foster homes.
