Story
Theodore was born June 6th, 2021 as the runt of the litter. I have had him since he was born. His mom is a Maltese dachshund mix and his dad a Maltese yorkie mix. Theodore is very very friendly. He has never bitten anybody in his life but he loves to nibble and play with anyone big or small. He has a lot of energy and requires daily stimulation and cuddles. He can stay in a gate if need be for short periods of time although he does not like it. Especially if there are guests in the house because he wants to play and be involved. He knows a few basic command like sit, leave it, spin. He answers to Theo, Theodore and Bear. He is overall a lovely companion and a very special boy. He just needs a lot of attention, not for a family that is always gone.

**Important Adoption Information All of our dogs are currently living in private shelters or foster homes in South Korea. Once an adoption is approved, dogs will travel to the United States through legal and approved international transport procedures. Video calls are available prior to adoption, and adopters can communicate with our rescue team in real time through our official organization and app-based messaging channels throughout the process. ----------- • Rescue Story: Meet Tonki👋 In April 2025, a group of small dogs—believed to be victims of an illegal breeding operation—were found abandoned together on the streets of South Korea. Tonki was one of them. Now, he’s ready to leave his difficult past behind and begin a new chapter as a beloved member of a loving family. Having learned how to live happily with humans in his foster home, Tonki is patiently waiting for his forever home—where he’ll be cherished, protected, and loved the way he truly deserves. • Personality: Sweet, Friendly, Bright Tonki is a lovable, easygoing pup with a bright, happy energy. He’s incredibly affectionate and loves showing his humans just how much love he has to give! While he may need a little extra time to warm up to adult men, once he does, he becomes a loyal and devoted furry companion. • Affinity with - Dogs: Wonderful with other dogs! He’d do great as an only dog or as a second dog. - Cats: Not tested - Adults/Kids: Good with people, including kids / Needs a bit more time to warm up to adult men. • House Training: Fully housebroken - using pee pads indoors and going potty outside. • Walking Manners: Super gentle on leash and loves going for walks! • Bathing/Brushing: Tolerates both well. • Separation Anxiety: May howl briefly when first left alone, but once he settled, he relaxes and rests peacefully by himself. • Barks/Howls: Occasional barking when a male family member approaches suddenly. • Car Rides: Comfortable and calm • Appetite/Food Allergies: Big eater! / No food allergies found so far. • Likes/Dislikes: Likes to play with toys that make noise. / Not a fan of being lifted suddenly by a male family member • Shedding level (1~10): 1-2 • Health: Currently a healthy pup! He tested positive for heartworm when rescued, completed treatment successfully, and tested negative in Dec 2025. ----------- **Adoption Fee Information The adoption fee already includes all major expenses, such as: International transportation, Customs and export documentation, Medical care (spay surgery, vaccinations, health certificate, deworming, etc.) For this reason, we kindly ask that you refrain from requesting a breakdown or negotiation of the adoption fee. Your support directly helps us continue rescuing and caring for dogs in need, and we sincerely appreciate your understanding.

Story
Cloud - 6 years, 10lbs, Maltese, Neutered This dog is eligible to join our foster-to-adopt program. Please email fostertoadopt@socialteesnyc.org with the animal’s name in the subject line if you are interested! Want to straight up adopt? Submit an adoption application at socialteesnyc.org Level of dog ownership experience needed:BEGINNER: This means we predict this dog will be low on the challenge scale due to its breed/age combo. Potentially a good fit for someone who has relevant dog care experience (fostering, dog sitting) and is looking to adopt their first pup.  Energy levelLOWER: Pretty chill indoors and won’t demand endless amounts of stimulation and exercise. But still needs a solid adventure walk (30 to 60 minutes) in addition to potty breaks. Okay in the city?We don’t know yet. Most adult dogs do well in the city after they’ve had time to adjust to a new environment, but some never adapt and need homes in the burbs.  Potty trained?Probably! Adults usually are, but all will have transitional accidents for the first week or so. A consistent walking route and schedule plus finding spots with grass or dirt can help. Social with other dogs?Yes, but we don’t know to what degree yet. Some like to wrestle with every passing pup, others can coexist well but prefer to keep to themselves. We’ll learn more soon. Social with cats? Not sure yet! Some breed mixes that are generally NOT great matches for homes with cats include large hounds, huskies, and shepherds.  Comfortable with children?  (ALWAYS requires adult supervision)We’re not sure yet, but we try to err on the side of caution. Respectful kids ages 8 and up are probably a safe bet. Children must always be monitored and taught to interact with dogs of any age respectfully.  Medical statusHealthy as far as we know. Up to date on their DHPP, Bordetella, and Rabies vaccines; heartworm tested if coming from the South or Puerto Rico ; spayed/neutered; microchipped; treated with dewormer upon intake How this dog ended up with Social Tees:Most of our dogs come via partner groups who help us save them from shelters where they are at risk of euthanasia in Tennessee, Los Angeles and Puerto Rico. There are very few spay/neuter resources there and many more animals in those areas than there are people to adopt them. Rescue groups like ours bring them to the northeast where the desire for pets like these allows us to save their lives.  PLEASE NOTE: We cannot guarantee any breed mix, exact age, or full grown size (if the dog is under a year old). We do our best with very educated guesses though!  This animal is not at the Social Tees office, all are in foster homes. Story
Sugar - 9 years, 10lbs, Maltese, Spayed Our Team Says: Sugar was rescued from a backyard breeding situation with 7 other dogs. All of them being seniors, having lived a life of neglect. We've gotten them back on track :) Sugar is super sweet. And ready for a home that will be kind and patient to her - her confidence is growing :)  Thier Foster Parent Says: "This little 9 pound Maltipoo lives up to her name - she is a loveable sweetheart! Cuddly, spirited, and adorable, Sugar loves being a couch potato (she is a true homebody) but is also excited to spend time with her favorite humans, short walks (5 to 15 minutes), and treats. She is adjusting to a walking/potty schedule (4 times a day) but may require additional training in a new home. She gets a little anxious when left home alone (some whining but she never barks). She is growing more and more confident every day! Sugar would thrive in a home with homebodies and other pets." Level of dog ownership experience needed:FLEXIBLE – We predict this dog will be low on the challenge scale with regard to exercise and mental stimulation requirements, but seniors tend to need a lot of help and understanding when it comes to lifestyle and veterinary issues. Seniors usually need quiet, calm environments and routines and do not do well with a lot of bustle, change, and rambunctious movement (kids and young playful dogs, for instance). This dog’s adopter will need to be prepared for senior health challenges, which means frequent vet visits and very expensive veterinary bills. (An annual senior blood panel alone costs around $500 in NYC.) Senior care can also take an emotional toll on their humans. Adopting a mature pup is a wonderful thing to do, but it can also be difficult.  Energy level:LOWER – Pretty chill indoors and won’t demand endless amounts of stimulation and exercise but still needs a few short walks a day (10-30 min each) for potty breaks and to stretch their legsTOLERANCE TO CITYCity pup – Seems unfazed by the sights and sounds, may as well have been born here.POTTY TRAININGYes – Few or no accidents COMFORT LEVEL WITH STRANGERS In between bean – Fine with meeting new people but not particularly interested, kind of shy in busy social situations like a gathering or a packed day in the park. BEHAVIOR WITH CHILDREN (always requires adult supervision)Yes for most ages – would be okay with respectful kids SOCIAL BEHAVIOR WITH OTHER DOGSYes – Good with most other dogs (sizes, breeds, etc.) as far as we know and enjoys socializing with other canines - she is mostly chill/almost uninterested with other animalsRESPECTFUL BEHAVIOR WITH OTHER ANIMALS (cats, small pets, etc.)Yes – Seems to get along with cats etc., either tries to play with them or is mostly uninterested - she is mostly chill/almost uninterested with other animals. Currently lives with a cat. MOUTHY BEHAVIORPast this stage– Little to no interest in chewing on stuff or putting things in their mouth that aren’t food. Doesn’t try to chew on hands, feet, etc. during playtimeSEPARATION ANXIETY (Please leave your foster dog home alone every day for at least 20 minutes.)Adjusting – Might cry for a few minutes when you first leave the house but settles pretty quickly and has no problem being left alone otherwise. Whines for a few minutes but nothing more than that. LEASH MANNERSGetting the hang of it – Probably hasn’t been on a leash much in their life but figuring it out. Might be a mild puller but responds to correction. CUDDLE BUG LEVEL Medium – Likes to snuggle when he's in the mood but often stays in his own bed CRATE TRAININGNot at all – Don’t even have one, I’ve puppy proofed and we free range.  Medical status:Healthy for their age as far as we know. Up to date on their DHPP, Bordetella, and Rabies vaccines; heartworm tested if coming from Tennessee or Puerto Rico; spayed/neutered; microchipped; treated with dewormer upon intake. Adopters will need to be ready for senior care – at a minimum, that will be annual checkups including senior bloodwork and a dental post adoption (most senior rescues need one). How did this dog end up with Social Tees? Most of our dogs come via partner groups who help us save them from shelters where they are at risk of euthanasia in Tennessee, Los Angeles, and Puerto Rico. There are very few spay/neuter resources there and many more animals in those areas than there are people to adopt them.
