Story
Hi, I’m King and I’m ready to find my forever home! Dog’s Name: KingLocation: Elmhurst, ILAge: 4 yearsGender: MaleWeight: Approximately 83 lbsNeutered: Yes Gets along with:Dogs?: Yes! King has done well with both big and small dogs. During his dog introduction, he wasn't reactive at all—in fact, he barely seemed concerned that the other dogs were there. He simply found himself a dog bed, laid down, and went to sleep. Cats?: UnknownKids?: Unknown. His foster home does not have children. Training:Leash Trained: Working on it! King is still learning not to pull on leash.Crate Trained: Yes! King likes his crate, especially when his blanket is inside, and willingly goes into it.Potty Trained: Yes! King has had ZERO accidents in his foster home. Car: Rides well in the car. He jumps in all by himself, settles down nicely, and enjoys looking out the windows.Commands: King sits before being fed, comes when called, and gives paw. Meet King — The Chill Guy Who Goes With the Flow If your ideal giant dog is less “LET'S DO ALL THE THINGS!” and more “Sure, I'm good with whatever,” we may have found your guy. King is one seriously chill dude. At 4 years old and approximately 83 pounds, King is past the crazy puppy stage and has settled beautifully into his foster home. He's decompressed, comfortable, and officially ready to find his forever family. His foster describes him as a “goes with the flow kinda dog,” and honestly, King seems determined to prove it. One of the best examples happened during his introduction to his foster family's dogs. New dogs? New situation? Lots going on? King couldn't have cared less. He wasn't reactive at all. He acknowledged the situation, found himself a comfy dog bed and fell asleep. Apparently King had more important things on his schedule. Like napping. Speaking of which, King is something of a dog-bed connoisseur. He enjoys sleeping on all the dog beds in the house. Why commit to one when you can rotate through the entire collection? King is also wonderfully affectionate in his own easygoing way. He loves his treats and takes them very gently, which is especially sweet coming from a big guy. And he's already got quite a few household manners checked off his résumé. King is completely potty trained and hasn't had a single accident in his foster home. He willingly goes into his crate and enjoys relaxing there with his blanket. He sits before he's fed, comes when called, and will even give you his paw. He's still working on not pulling during leash walks, but he's already showing that he's perfectly capable of learning. And when it's time to hit the road? King is ready. He jumps into the car by himself, settles down for the ride, and enjoys watching the world go by through the windows. One of King's biggest selling points may be just how easygoing and adaptable he seems to be. He's friendly with dogs both big and small. He's potty trained. He's comfortable in his crate. He rides nicely in the car.He already knows several basic commands. He takes treats gently. And he's apparently never met a dog bed he didn't like. Even better, King's foster believes he could be a wonderful choice for someone new to giant breeds. A fenced yard would certainly be a bonus, but more than anything, King seems to need a family willing to give this laid-back guy a place to belong. He's not asking to be the center of attention every second. Just give him some treats, a cozy blanket, a few strategically placed dog beds, and people to call his own. King is ready for his next chapter. And considering how well he goes with the flow, we have a feeling he'll be pretty happy as long as that next chapter includes you. Could King be the easygoing giant your family has been waiting for? Until the profile is removed from the public’s view, this dog is considered available for adoption. Story
Hi, I’m Poe and I’m ready to find my forever home! Dog’s Name: PoeLocation: Oak Park, ILDate of Birth: 5/26/2023Gender: MaleBreed: MastiffColor: BrownWeight: Approximately 89 lbs Gets along with:Dogs?: No. Poe is reactive to dogs on leash and has not been tested with them off leash, so he needs to be the only dog in his home.Cats?: No. Poe has a strong prey drive and needs a cat-free home.Kids?: No. An adult-only home is the best fit for Poe. Training:Leash Trained: Yes! Walks nicely on a loose leash.Potty Trained: Yes! Indicates when he needs to go outside and doesn't have indoor accidents.Crate: Poe goes into his crate when asked and settles nicely in it during the day and overnight when his people are home. When left home alone, however, he should not be crated because he will try to break out. The good news? When given access to the house while alone, Poe tends to stay in one room and settles nicely.Car: LOVES hopping in the car and heading out on adventures! Poe should not be left alone in the car, as he'll try to follow the adventure wherever it went. Training: Highly food motivated, eager to please, a fast learner, and loves enrichment games and learning new things. Meet Poe — Professional Kisser, Adventure Buddy & Your Future Biggest Fan Have you SEEN that face?! Those puppy eyes. That smile. Those kisses. And according to his foster, the pictures don't even capture the best part of Poe. It's the way he loves his people. Poe is loyal, fun, smart, athletic, eager to please, and incredibly affectionate. Inside his home, he's a total sweetheart who simply wants to be wherever you are. Walk into another room? Poe's probably coming. Sit down? He's checking in for pets. Look like you could use some affection? Incoming Poe kiss. His foster says he frequently checks in just to give her a kiss, get some pets, and gaze up at her with the sweetest puppy eyes imaginable. And once Poe decides you're his friend? You're REALLY his friend. People he once needed time to get comfortable with are now people Poe recognizes and gets excited to see. His foster says he'll actually drag her over to greet his friends, shower them with affection and kisses, and roll onto his back asking for belly rubs. That's the Poe we're trying so hard to help someone see. He's also got brains to go with those puppy eyes. Poe is highly food motivated, loves enrichment games, enjoys learning new things, and is eager to please. His foster believes he'd make an excellent sporting or adventure dog for someone who enjoys working and bonding with their dog. Training isn't just something Poe needs—it's something he genuinely enjoys doing with his person. Open the car door and Poe is ready to go. Head outside and he's ready to explore. Pull out something tasty and start a training session? You have his full attention. He's the kind of dog who could make an incredible companion for someone who doesn't just want a dog living in their house—they want a dog they can build a real partnership with. And we think we know where Poe's happy ending is hiding. It's probably not in the city. Poe currently lives in a very busy urban environment filled with people popping out of doorways, motorcycles, ambulances, slamming car doors, runners, skateboards, e-bikes and constant activity. That's a lot for a dog with strong guardian instincts to process. But Poe's foster has discovered something incredibly important: Poe is a completely different dog in quieter environments. When all that constant stimulation disappears, his mind can relax. He's much more discerning and doesn't react to the same triggers that bother him in the city. So instead of asking Poe to become the perfect city dog, we'd love to find the environment where Poe can be the best version of himself. His dream? A quiet suburban or rural neighborhood A securely fenced yard An active person who wants a four-legged sidekick Someone who thinks training a smart dog sounds fun A person experienced with strong guardian breeds And somewhere Poe can sniff, explore, play and sunbathe without feeling like he needs to monitor an entire city block Give this boy a yard and we suspect he's going to take his sunbathing responsibilities very seriously. Poe does have strong guardian instincts. He's an excellent watchdog and will alert his person if he sees or hears something suspicious—but he's not an excessive barker. Once his person acknowledges what he's noticed and tells him “that's enough,” he settles back down. Outside the home, Poe can react to dogs, unfamiliar people who get too close, and unexpected movement. He needs thoughtful introductions to new people and an adopter committed to continuing his training. But here's what matters: He's learning. And it's working. Poe can now see another dog from about half a block away without reacting. He's reacting less and less to people, and his foster has been working hard on helping him learn to regulate himself. She believes he can continue making significant progress with the right person—and Poe has already shown her that he's capable of it. Poe needs to be the only pet in an adult home. He's not the dog for someone looking for effortless walks through a busy downtown neighborhood. But somewhere out there is someone looking for something completely different. A smart dog to train. An athletic dog to adventure with.A watchdog who takes his job seriously.A goofy boy who rolls over for belly rubs.A shadow who follows you around the house. And a best friend who absolutely lights up when he sees someone he loves. That person doesn't need Poe to love every dog on the block. They need Poe to love them. And based on everything his foster has told us, when this boy gives you his heart, he gives you the whole thing. Poe has been waiting a long time. Maybe it's because his perfect home isn't the easiest one to find. Maybe his person needs a little land, a quieter life, an adventurous streak, and an appreciation for a smart, powerful dog who wants to build an incredible bond with them. Maybe he's just been waiting for the one person who's going to read this and realize: “That's my dog.” Could that person be you? Story
Hi, I'm Bubba and I'm ready to find my forever home! Dog's Name: BubbaLocation: Warrenville, ILAge: 4 yearsGender: MaleBreed: English MastiffWeight: Approximately 160 lbs Gets along with:Dogs?: Yes! Bubba does very well with other dogs and seems to learn from them as he discovers how to simply enjoy being a dog. He could happily live with a canine companion but would likely do just fine as an only dog, too.Cats?: UnknownKids?: Yes! Training:Leash Trained: Yes! Walks nicely on a loose leash.Crate Trained: Yes! Goes into his crate/kennel on command.Potty Trained: Yes — and not a single accident in his foster home!Car: Rides well in the car.Obedience: Bubba already has his basic skills and his foster does not feel that he requires additional obedience training. Meet Bubba — AKA “Bubba Wubba” At 160 pounds, Bubba may technically qualify as a small piece of furniture, but don't tell him that — he doesn't even get on the furniture. What he will do is quietly follow his favorite people around, soak up affection, and make it his personal mission to be there whenever someone could use a little cheering up. Bubba's foster describes him as calm, lovable, affectionate, and quite simply “the perfect boy.” He's still discovering what it means to just be a dog, and watching him learn has been incredibly sweet. Bubba loves being near the people he trusts and is wonderful at showing just how much he appreciates their affection. And for a 160-pound English Mastiff, his résumé is pretty impressive: Potty trained — zero accidents in his foster home Crate trained Walks nicely on a loose leash Rides well in the car Dog friendly Kid friendly Calm and affectionate Already has his basic skills Doesn't need a fenced yard And he's even surprisingly low on the Mastiff slobber scale — his foster says he really only gets slobbery when eating or drinking! Basically, Bubba is bringing a LOT to the relationship. Bubba does especially well with other dogs and seems to take cues from them as he learns more about life as a beloved family dog. A canine sibling could be a wonderful companion for him, but his foster believes he could also be perfectly happy as an only dog where he gets all the attention for himself. He's also a wonderfully flexible match when it comes to his future family. His foster believes Bubba could be a great fit for many different types of adopters. A fenced yard isn't required, and he already has the basic skills needed to settle into family life. Mostly, Bubba seems to be looking for something pretty simple: A family to love, a comfortable place to land, and people he can quietly follow around while perfecting the art of being Bubba. He's already got the manners. He's already got the sweet personality. He's already got the giant squishy face. Now he just needs his family. If you've been dreaming of a calm, affectionate, well-mannered Mastiff who happens to come in a 160-pound package of love, Bubba might just be your perfect boy.  Could Bubba be the giant best friend you've been waiting for?
