Chico: Pug / Neutered Male / 3.5 Years Old / 17 Pounds Chico is an active and playful boy. He gets along well with other dogs, likes children and knows how to walk on a leash. He enjoys cuddles and is a very good, affectionate companion. He knows how to sleep in a crate. After playing, he goes to his bed to rest; he just observes and is not destructive. He loves being around people. He and a dog were rescued from a woman who kept them in a cage, never letting them out. They lived a miserable life because if they barked, they were beaten, and they had to step in their own feces and urine. Chico had burns on part of his skin, which have now completely healed; only a few small patches of dark, but healthy, fur remain. In the canine heart, there is always hope. Wezley is about 4 years old, just over 20 pounds, and fully aware that he has opinions.He came to us after being relinquished because he started resource guarding his previous owner from her husband. Wezley takes his people very seriously, what can he say! In the right home, this is something that can be worked on. He is currently on medication for anxiety, and with structure, training, and continued socialization, he has a lot of potential to improve.Now that you know the serious part, here’s the real Wezley:He is a velcro pug in the truest sense. He wants to be near his person, always. He loves cuddles, sunshine, car rides, walks, running around, and rolling in grass like it’s his job. Then he’ll flip the switch and happily go off to sleep on his own like nothing happened.He also knows a ton of cues already: sit, stay, down, spin, roll, speak, wait, shake, outside, and all variations of “food” and “treat.” He is very smart and very food motivated, which is a big advantage for continued training.He does have some things he’s not a fan of, including nail trims, ear cleaning, loud noises, some male humans, and some larger dogs. So he’ll do best with structure, clear boundaries, and someone who understands dog body language and management.Since being with us, Wezley has actually done well with other dogs and all the people he's met!
