Cantaloupe can be a little shy and anxious around new people, but once she realizes she’s safe, she shows just how loving and loyal she can be. Say hello to Candy Cane! Yes, we know it’s not the holiday season, but the name stuck because this guy really is just that sweet. Candy Cane is about 5 years old and weighs around 23 pounds. He came to us after his owner moved, and the transition didn’t go well for him, he’s a sensitive little guy who takes change hard.His previous home mentioned he wasn’t great with young kids under 5. We weren’t given much detail on what that meant, but since he’s been with us, he’s been nothing but calm, gentle, and easy to be around. Still, we think he’d do best in a quieter home with older kids who understand dogs like him like mellow, peaceful environments, not chaos.Candy Cane lived with a cat previously and did great with it, and he gets along really well with other dogs too. He can be a little shy when meeting new people, but he warms up quickly and really enjoys attention once he feels safe. He’s easy to walk, takes his time, and loves exploring his surroundings at his own pace.What makes Candy Cane special is how steady and loving he is once he opens up. He wants to be close to his people, whether that means curling up at your feet or quietly following you around the house. He’s not needy, just loyal. Paso's journey hasn't been easy, but he's a resilient dog with a heart full of untapped potential. Found as a stray and brought to a shelter, Paso faced several challenges, including seizures and reactivity towards shelter staff.Recognizing Paso's need for specialized care, the shelter reached out to us. While he was initially reactive with us too, after being with us for nearly two years now and with plenty of time to decompress and adapt, Paso has become a staff favorite! While he still has some anxiety about meeting new people, given time and patience, he warms up beautifully.Paso's seizure disorder is managed with medication, though he experiences occasional break-through seizures which is normal for his condition. An MRI confirmed he has idiopathic epilepsy, so he will need lifelong medication. His future adopter should be prepared to maintain a close relationship with their vet.Paso's journey has left him with some emotional scars, including a bite history. He needs a patient and understanding person to help him heal and build trust. Due to his history of reactivity, Paso cannot be placed in a home with children.Paso is social and does well with other dogs, especially puppies. He loves showing them how to play and cuddle. Paso is very food motivated and eagerly anticipates mealtime, singing and jumping in excitement. He's also a treat sleuth, so keep an eye on your stash!While Paso's journey has been difficult, he is worth every ounce of effort. With your love, patience, and dedication, Paso can bloom into the loving, faithful companion he's meant to be.
