Story
This precious little gem was found by herself on a corner in horrible shape: nasty eyes, hind-end weakness that caused her to drag to get around, and maggots covering her entire backside. If that wasn't enough, we found that she is also diabetic. Despite her list of ailments, Zelda is still full of life and love. To say she is a tough cookie would be putting it mildly. This sassy lady has ENDURED! She took zero time to come out of her shell…she even started walking! She is feisty with the other Pugs when the spirit moves her, but really does get along with everyone. Zelda loves to be where the humans are and where the action is. If there is a grumble of Pugs playing or arguing you can be sure she will put herself right in the middle of the commotion. She insists on being in the know at all times! Although she loves other dogs, nothing makes her heart sing more than being in the lap or arms of a human, feeling cuddles and love. The smile that graces her face is indescribable. In addition to human attention, Zelda loves her toys and getting out for some fresh air and sunshine. Though not a candidate for long walks, we think she would do well in a stroller or a wheelchair of her own. Zelda is sometimes able to pee on her own, and does need to be expressed. She would also need a special diet (and special treats) to accommodate her diabetic needs. She is considered special needs and the love she has to give in return is well worth the extra effort and care. We really hope there is someone out there willing to open their heart and home to this extraordinary lady. We are confident that her bubbly personality is sure to keep you entertained!

Story
Oh Virgil…. The most unique and quirky boy to ever come through the doors of Pug Nation. To say he is special is an understatement and a half. Virgil was an owner surrender to a local shelter before coming to the rescue. He had been with his previous family his entire life, until one day when he started developing some reactivity towards the family. After being with us for the last two years (yep…YEARS) we have definitely noticed some behavioral problems here and there as well. But you know what else we noticed – A dog who came in scared and was deemed aggressive and red-listed by the shelter, transform into a confident and sweet puppy who greets his favorite people with a little hop and excited whimper. A senior boy who loves playing with the smallest and squeakiest toys he can find. A happy boy who will do literally anything for a treat. A dog who underneath it all was developing some health problems and whose reactions were likely a result of being in pain. Virgil has had a whirlwind couple of years to say the least. He was diagnosed with a blood disease, got sick a few times, had some skin issues, but has never let any of it get him down, and in fact is one of the most resilient creatures ever! He's doing much better now and deserves a home after everything he’s been through and all the progress he has made. Here's the key to Virgil's heart: LOTS of treats and never trying to pick him up. He's a little guy and prefers being on the ground minding his own business to being held or cuddled. Since his arrival to Pug Nation staff and volunteers have joked that Virgil has much more in common with cats than dogs. Let him come to you in his own time and give him space to decompress and he'll be happy to share his life with you. His ideal home will have a patient owner who understands that Virg needs time to know he can trust you. Once he does, he’ll be your unwavering companion for the rest of time. Story
Unfortunate events brought this strong bonded pug family to us. Fani the mom is the glue that holds them together. She is sweet as pie and will always give you love when you are in need. Gumbo the father is the brawn and protector of the family, he will never let them down. Don’t let his older age fool you, he can keep up with the youngest in the pen! Pierogi the son, can be a little rambunctious and prefers to be the center of attention. He’s got an undeniable wild side, but he’s a mommas boy at heart. He loves to clean his moms ears and snuggle up close to her when it’s time to nap. And last of all we have Jilly Puff, the darling daughter and lover of dresses. Jilly Puff is everyone’s best friend and has amazing fun energy. She will be the first to grab a toy and say “let’s play”. This family lost their previous owner a little while back and were brought to us in hopes of finding them a new forever home. We like to observe bonded dogs that come in before really considering them bonded, and it did not take long to realize that this family needed to stay together, no matter what. They have all been examined by our vet with only minor ailments to address. As well as getting them on the right diet since they were quite overweight upon their arrival. We hope there is someone out there with a home and heart big enough to give this family the security and love they need.

Story
Meet Fiero, the pandemic puppy who just wants to love and be loved! This three-year-old boy has been at Pug Nation for over a year without any bites from potential adopters. Don't let that bunny hop fool you, Fiero is just waiting for his perfect human to come along and let him out to play. Sure, he wasn't the most well-socialized pup around, but who was during the pandemic? Fiero would get so excited on walks that he'd nip at his original owners, but he's a smart cookie and can learn with the right training. He's also hyper and alpha, so he's like that one overachiever in your office, but without the ability to discriminate between the copy machine and the water cooler. And speaking of discrimination, Fiero can be a bit dog-selective at times, so he won't be your perfect wingman at the dog park. But hey, he's not totally ruling out having another fuzzy friend in his forever home. We'd recommend doing a ""foster-to-adopt"" with Fiero where you essentially have a two-week trial period to see if he's a good match with your other animals. If it all works out you can make it official! At the rescue, Fiero likes to tuck himself into his blankets and hideout like your teenage cousin when the family comes over. But when someone new comes in, he hops his little bunny butt up and tries his best to be noticed. Sadly, he's always overlooked like the office janitor during Employee Appreciation Day. Fiero is funny, sweet, and super active. He just needs a few good trainings, lots of exercise, and ultimately needs to get off the clock at the rescue. So why not give this pandemic pup a chance at a fur-ever home? Adopt Fiero today!

Sweetpea is the definition of sweet! She would do best in a home where the humans are home a lot, since she wants to be with her humans desperately. Sweetpea loves walks, to play, and just be by your side. She's a little lover that's great with other dogs and older children. Younger kids and elderly in the home can be okay, but probably not ideal, since she has the typical bulldog tendencies of bulldozing her way through (in the cutest way of course). Cats untested! Sweetpea is currently being fostered in Arizona.

Story
Lulu is a 3 year old breeder throw away that was saved from euthanasia at the last minute. She is a treasure and we couldn’t be happier for her to have a chance at love. She’s a beautiful, adorable little gremlin that would do great in a home with kids older than 4 yrs since she isn’t aware her bulldog curves can make her a bowling ball when she’s excited. Can’t blame a girl for her body positivity! You go Lulu, girl! Lulu would be great with an English bulldog experienced owner that understands their unique character traits, but that’s not a requirement, as long as you’ll love & be patient with her the way she’ll be with you. Lulu has a preference for being the dominant female, so we think it would be best to put her in a home with male dogs only. She is spayed, potty trained & ready for a furever home with her soul person. If you think that could be you, feel free to reach out. She’d love to meet you ❤️
