Story
Coco was born August 15, 2022. He has been with our family since 8 weeks old. I bought Coco as a companion for my 12 year old. Having to rehome him has been a very hard decision for us. As a single mom of three ages 12, 10 & 9, we have a busy schedule and we don't have time to dedicate to him. Aside from that we live in an apartment. Coco loves to play in the snow, he loves to play with his squeaky toys, he loves treats, and most of all he loves the kids. We are looking for someone who has time to dedicate to him. Someone who can take him for long walks & give him lots of cuddles. He is potty trained, but he may have an occasional accident if we are not here to take him out. We ask that whom ever the kids pick to give Coco his forever home would allow them to call & check on him or maybe even see him every once and awhile. At least until they can settle with knowing he is in a good place.

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Thank you for stopping by to see me!  Please fill out an application to set up  a private meeting.  Want to meet me? Come to SLP Nutrition (6538 W Lake St, St Louis Park, MN 55426) for an Adoption Event on Saturday, March 30th from 10:00 am-12:00 pm. Please email inquiries@underdogrescuemn.com for questions regarding the dogs. Hello, my name is Charleston! I am a dashing, calm, and very sweet senior male Shih Tzu who loves to sit on foster mom’s lap while she works. I’m not really into toys but I enjoy watching TV, sleeping in bed with mom at night, and I LOVE to eat food and treats, especially popcorn… YUUUMMM! Oh yea, I’m quite the dancer too! It’s true, in fact, I think my moves are better than Fred Astaire’s and I like to show off my dancing prowess whenever I want a treat or to be lifted onto the couch. By the way, I also did great at the groomer but then who doesn’t want to look all spiffy am I right!?! Anyway, I do not like being left alone and I hate the kennel/crate! As a matter of fact, I will bark in either of those situations so hopefully my new family will be home with me (and doesn’t have shared walls!). I am, however, good about doing my business outside on a schedule; I do well with the leash; and I’m great with kids, cats, and other small dogs like me. All I need now is YOU…a patient, unconditionally loving fur-ever family that will NEVER give up on me. I’m a patient guy with a wonderful soul and a heart that is brimming with love that I want to share with you! I really hope you’ll be my new family…I assure you that life will be MUCH better if we share it together! Love, Charleston *Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders. Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared. Each dog receives basic grooming when coming into rescue, but for some dogs they have not received grooming attention until recently and grooming may be required shortly after adoption. This will be at the adopter’s expense, so we encourage you to research the breed and be prepared for grooming expenses. Underdog cannot guarantee hypoallergenic or non-shedding qualities of any dogs in our rescue. Some of the animals come from situations where they are lacking experience in a home and confidence in humans. In turn, they require another companion dog and/or a fenced in yard in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a particular dog whose bio states those needs and do not currently have them, please understand that your home might not be the right fit. Please use the filter on our Adoptable Dogs page to find the perfect match for your home.   ***Be sure to check your spam/junk folder as sometimes our emails end up there*** Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.If you have other questions about me you can email Underdog Rescue at <inquiries@underdogrescuemn.com> ADOPTION EVENTS:      Adoption events are updated at the top of each dogs animals' as their foster home signs up. Check back for updates on which events they will be attending. If an event is not listed within their bio above, the animal is not planning to attend.  Please understand that all of our pets are in volunteer foster homes and sometimes "life" happens and the foster family cannot make it to their scheduled adoption event. If you are traveling from a far distance to meet a specific animal, please understand we cannot guarantee event attendance. We recommend filling out an application and we will set up a private appointment. Private appointments are only scheduled after an application is submitted and approved. ADOPTION PROCEDURE: The first step in our process is to complete an online adoption application on our website: http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/adoptionprocess/   Note: In most circumstances Underdog Rescue will only adopt within 60 miles of Minneapolis, MN.  All of our foster animals can be seen by appointment with an approved adoption application. Contact us at http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/contact-us/ if you have further questions. FOSTER CARE: All of our animals are fostered in individual homes or doggie daycare facilities. While they are in our care, they are part of our families and given lots of love. We work on training, crate-training and socialization prior to adoption, but each bio is written by the foster as they see them, in their home. Each animal's behavior is evaluated and we have a sense of its temperament and personality, but it cannot be guaranteed. We look for adopters who will give each animal the wonderful life and permanent home that he or she deserves in time and with patience.  If you have an interest and ability to be a foster home, please visit our website  www.underdogrescuemn.com/foster-applications  and fill out a foster application. NUTRITION: Nutrition is vital to the rehabilitation and life-long health of our pets.  All of our foster animals are fed a premium diet such as NutriSource, Canidae, Orijen, Nature's Variety, Fromm, Pure Vita, Stella and Chewy's, Primal, or balanced raw diet.  All adopters are required to continue providing premium diets for the life of the animal. In addition to the following profile for this dog, please first read the Adoption Information at http://www.shihtzurescuemn.org/adopt.html to understand the process, requirements and timeline for adoption. An adoption application can also be found in the Adoption Info section. If, after reading that information, you have any questions, please submit your question via e-mail and it will be answered. Please do not request a phone call. A personal phone call will only be made when an adoption application has been submitted and the foster parent wishes to consider the application. Thank you! Petey is an 8-year-old male Shih Tzu mix that weighs 15 pounds. He has beautiful curly black hair with a small white mark on his chest. Petey came into rescue when we were contacted by a veterinary clinic, where he was taken to be euthanized because his owners didn’t want him anymore. The vet thought Petey was a sweet boy and wouldn’t, in all good conscience, euthanize him, so the owners just gave him to the clinic. Petey had been badly neglected by his owners, was horribly matted and had no previous veterinary care. When he was evaluated by the veterinarian, Petey was found to have chronic kidney disease. He is now on a very specific prescription diet for kidney disease and is doing very well. He cannot have any other food or treats because his kidney disease will return and he will prematurely die. But if maintained on the prescription diet, he can live a long, healthy, happy life. No other medications, other than the diet, are necessary. Petey is a loving, happy guy. He follows his people and wants to be by you or at least always be able to see you. He likes to spend his evenings sitting with you. He enjoys going outside and loves a fenced in yard. Petey is pretty well house trained, and his foster parents continue to work on that by letting him out every couple hours during the day, and by having piddle pads available for him at night. He sleeps contently in his own bed at night. He gets along with his foster siblings so a small companion dog would be fine.. An adults only home would suit him perfectly, although older children (older than 12 years), who are quiet and respectful would be okay. These are the requirements for Petey’s new family: • An adult, stay at home family, although older children would be okay. • Petey does not do stairs so he needs to live in a single story home. • A fenced yard is a plus.t. He loves to explore the outdoors, but as importantly, he must be let out every 2-3 hours to urinate, and a fenced yard would facilitate that. • Petey needs a family that can willingly afford his prescription kidney disease diet, and be vigilant about feeding him ONLY the prescribed food, including treats. He must stay on this for the rest of his life in order to remain healthy. • A family within 60 miles of the Twin Cities. • Commit to attending the annual Shih Tzu Rescue Reunion every year in September. Petey is neutered, current on vaccinations and on heartworm and flea preventative. He is scheduled for a dental January 3rd at Rice Creek with a recheck of labs scheduled a month later in February, also at Rice Creek. Petey’s adoption fee is $270.00 plus $23.02 sales tax for a total cost of $293.02. To meet Petey, please complete an adoption application at the website listed in the first paragraph. Or you can also see him and the other dogs available for adoption from Shih Tzu Rescue of Minnesota by visiting with us from 10:00 AM to 12:00 noon the first Saturday of every month at PETCO in Southtown Center in Bloomington.

Please do not request a phone call. A personal phone call will only be made when an adoption application has been submitted and the foster parent wishes to consider the application. Thank you! Coco is an 11 year old, male, Shih Tzu mix who acts like he is 5 years old. He weighs 15 pounds. He is energetic and playful and has a real zest for life. He was surrendered to the rescue after his owner had health issues and could no longer care for him. It appears Coco was loved and well cared for until the last year, when his owner’s health seriously declined and Coco was very neglected. Coco came into the rescue, not having not been groomed for over a year and needed veterinary care. After Coco received the care and consistency he needed, his foster parents have found that he loves to snuggle, enjoys his walks, food and toys. He is making up for the last year, experiencing the good life in his foster home after being neglected for so long. He really enjoys the company of his people, but also is okay with some alone time hanging out in his kennel. He feels secure in his kennel and goes there as his “safe” spot if the door is left open and he can go in and out as he pleases. He also prefers to sleep at night in his kennel. Coco enjoys car rides and is a great, calm traveling companion. The best home for Coco will be: - Coco is a very active dog and needs an owner who will enthusiastically engage and play with him, and can be home most of the day. Even though Coco is 11 years old, he has lots of energy and likes his walks and going outside on a daily, regular basis. This is a must for him to keep him happy and healthy. - He is accepting of another small dog in the family, but would be fine as an only dog. Coco is rather protective of his toys and food and this should be taken into consideration if another dog is in the home. - Coco’s new family will need to be patient in understanding Coco’s previous neglect situation, comfort him and help him acclimate to his new surroundings. He will need to re-learn, with his owners’ reassurance, that he can trust his owners to provide food and toys without him having to guard or protect them. - Coco would probably okay with kids that are respectful and who have had experience with small dogs. A family with children over the age of ten will be considered. - Live within 45 miles of Lakeville, MN and agree to attend the annual rescue reunion held each year in September. Coco is neutered, current on vaccinations and is on heartworm and flea/tick preventative. He will be having dental surgery on April 29th, and will be available for adoption after a brief recovery period. Even though Coco will go to his adoptive home until after his dental, adoption applications are being accepted now. His adoption fee is $170.00 plus sales tax of $14.49 for a total of $184.49. To meet Coco, please complete an adoption application at the website listed in the first paragraph. Or you can also see him and the other dogs available for adoption from Shih Tzu Rescue of Minnesota by visiting with us from 10:00 AM to 12:00 noon the first Saturday of every month at the Southtown Center in Bloomington, MN.

Please do not request a phone call. A personal phone call will only be made when an adoption application has been submitted and the foster parent wishes to consider the application. Thank you. Rudy is an energetic, adorable 7 year old boy who loves to play fetch and shake his toys. He weighs about 10 pounds and has silky, soft white hair, gray ears, and spots on his back. He loves to sit on the couch and watch out the window, just primed to protect the house from a squirrel or the neighbors’ golden doodle. But Rudy truly wants nothing more than a lap to snuggle on. His favorite spot is near you, preferably ON you. Rudy loves to be outside and enjoys meeting new people while on walks or just accompanying you while you work in the yard. He does need some training while leash walking, because he tends to pull towards people and lunge at bikes while on his walk. So his new family must commit to doing some training so that Rudy, and they, will enjoy their walks. He wants to please his owner and responds well to praise, so he will be easy to train. Rudy would do well as an only dog, or with another small dog, but especially in a family where there is someone home most of the time. Rudy is house trained, but may need some reinforcing and patience when he makes the transition to his new home. Rudy is a good boy who wants a perfect home and family. In order to ensure that, here are the requirements that his foster mom would like for his new family: • Rudy needs an active family/owner that will walk him and make him a part of their daily life. He does need some leash training to make his walks more enjoyable. • A family that works from home, or is home most of the day, would be ideal for Rudy. • Rudy can be in a home with another small dog who will help him learn by being a role model and friend. However, he would also do well as an only dog. • A family with children over the age of 10 will be considered, depending on their experience with a small dog. • Rudy will definitely want to sleep in bed with his new family as he loves to cuddle and be close to his humans. • Rudy’s new family should live within the 30 miles of Shoreview, MN and commit to attending the Shih Tzu Rescue Reunion held each year in September. We understand there are quite a few requirements for Rudy’s new family. But if you meet the requirements, you will have abundant joy with this cute funny boy. Rudy will have a dental on April 5th and will be ready to go to his new home shortly after that. But adoption applications are being accepted now. He is neutered, current on vaccinations, microchipped and on heartworm and flea/tick preventative. His adoption fee is $270.00 plus $23.02 in sales tax for a total of $293.02. To meet Rudy, please complete an adoption application at the website listed in the first paragraph.
