I’m Bash, a 3-year-old, 14 pound Shih Tzu with a heart as soft as my fur. I’m a gentle, sweet-natured guy who’s still learning to come out of his shell. It takes me a little time to warm up to new people and places, but once I do, I’ll be your loyal shadow. I like hanging out in the same room as my humans and would love if my people are home most of the time. Toys are a newfound joy of mine! I’ve also discovered how fun it is to play with other dogs. Treats? Absolutely love them! And if you have a yard, I’m in heaven—I adore spending time outside, exploring at my own pace. I’d require a fenced yard where I can feel secure while I roam, as I’m still working on leash-walking and can get a bit spooked by loud noises or busy places. I know a few commands like sit, come, and leave it, and I’m doing well with potty training as long as we stick to a routine. While I’m not a big fan of being left alone in a crate, I’m fine sleeping in one at night if it’s near you. When I’m happy, I’ll show you my playful side with a little dance! Weighing in at just 10 pounds, I’m the perfect size to follow you around (which I love to do!) and snuggle up for some cozy downtime. I’m always in a good mood and full of energy. Playing is my absolute favorite thing, whether it’s with chew toys, bones, fetch in the yard, or even soccer—I’m pretty athletic for my size! I live with two senior Shih Tzu foster siblings. While they’re not as into playtime as I am, I think they secretly love having me around. I also adore my foster kids. They’re great at keeping up with my energy, and when we’re done, I’m ready for cuddles on the couch. At night, I’ve got a cute habit of putting myself to bed—how’s that for adorable? I’m still learning the ropes with potty training, but having doggy role models is helping me improve every day. I’ve mastered my crate, though I might whimper just a little when I first settle in. I haven’t had much experience with leash training yet and can be a bit unsure, so a fenced yard is a must—I love the freedom to zoom around and explore safely. I’m a sweet, sociable pup who gets along with dogs of all sizes and loves kids. I haven’t met any cats yet, but I think I’d be willing to give it a shot. Oh, and you’ll be happy to know I’m not much of a barker—just the occasional whimper here and there. I’m a 4-month-old Shih Tzu with a personality that’s a mix of calm cuddles and playful zoomies. At home, I’m the perfect little companion—chill and content to hang out with my humans (especially if it means sitting by your feet while you work). But, spoiler alert—outside the house, I can get a bit nervous. Vet trips? Grooming sessions? Let’s just say the shakes come out. I’m still working on building my confidence in new places, but I promise, I’m super brave once I feel comfortable! I’m a quick learner (especially when treats are involved) and a curious little guy. I love exploring new things, but let’s be real, I’m still just a puppy and have a lot to figure out. For example, I’m really close to being potty trained, but I’m not quite there yet. Just need a good schedule, and I’ll get it down, no problem! Oh, and did I mention I’m totally adorable? I weigh in at just 5 pounds which means I’m a small package of cuteness with big personality! I’m fantastic with kids, and I’ll happily play fetch with you (though full disclosure—I sometimes forget to bring the ball back...oops). I’m also good with dogs of all sizes, but I wouldn’t mind being your one and only if you can shower me with love and attention! I’m still learning the ropes on the leash (I’m pretty good at it now), but the snow? Oh, no thank you. My little paws don’t love it when they get all icy. Starla is a confident, playful, and affectionate two year old, 16 pound Maltese-Shih Tzu mix with a heart full of love to give. Starla came into our rescue via another rescue in Iowa. It is thought that she was given up because she required hip surgery due to a previous injury, possibly being hit by a car. She’s adjusting well to her new foster home and is ready to find her forever family. Starla is confident, playful, and loving. She enjoys sitting on laps and is a true cuddle bug, always seeking close contact with her humans. Sleeping in bed with her family is heaven for her. She loves playing with other dogs and can be found whining trying to get her senior foster brother to play! Starla is an active girl who loves to play and engage with her family. She enjoys running around the yard and would thrive in a home where she can get plenty of exercise and stimulation. She does well with walks but is still learning proper leash manners. A fenced yard would be ideal for her to burn off some energy. Starla is doing great with house training but there may be some accidents as she adjusts to a new home. Starla knows a few commands like sit and stand. She’s very smart and quick to learn, making her a great candidate for further training. She would benefit from some behavioral training, but she is treat-motivated and eager to please. Starla would thrive in an active home, preferably with a family who enjoys outdoor activities. She will do well in a home with children over the age of ten who have had experience interacting with a small dog. She gets along well with other dogs and would love a small canine companion who has a similar energy level. Starla recently had successful hip surgery (femoral head and neck excision) and is recovering well. While she’s already bouncing around more than she should, she requires at-home therapy to support her recovery and won’t be available for adoption until the first week in February. But applications for her adoption are being accepted now. Depending on her stage of recovery, her new family may need to continue performing some in-home therapy after adoption. These are the requirements for Starla’s new home: · Starla needs a family who can provide her with plenty of daily exercise and playtime, including long walks. A secure fenced yard would be ideal. · A family who is home much of the day and will include Starla in their daily activities. · Starla recently had hip surgery and her new family may need to continue with in-home therapy for a while after her adoption. It is imperative that her new family commit to doing so. · A family with children over the age of ten who have had experience with a small dog will be considered. · Starla would enjoy another small playful dog in the family, but it is not a deal breaker. · Starla loves to cuddle and be near her people, and sleeping in bed at night with her family members is a must. · Hew new family should live within 30 miles of Roseville, MN and be willing to attend the annual Shih Tzu Rescue reunion every September. Starla is spayed, current on vaccinations, microchipped, and on heartworm and flea/tick preventative. She may need to complete at-home therapy after her adoption depending on the healing of her hip and her new family must agree to do required exercises.
