You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Thank you for stopping by to see me!  Please fill out an application to set up  a private meeting.  Do you want to meet me? Come to the Harlowe Salon , just down the street from our Headquarters in St. Louis Park ( 6414 W Lake St, Minneapolis, MN 55426 ) for an Adoption Event on Saturday July 27th 12:00-2:00 pm. Please email inquiries@underdogrescuemn.com for questions regarding the dogs.   Hi, I'm Derby! I'm a 4-year-old female Shih-Tzu, weighing in at a perfect 15 pounds. I'm the epitome of calm and laid-back, and I absolutely love to snuggle up with my favorite blankets at home. Once I get to know you and trust you, I'll be your little shadow, happily following you around wherever you go. I am timid and shy when approached, but getting braver everyday. One of my absolute favorite things in the world is food—it's the quickest way to my heart! I'm doing great with potty and crate training – a little treat bribery helps! I do have a few fears. Thunderstorms, loud noises, children, and overwhelming commotion can make me quite anxious. Because of this, I'm not good with children under 12 years old and would do best in a calm, quiet home. We are working on leash training, but because I am fearful it would be nice to have a fenced yard as I need more practice with my outdoor explorations. I don't need to be placed in a home with another dog, but if there is another dog, I prefer smaller ones. Most importantly, I need my humans to be home most of the time because I thrive on companionship. I'm extremely sweet and lovable. Though I might be skittish at first, once I trust you, I'll show you just how loving and affectionate I can be. If you're looking for a calm, food-loving, snuggly companion who will adore you endlessly, I'm your girl! Love, Derby Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders. Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared. Each dog receives basic grooming when coming into rescue, but for some dogs they have not received grooming attention until recently and grooming may be required shortly after adoption. This will be at the adopter’s expense, so we encourage you to research the breed and be prepared for grooming expenses. Underdog cannot guarantee hypoallergenic or non-shedding qualities of any dogs in our rescue. Some of the animals come from situations where they are lacking experience in a home and confidence in humans. In turn, they require another companion dog and/or a fenced in yard in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a particular dog whose bio states those needs and do not currently have them, please understand that your home might not be the right fit. Please use the filter on our Adoptable Dogs page to find the perfect match for your home.   ***Be sure to check your spam/junk folder as sometimes our emails end up there*** Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.If you have other questions about me you can email Underdog Rescue at <inquiries@underdogrescuemn.com> ADOPTION EVENTS:      Adoption events are updated at the top of each dogs animals' as their foster home signs up. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Thank you for stopping by to see me!  Please fill out an application to set up  a private meeting.  Hey there, I’m Archie! I may be a senior, but let me tell you, I’ve still got plenty of love and energy to go around. I’m a total indoor dog—I mean, who needs the great outdoors when you’ve got all the cozy comforts of home, right? Whether it’s rain or shine, I’m perfectly content to do my business outside and then hurry back indoors for some quality snuggle time. Toys? Oh, I can’t get enough of them! Soft, crinkly, you name it—I’ll play with anything you give me. And when it comes to treats, well, let’s just say I’ve never met one I didn’t like. Now, about that fenced yard situation—I’m not so sure I need one. Sure, I enjoy the occasional walk, but I’m not dependent on it for bathroom breaks. I’m more of a in-and-out kind of guy when it comes to outdoor activities. Plus, I’m not the best on a leash and new things can make me a little nervous, so having a safe and secure yard where I can play without worry sounds like a dream. But let me tell you, when it comes to snuggles, I’m the absolute best. I’ll cuddle up with you for hours on end, bringing joy and warmth to your home every single day. So if you’re looking for a loving companion who’s just as happy playing with toys as he is snuggling up on the couch, then look no further—I’m your guy, Archie, ready to bring a whole lot of love into your life! *Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders. Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared. Each dog receives basic grooming when coming into rescue, but for some dogs they have not received grooming attention until recently and grooming may be required shortly after adoption. At home, I'm mellow but love to make good use of the toy box, especially when it comes to my favorite squeaky and crinkle toys. My absolute favorite is the bacon toy! I'm pretty social and get along with everyone. I always try to include myself in whatever is going on. While I can be a little hesitant at times, I'm not fearful or shy. I adapt well and love being part of the action. I'm still working on my potty training, but I'm making progress! I'm also learning to be comfortable in my crate. I eat in there, and although I might cause a bit of a ruckus at first, I do settle down eventually. We haven’t worked on leash training so I do require a fenced yard in my forever home. Overall, I am fairly quiet, but will let you know when I am alarmed or need something. I'm looking for a patient and caring family who will give me the love and attention I deserve. If you're ready to welcome a curious, friendly, and loving little dog into your home, I'm your girl! You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Thank you for stopping by to see me!  Please fill out an application to set up  a private meeting.  Keep checking back for upcoming events I will be attending!       Hi there! My name is Dice, and I’m a 10-month-old Shorkie Poo weighing in at 8.5 lbs of pure delight! I have lots of personality and am a happy, playful, and energetic little guy. But don’t worry—I also love taking several naps and enjoy some quiet time each day. I have a blast playing with my small squeaky toys, balls, and chew bones. Sometimes I even like to watch TV, especially if there’s a dog or a crying baby on screen! I’m almost potty trained as long as I’m on a good schedule, and I’m working on my crate training. I do bark when left alone, but my people don’t know how long I keep it up so a home with shared walls isn’t a good idea. I don’t need a fenced yard since I’m getting the hang of leash training. I’ve only been outside in a fenced yard so far, so I’ll need some practice walking on a leash. I’m a smart boy and am learning commands like 'Come,' 'Leave it,' and 'Kennel.' I’m great with smaller dogs but tend to bark at the big dogs in the neighbor’s yard because they scare me, and I run back to the deck. I don’t need to be placed in a home with another dog as long as my humans are home most of the time. A few more fun things about me: I know how to go up and down steps, and I can jump up on furniture or couch level. Like most puppies, I’m starting to chew on things, so keep an eye on your shoes and envelopes! If you offer me a treat, I’ll stand on my hind legs and turn in a circle—how’s that for a trick? I’d make a great addition to a loving home, and I promise to bring lots of joy and fun to your life. Could you be my forever family? Love, Dice *I’m a growing puppy and I have not yet had a lot of experience with crates, kids or cats and I might bark if something alarms me, but I really love to learn and hoping for a family who will take me to a basic obedience class to continue to help me build confidence and dog skills. Ideally my forever home would need to be home during the day to help me with my potty training and not leave me for breaks longer than 3 - 4 hours. If you are looking for a best friend, please fill out the puppy application. The more info you include on the application the better so I can find a good match for my forever home. Get your toy box ready! **Obedience classes are required when adopting this puppy from Underdog Rescue. Many of our puppies have a mama who was not properly socialized before coming to Underdog Rescue. Since coming to Underdog, this puppy has been in a socialized and loving home, but that needs to be continued with its Adopters. Training classes teach puppies the ins and outs of being a pet while creating a bond with their new Adopter. Obedience classes are key to creating a relationship with your puppy while having it be a happy and successful member of society. Proof of Obedience Class registration is required for this puppy before adoptions can be finalized. If you would like some suggestions, we would be happy to send some trainers who have experience with Underdog Rescue, but a Basic Obedience class in your area should work! Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders. T his puppy requires an application fee. This fee must be paid within 24 hours or your application will be considered void.  We will not review or contact applicants that have not completed the payment portion.   Puppy Applications will be responded to within 5 business days, after receipt of the application fee.  Please understand that paying the fee does not guarantee you will be approved to adopt the puppy. Our goal is place puppies in homes that are suited for their individual needs. You may be willing and able to provide a great home, but if it doesn’t meet the specific needs of the puppy, we will not approve your application. We accept applications for puppies until we have a candidate that meets all of the requirements needed for the specific puppy and they have been contacted to review the adoption process as well as agree to all of the terms to move forward. In addition to the following profile for this dog, please first read the Adoption Information at http://www.shihtzurescuemn.org/adopt.html to understand the process, requirements and timeline for adoption. An adoption application can also be found in the Adoption Info section. If, after reading that information, you have any questions, please submit your question via e-mail and it will be answered. Please do not request a phone call. A personal phone call will only be made when an adoption application has been submitted and the foster parent wishes to consider the application. Thank you. Meet Pandie who is a 5 year old fun loving Shih/Poo, who for the most part does everything she can to please you. She is a fast learner but is sometimes fearful. She is house trained, but until she feels comfortable in a new home and trusts the people she is with, she may have a few accidents in the house. Pandie is not a real confident dog and definitely needs a family who understanding of insecure dogs and will encourage her to overcome her fears of new people, new situations and experiences so that she, and her family, can have a happy life. Now that she knows and loves her foster mom, she enjoys having her belly rubbed, does zoomies in the backyard, and chows her food down like it’s her last meal. Pandie is currently sleeping at night in a dog bed in the bedroom of her foster mom and does well with that. These are the requirements for Pandie’s new family: 1. A home that has a fenced back yard so that she can run freely, while being supervised. 2. Someone who will be home much of the day. 3. A family who will be patient and help her develop confidence. They must understand that this which will take time, consistency, and a general avoidance of activity which will create stressors for her. 4. Because Pandie is a bit fearful, she should be adopted by an adults only family where there is little activity with strangers coming in and out of the home. Children over the age of ten will be considered if they have had experience with a small dog and know to gently interact with a fearful dog. 5. Live within a 25 mile radius of Edina, MN. Pandie is spayed, current on vaccinations, microchipped and on heartworm and flea/tick preventative care. Her adoption fee is $320.00 plus $27.28 in sales tax for a total of $347.28. To meet Pandie, please complete an adoption application at the website listed in the first paragraph. Or you can also see her and the other dogs available for adoption from Shih Tzu Rescue of Minnesota by visiting with us from 10:00 AM to 12:00 noon the first Saturday of every month at the Southdale PetCo in Bloomington, MN.

Loki is a mellow one year old boy who lives up to his name, as he is mischievous and very curious. Loki weighs about 10 pounds and is mainly white with light tan ears and light spots on his back. He came into rescued after being neglected quite a bit and it was necessary to shave him down to remove the mats in his hair. But when his hair grows out, it will be beautiful and he’s going to be so handsome. He is very loving and wants to snuggle, but is initially awkward about being picked up, and sticks his front legs out to the side. But he enjoys being held and presses his face against yours or into your neck. He likes his Shih Tzu foster sister, and often snuggles up with her and sometimes grooms her. Loki is very vocal, but not a barker. He’s trying to communicate, and he has different kinds of whines and his foster parents are just starting to understand what he’s trying to say. He hasn’t played much with toys, but may not have had them in his previous life. But he’s always ready to play and interact with you. Loki loves to be outside for walks and be outdoors with you. He enjoys meeting new people, but is still learning how to interact with new dogs. So his adopters will need to continue working on his walking manners. He also does not like getting wet and bath time is a challenge. Loki would do well as an only dog or with other small dogs and in a family where there is someone home most of the time or be able to take him with them. He may be a little anxious when his people aren’t around and would do best in a house where he would not be left alone for long or extended periods. He really wants to please and will be easy to train. Loki is working on his house training, and his new family must be patient and continue to take him out on a frequent, regular schedule. Loki is a very sweet boy who wants a perfect home and family. In order to ensure that, here are the requirements for his new family: 1. An active family that take him on long daily walks and make him a part of their life. 2. Because Loki is only one year old and Shih Tzus can easily live 16+ years, we will only consider age appropriate individuals who will be able to care for him for the rest of his life. 3. His family must continue to work on his house training and leash walking. Because Loki loves being outdoors, a fenced yard would be wonderful, but is not a deal breaker. 4. Loki would do well in a home with another small dog who will help him learn by being a role model and friend. However, he would also be okay as an only dog. 5. A family that works from home or is home most of the day would be ideal for Loki. 6. A family with children over the age of ten will be considered if they have experience with small dogs and know how to gently interact with them. 7. Loki will want to sleep in bed with his new family as he loves to cuddle and be close to his humans. 8. Loki’s new family should live within the 30 miles of Shoreview, MN and commit to attending the Shih Tzu Rescue Reunion held each year in September. We understand there are quite a few requirements for Loki’s new family. But if you meet the requirements, you will have abundant joy with this cute, funny, quirky boy. Loki will be neutered on July 25th. Adoption applications are being accepted and reviewed now, so that he can go to his new family shortly after his neuter. He is current on vaccinations, microchipped and on heartworm and flea/tick preventative. His adoption fee is $420.00 plus $35.81 sales tax for a total of $455.81. To meet Loki, please complete an adoption application at the website listed in the first paragraph. Or you can also see him and the other dogs available for adoption from Shih Tzu Rescue of Minnesota by visiting with us from 10:00 AM to 12:00 noon the first Saturday of every month at Petco Southtown in Bloomington.

Hi! I'm Bernard! I'm from Kentucky! From his foster: Bernard is an absolute bundle of love and joy. He has a few quirks, but wants nothing more than to love on and please his humans! Three words to describe Bernard: goofy, puppylike, adoring. His hobbies include: Zoomies across the house, diving after toys, rolling around on his back, snuggling as close to you as possible. For as much puppy-like energy as he has in the house, he prefers sniffing to running when we're on walks. His special talents: Bernard's ears flip between sticking up and flopping over! His bed manners are impeccable- he sleeps on the foot of our bed through the night. He is a quick learner who is eager to please, so positive reinforcement training has been progressing very quickly. Things Bernard's people should know: He has shown some early signs of separation anxiety. He has also shown fear reactions which indicate that he will require ongoing training for confidence building and trust building with his new family. Are you looking for a goofy sidekick who will give you every ounce of love in his body?

Meet Hershey! Purebred Shih Tzu. Hershey LOVES everyone he meets and loves kids even more and is partial to men, but still adores all he meets. He turned 1 on May 20, 2024. He gets along well with other dogs. Mostly house trained, but that can change from home to home so be prepared to work on this. He doesn’t chew on anything except his toys, but if you give him a toy with stuffing, he will tear it to pieces. He loves to sleep in the bed, but will sleep on a dog bed too. Lovessss his pup cups.

If you’re seeking a loyal and loving companion, Toro is the perfect match for you.IMPORTANT: Please read all below, especially if you live outside of Texas, which is where our rescue is located.Apply to adopt on our website: https://www.charmingpetrescue.org/adoptAll of our animals are spayed/neutered, microchipped, and up to date on shots.ALL of our animals are located in Boerne, TX, but transport after adoption is available to other states for a $300 fee for dogs or an additional fee varying by location for cats. Story
Meet Bella, a charming 10-year-old Shih Tzu with a heart full of love and a personality that's sure to steal your heart! Bella has been making great strides in her foster home, showing her potential as a loyal and loving companion. Here's a bit about Bella's journey and what makes her so special: About Bella Bella is a sweet and independent lady who enjoys the simple pleasures of life. She loves to play with her toys, often entertaining herself and bringing joy to those around her with her playful antics. Despite her age, Bella still has bursts of energy that make her run through the house with her toy, spreading laughter and happiness.  Bella is a delightful little spitfire who just wants to be with someone who understands her and loves her for who she is. She’s made significant progress in her foster home and is ready to find a forever family that will continue to help her grow and enjoy life to the fullest. If you’re looking for a devoted, fun-loving, and independent companion, Bella might be the perfect match for you! Ideal Home Bella would thrive best as an only dog or in a home with one other laid-back canine companion. She prefers a quieter household without children, as sudden movements can spook her. Bella needs a family that understands her need for space and independence but is also ready to provide the love and attention she craves. Social Skills Bella is learning to share and wait her turn, especially when it comes to treats and meals. She has shown remarkable progress in this area, though she still prefers to be the center of attention. She gets along with other dogs who respect her space, like her foster siblings Sophie and Shiloh. Bella can be playful in her own way, as seen when she eagerly awaited Gunner’s return and engaged in a spirited game of chase. House Manners Bella is a great helper around the house. She waits patiently to have her paws dried after coming inside on a wet day, ensuring the house stays clean. She spends her nights peacefully in her kennel and wakes up like a gentle alarm clock. Bella knows to use potty pads inside but is still adjusting to going outside regularly. Her foster mom is helping her with this, and Bella is making good progress. Outdoor Adventures Bella loves being outside, especially when the weather is nice. She enjoys walks and exploring her surroundings with her human. Bella tends to bark at the wind and other distractions when outside without structure, but on walks, she is more focused and enjoys the bonding time with her human. Special Traits Bella has the softest fur and the most beautiful big brown eyes that will melt your heart. She’s a cuddle bug who will follow you everywhere and seize every opportunity to snuggle by your side. Bella's bursts of playful energy and her little quirks, like her "crazy dance" when she successfully goes potty outside, add to her unique charm. ##2008779##

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Thank you for stopping by to see me!  Please fill out an application to set up  a private meeting.  Hello, I’m Dolma, a sweet yet timid and shy lady. Excuse me, is that a small child over there? Ohhh, I’m just going to scurry over here for a moment. Yes, I know toddlers are a sweet joy to many, I understand, however, not I. I won’t be aggressive around little ones, I’m not a monster, but it’s just something about their tiny bodies when they’re charging at me that gives me the heebie jeebies so I may set a boundary by showcasing some fear. I tend to have this feeling around men as well, so yes, I’m a gals gal as I adore my foster mom. Now, don’t get me wrong, I think I would most likely do fantastic, be a great addition to a large family, but maybe a home with older kids that are sensitive to understanding that I need some practice getting comfortable with them. I’ve met a few and I want to play with them so badly, but I’m still learning to trust. Treats would be a great motivator in this area as I absolutely LOVE food. Speaking of my favorite things, I’ve got some good news, you won’t have to worry about overspending on toys as I’ll play with the simplest things, like yogurt containers. I find it fun chasing them around so take note, don’t just toss out old containers! Lastly, if I promise to be a good girl while you’re away, maybe you could pick up a chew bone as a reward.  Right now, I’m still learning to walk on a leash and I’ll admit I tend to freeze, but with practice I’m sure I could adapt. Since I have had most experience with a fenced yard, I will need one in my forever home. We must also continue working on potty training but being on a consistent schedule will help. I’m great around all types of dogs, I enjoy the friendly ones the most, I do require a doggy companion in my forever home. I don’t generally tend to bark, but since I am a Lhasa Apso and was originally bred to be a royal watchdog, I will bark if I am alarmed to let you know something seems off.  As I mentioned earlier, I am a gals gal, and I will even give my foster mom’s sweater a tug if I’m not getting enough attention. Admittedly, I may not stop until I get some pets and affection! Please know that I am as sweet as I look, docile and I’m looking for someone that wants to love me as much as I already love them! I just know if we give it some time to get to know each other, we will be best friends forever. I can’t wait to meet you! Check back for updates on which events they will be attending. If an event is not listed within their bio above, the animal is not planning to attend.  Please understand that all of our pets are in volunteer foster homes and sometimes "life" happens and the foster family cannot make it to their scheduled adoption event. If you are traveling from a far distance to meet a specific animal, please understand we cannot guarantee event attendance. We recommend filling out an application and we will set up a private appointment. Private appointments are only scheduled after an application is submitted and approved. ADOPTION PROCEDURE: The first step in our process is to complete an online adoption application on our website: http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/adoptionprocess/   Note: In most circumstances Underdog Rescue will only adopt within 60 miles of Minneapolis, MN.  All of our foster animals can be seen by appointment with an approved adoption application. Contact us at http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/contact-us/ if you have further questions. FOSTER CARE: All of our animals are fostered in individual homes or doggie daycare facilities. While they are in our care, they are part of our families and given lots of love. We work on training, crate-training and socialization prior to adoption, but each bio is written by the foster as they see them, in their home. Each animal's behavior is evaluated and we have a sense of its temperament and personality, but it cannot be guaranteed. We look for adopters who will give each animal the wonderful life and permanent home that he or she deserves in time and with patience.  If you have an interest and ability to be a foster home, please visit our website  www.underdogrescuemn.com/foster-applications  and fill out a foster application. NUTRITION: Nutrition is vital to the rehabilitation and life-long health of our pets.  All of our foster animals are fed a premium diet such as NutriSource, Canidae, Orijen, Nature's Variety, Fromm, Pure Vita, Stella and Chewy's, Primal, or balanced raw diet.  All adopters are required to continue providing premium diets for the life of the animal. YOU CAN HELP: Not able to foster or adopt right now? Please consider sponsoring an Underdog. Your donation will help us buy dog food and pay for medical costs. Story
Welcome Sissy to CCPAL Rescue. She is a 3.5-year-old Papillion mix pup. She is Black and white with a with the fluffy coat much like the pure Papillion She weighs about 12 pounds. She is getting spayed next week. She lives in a home with a number of other dogs and does great. She lives with an older woman and she is very loyal to her. We are working with her on a harness and leash. She doesn’t know how to walk on leash at this time. She needs to find her forever home. The person she lived with since she was a puppy has had a change in her living conditions and the neighbor has mentioned harming the dogs. When she told us this, CCPAL stepped up for 3 of the dogs. Sissy is still in foster care at the moment. Her foster mom is working on leash and harness walking and taking her places for strangers to meet her. This group of dogs are all under-socialized but we will work hard to get them used to new things, leash walking, crate training and more. She is a wonderful breed and if you love this breed you will like any one of these pups. These dogs would make great companion dogs and love to be at home with their person. They would already be wonderful for someone who loves the breed and maybe is a person that wants a companion but doesn’t need them to be a dog you can take everywhere. These dogs would be ok around children. We like them to be 10 or older with the smaller dogs. Sissy is in CCPAL Rescue in Texas and can be adopted locally or we can work with one of the wonderful transporters to get this gorgeous dog to Washington, Portland (Oregon), Minnesota, Vermont or all along the east Coast. Her adoption fee is 400 and transport is 200. Rhode Island and Massachusetts are not states we adopt to because of the regulations imposed by these states Contact Marlene at 210-867-1769 or email to ccpalinquiries@gmail.com if you have questions.
