Story
Jackie is truly a survivor with a will to live, and hopefully many years yet to enjoy. We learned of Jackie from a firefighter who had rescued her from her home, which had burned down. She survived but her owner did not. Jackie suffered only minimal effects from the fire, related to smoke inhalation. Upon her arrival at BAARK, Jackie received a full vet check. X-rays of her chest as well as her senior bloodwork. She does have a lingering cough that is being helped by medication. The coughing is probably due to throat irritation from the smoke. Jackie is a senior Pitbull, thought to be 12-14 years old, just under 60 lbs. With all that she’s been through….losing her home, her dad, and any family she’s known…..she has been doing well, taking everything in stride and adjusting well to her new life. She has quickly come out of her shell and is doing wonderfully with other dogs in her foster home. Typical of older, larger dogs, Jackie does have osteoarthritis and notable hip dysplasia. She has received her first injection of Librela, a new injectable medication for management of pain related to osteoarthritis. She also takes oral meds and she’s moving better already! Jackie is now ready to find her forever person/family. An ideal family for Jackie is one offering a calm, relaxing environment, able to ensure she receives the medication needed to address her osteoarthritis; she is doing so well on it. Jackie would also enjoy a secure, fenced yard, and possibly senior canine friend. Jackie is up to date on all vaccinations, spayed, microchipped. Her recent blood work looked great. She is housebroken too! If you might be interested in adding Jackie to your family, please contact BAARKDogRescue@gmail.com or 847-852-0895.

Story
Chato found himself at Chicago Animal Control, abandoned by the family he had been loyal to his entire life. He was in very bad shape and appeared to be very old due to the neglect he suffered. His skin was terribly infected and hope of ever finding love and happiness had been extinguished from his eyes. We could not let this cute Pocket Pittie die without knowing the kindness of a human touch or that every day does not need to be filled with fear and mistreatment. Once pulled from Animal Control, Chato knew instantly that he was safe and life would be better….and it sure was!! Chato’s medical needs were immediately addressed, his skin issues were resolved, and his spirit slowly returned. Today, Chato is a silly little pup, recovered from his past, and looking to continue to live the happy healthy life he so deserves…..with a family of his own. Chato is just 4-5 years old, and weighs about 35lbs…..tiny for a Pitbull! He is very playful and spirited, and loves being with people. He enjoys cuddling and definitely being petted too! He takes treats gently, and sits nicely for them. He is housebroken and is eager to please! Chato is sure to make a wonderful addition to any family worthy of him!! Chato walks nicely on a leash; he does not react when he sees other dogs out and about. However, Chato does need to be an only dog; he’s not fond of sharing his home with other four-legged creatures…dogs or cats!! An ideal home for Chato is with a family with significant Pitbull experience, but having no other dogs currently ; Chato absolutely deserves to receive all the attention for himself. He’d love a fenced yard and deserves a family willing to spend time with him and include him in all family activities. Chato may enjoy the company of older children but younger children may be too much for him. Chato is fully vetted, up-to-date on all vaccinations, neutered, microchipped, and heartworm negative/on year-round heartworm prevention. A solid, verifiable vet history for all past pets is required for all adopters of BAARK Dogs. If you are interested in adding Chato to your family, please email BAARKDogRescue@gmail.com or call 847-852-0895 for an adoption application.

Story
Agnes is a very pretty, rather petite Pitbull who had a terrible life before she was rescued and taken to Chicago Animal Control. Once joining BAARK Dog Rescue, her life changed for the better; she would never suffer any abuse or neglect again. Agnes had been seen for several weeks, living in a junkyard, finding shelter under a porch and among the junk. Every once in a while she got out of the fenced area to scavenge the neighborhood for food, only to have kids throw rocks and bottles at her and try to hurt her. She was scared, alone, and starving. It took a couple of caring, compassionate rescuers a couple of weeks to capture her. She was brought to Chicago Animal Control, still very scared and totally withdrawn. We are grateful we at BAARK learned of Agnes and have been able to help her overcome such past neglect, abuse, and fear, and she’s now ready to move along to her forever home. Agnes is estimated to be 6 years old. She weighs 39 lbs. An ideal home for Agnes is with a family having Pitbull breed experience, able to provide Agnes the attention, care, and compassion she deserves, without her having to share it with other canine family members. That is, she’d do best as an only dog. She is not good with cats. Agnes would love a nice, safe and secure back yard of her own. A solid, verifiable vet history for all current and past pets is required for all adopters of BAARK Dogs. Agnes is fully vetted, up-to-date on vaccinations, spayed, and microchipped as well as heartworm negative and on year-round heartworm preventative. If you are interested in adding Agnes to your family, please contact BAARKDogRescue@gmail.com or 847-852-0895

Story
Birdie is as sweet and loving as her name might suggest. She’s a senior Pocket Pittie, estimated to be 8 – 10 years old. When Birdie joined BAARK’s Safe House this last year, it was very clear that she had spent those past years in a terribly neglectful, possibly abusive, situation. She was horribly skinny, had a terrible skin infection, and a significant mass (which was removed and determined to be benign). Birdie is a gentle, laid back girl. She loves everyone and everyone who has met her has immediately fallen in love with her. Overall Birdie is an “easy” pup but she can get nervous around other dogs. We suspect this relates to a bad experience in her past. An ideal family for Birdie is one with prior Pitbull experience, a home in which she can be the only dog, receiving all the attention!! However Birdie may be fine with a laid-back senior male, who will not challenge her or compete with her for treats and food. Birdie’s exposure to children has been limited but she really enjoys being around older children. She enjoys being outside, car rides, naps, and being with her people. Birdie is fully vetted, up-to-date on vaccinations, is heartworm negative and on year-round prevention, spayed, and microchipped. If you would like to add Birdie to your family, please contact BAARKDogRescue@org or 847-852-0895. Birdie is located in the Chicago suburbs. We adopt our dogs only locally.

Hi I'm Joey, I'm sure Jesse talked about me already, but I'm the handsome one! I was a stray with 3 other dogs in Whitewater and then we came to Lakeland. I'm a bigger boy who does walk pretty well on a leash and more or less mind my own business. I'd prefer a home without other dogs so I can soak up all the attention myself.

Hi I'm Jesse! I came in with 3 other dogs I was hanging with on the streets of Whitewater. We got to take a ride in a police car, yep all four of us together. Joey and I look pretty similar so we could be siblings, but were not talking. I'm kind of big but I do walk well on a leash and have good manners. I don't react to other dogs but I don't want to live with them either. I will make a great companion!

Story
Rescued from Chicago at a year old. Very energetic, wants to cuddle and lay with you. Training was a bit tough since he was older in the beginning but he has the fundamentals down. He has a high prey drive, so small animals like cats, rabbits, chickens, etc is not a good match. We have 2 acres and he has jumped our cow fencing chasing deer. We are estimating he’s about 6 yrs old now, he is one strong dog. We always say he’s a bull in a China shop. Now that we have a toddler whose autistic and a baby his time has been limited with us. Our schedule has been all over the place and we can’t find the time to walk him or play with him. He’s good with the children but when he’s excited he can’t control his speed and runs into the kids I.e bull in a China shop. We love him dearly but don’t have the time for him. He’s good with other dogs his size, but the dogs don’t like him. He’s like that annoying dog who doesn’t know boundaries and space. Small dogs he tramples over trying to play.

Story
Hi there, my name is Slim Jim. Or sometimes it's Bubba. Or Bubby. Or Slimbo. Or Rambo. I have a lot of names. My foster family says I have a big heart, big smarts, and big farts!  I have a big heart because I love lots of stuff, like making new human friends and CAR RIDES. Seriously I have no sense of stranger danger and will try to jump in anyone's car for a ride. I love a good chew treat and cheeseburgers. I love my blankie and sleeping all snuggled up in my crate, so will you please tuck me in every night? I love snuggles and giving kisses, but maybe bigger kids would be best for me because I REALLY get into the snuggles and don't want to accidentally knock a tiny human down. I do NOT love the cold or rainy weather, but I love dressing up in my sweaters and jackets to stay warm! I love butt scratches, tummy rubs, all kinds of adventures, and learning new things.    Speaking of learning new things, I have big smarts in this big noggin of mine! I pick up on new tricks super fast and already know how to sit, lay down, shake, wait, back (to sit in the back seat of the car), cross (the street), and turn left (I'm working on 'right'). I am great at food puzzles, and especially love my snuffle mat. I am crate trained and super polite on my leash when we're out for walks. I even know how to use agility equipment and am learning how to use a doggy treadmill. My recent record is 13 MPH!   My big farts are not so bad if I use a puzzle feeder, because then I don't eat so fast. It's this stubby, snorty nose of mine, I can't help but take in extra air.   There are a few things I don't love, mostly kitties (I want to eat them) and other dogs (they scare me). I take a cheap, daily anxiety medication (cost is under $10/mo) which helps me be more comfortable and my foster family has done a TON of training with me. They are sponsoring a private training session for whoever adopts me, to set me up for success in my new home!    Also, because I have such big smarts I take some things as a personal challenge. Crates and fences, for example. I think they are puzzles to be solved! I need a beefier crate than most dogs and a solid plan to keep me in the yard if I'm off-leash, because if that fence isn't solid like Mount Everest I am outtie! But I don't chew on or damage things in the house, don't worry about that.    I've been waiting for a home of my very own for far too long! So if you're looking for a Very Good Boy who you can have a lot of fun with, please reach out and ask for me, Slim Jim aka Bubba aka Bubby aka Slimbo aka Rambo.         Approximate DOB: 2021 Foster Home Location: Madison    If you are interested in adopting one of our wonderful dogs, you can apply on our website: https://forms.gle/MGakwmFh92UiK9iM6     Please allow several days for us to process your application. We are a small, all-volunteer group and we are doing our best to work quickly! After the application is processed we will make arrangements for you to meet the dog that interest you. All of our dogs are raised in our homes and live with us until they are adopted. They live with us as part of our families so we know them very well and we can help you find your perfect dog!     Our adoption fees:  Adults (up to 7 years): $275 Seniors (8 years and up): $200     All dogs are spayed or neutered, dewormed, vaccinated for rabies, bordatella and distemper, tested for heartworm and microchipped.February 25, 2024, 3:22 pm

Story
Meet Tika! Hello there, my name is Tika! I'm a senior lady now, weighing 55 pounds. Much like the meaning of my name, sun maiden, or flower, I am as beautiful as they come. And pretty perfect if I do say so myself! I'm good with all dogs, big or small, and I'd likely do well with kids, too. But cats, well, I'll just say "no thank you" about them. I'm the very best girl and go potty outside. I'd love having a fenced yard to run in, but I also am fine with walks and going to the dog park! I love my humans, and since I was always a loved member of a family until my owner passed away, I can't wait to be a part of a family again! I love being with my foster mom, but she says that I'm ready to move on to a forever family of my own. I live in an apartment here, and I don't make a single peep, but I'd really love to live in a house with more room. I love to snuggle with my people, but I also really enjoy my crate! Sometimes, I'm hesitant to jump on the furniture, so I may need a little encouragement or even a little boost up by you to watch a good episode of FRIENDS. That's what we will be forever! The best of friends. And if you have another doggo that I can be friends with, well, that's just an added bonus! *Tika will be traveling to WI on March 3rd and can go to her forever home then. Story
Alpine is sure a unique-looking young boy; he is thought to possibly be a mix of Jack Russell, Rat Terrier, Bull Terrier?? However he’s on the larger size, for being a Jack Russel or Rat Terrier mix!! We believe that Alpine’s full, adult weight will be around 50 lbs. It is most important to note that we do not know just how big Alpine will become as an adult…his new family must be willing to accept him, no matter what his adult size! Alpine’s estimated date of birth is June 5th 2023. He’s a typical puppy, very energetic and playful. He likes to jump and can sometimes forget himself and be a little too rough with other dogs. But….…he is young and needs to learn boundaries and manners in order to evolve into a wonder family member with a forever family he so deserves.. Alpine likes playing with other dogs; he’s great with dogs and would enjoy the companionship of another dog in the home. Most likely, a young or middle-aged adult dog would prefer his company more so than a senior dog. An ideal family for Alpine is one able to assimilate the enthusiasm and playfulness of a puppy into their lifestyle and is willing to commit the time to working with and training Alpine to be his best self! A secure fenced yard is required; another younger or middle-aged pup in the family could also be advantageous. Alpine is crate-trained and is working hard to improve his house manners (housebreaking). He is up to date on all age-appropriate vaccinations, is on heartworm preventative and is microchipped. His neuter is included in his adoption fee. For information about adding this adorable boy to your family please contact BAARKDogRescue@gmail.com or 847-852-0895. Note that BAARK is located in Barrington and adopts primarily within the Northwestern Suburbs of Chicagoland.

Story
Brucie is a very handsome, young boy looking for a forever home of his own. We believe he is a Boxer mix, sporting a very attractive brindle coat. We estimate Brucie’s date of birth at February 10, 2021. At the time of this posting he is just under two years old. He is about 60 lbs. Brucie loves people and is very affectionate. Given his size and energy level, he would not be an ideal canine companion for younger children. We expect children over the age of 12 would be ok. And of course, an all-adult home would be perfect for Brucie! Brucie is very active and energetic, and sometimes can get carried away with his play. He loves running in the secure, fenced yard of his foster home. He keeps himself entertained; he would not do well in a dog park or day care. An ideal home for Brucie is one in which he can thrive as an only dog, with a family experienced with larger dogs who sometimes can get out of hand. Brucie’s only “watch-out” is that he can be a bit of a resource guarder with his food and bones, but this issue can readily be managed as he gets to know his new family and as they learn more about him!! As is the case with all young, larger dogs, Brucie would greatly benefit from obedience training which can also be a bonding experience with his new family. No doubt, Brucie has the potential to evolve into the perfect pup, but is looking for that family willing to commit to him and provide him the forever home he deserves. Brucie is fully vetted, up to date on all vaccinations, neutered & microchipped and on year-round heartworm prevention. BAARK is located in the Chicago area; we adopt our dogs only local to the Chicago area. If you are interested in adding Brucie to your family, please contact BAARKDogRescue@gmail.com or 847-852-0895.

Bear is a very handsome, young boy looking for a forever home of his own. We believe he is a Boxer mix, sporting a very attractive dark brindle coat. We estimate Bear’s date of birth at February 10, 2021. At the time of this posting he is just under two years old. He is about 60 lbs. Bear loves people and he also loves eating almost anything. He is not so much a chewer, as a dog who likes to eat rocks, sticks, toys. As such, his new family will need to be vigilant to ensure Bear does not get himself into trouble, ingesting non-food items! Bear is active and energetic, typical of a big, young dog, and sometimes can get carried away with his play. He loves running in the secure, fenced yard of his foster home. He keeps himself entertained (but, watch out for him eating rocks, sticks, etc!!); he would not do well in a dog park or day care. We suggest he be an only dog. Given his size and energy level, Bear would not be an ideal canine companion for younger children. We expect children over the age of 12 would be ok. And of course, an all-adult home would be perfect for Bear! An ideal home for Bear is one in which he can thrive as an only dog, with a family experienced with larger dogs who sometimes can get out of hand. The family will also need to be vigilant when it comes to Bear’s tendency to seek out interesting things to eat. As is the case with all young, larger dogs, Bear would greatly benefit from obedience training which can also be a bonding experience with his new family.
