Story
Capone, affectionately known as “Cappy,” is a 4-year-old, beautiful brindle boy with a story that tugs at the heartstrings. For over 1,175 days, he has waited in shelter and foster care, longing for a family to call his own. He spent 18 months at Winnebago County Animal Control and has now been with Second City Canine Rescue for 638 days—one of the longest foster stays in SCCR history.Cappy was once adopted, but through no fault of his own, he was returned due to the adopters’ unforeseen circumstances. Despite this setback, he remained a shining light at the shelter, where he helped staff evaluate other animals, showcasing his gentle spirit and intelligence. In his foster home, Cappy has proven just how special he is. He’s mastered commands like “sit,” “fetch,” “touch,” “down,” and “paw,” and he delights in giving kisses to everyone he meets. He has a soft spot for children, and he is one of the best cuddlers around. While he isn’t overly energetic and doesn’t require daily walks, he dreams of a home with a fenced yard where he can play fetch to his heart`s content.Cappy is incredibly treat-motivated, making him an eager learner for any additional training you wish to pursue. He’s fully house-trained and doesn’t need to be crated when his family is away—he just wants to be loved and included.Cappy deserves a family who will cherish him, spoil him, and provide him the love he has so desperately waited for. Every day that passes without a forever home feels like an eternity for this sweet boy. If you’re ready to open your heart and home, Cappy is ready to give you unconditional love in return. Will you be the family he’s been waiting so long for?Interested in adopting this dog? Story
Coal is a 4-year-old Pit Bull with the energy of burning charcoal, always fired up for play and adventure. He`s an avid frisbee enthusiast and carries his favorite red disc with him everywhere he goes. He loves going on long walks and playing fetch at the park, or getting a drink at the water fountain. When he`s not chasing frisbees or going for walks, Coal loves to relax in the sun. He`ll often be found sunbathing in the yard, soaking up the rays. While Coal loves to play and run, he also knows how to relax. He`s a gentle giant who loves to snuggle on the couch. He makes for a great heater when these fall days start to get chilly! He`s been great with other dogs, including the resident senior male pit mix and a young female basset hound. He`s especially fond of playing tug-of-war and chase with his foster sister. This handsome boy is eager to please and has mastered a variety of commands and tricks, including sit, down, heel, off, paw, place, settle, and speak, especially when there`s peanut butter involved. He`s also crate trained and enjoys his nightly wind-downs in his cozy crate.Coal is a people-pleaser, but his enthusiasm can sometimes get the best of him. We think he`d do best with older kids who can handle his playful energy. He`s looking for an active family who can provide him with plenty of exercise and love.Interested in adopting this dog? Pit Bull Terrier Mixed Breed (Medium)

Story
Chato found himself at Chicago Animal Control, abandoned by the family he had been loyal to his entire life. He was in very bad shape and appeared to be very old due to the neglect he suffered. His skin was terribly infected and hope of ever finding love and happiness had been extinguished from his eyes. We could not let this cute Pocket Pittie die without knowing the kindness of a human touch or that every day does not need to be filled with fear and mistreatment. Once pulled from Animal Control, Chato knew instantly that he was safe and life would be better….and it sure was!! Chato’s medical needs were immediately addressed, his skin issues were resolved, and his spirit slowly returned. Today, Chato is a silly little pup, recovered from his past, and looking to continue to live the happy healthy life he so deserves…..with a family of his own. Chato is just 4-5 years old, and weighs about 35lbs…..tiny for a Pitbull! He is very playful and spirited, and loves being with people. He enjoys cuddling and definitely being petted too! He takes treats gently, and sits nicely for them. He is housebroken and is eager to please! Chato is sure to make a wonderful addition to any family worthy of him!! Chato walks nicely on a leash; he does not react when he sees other dogs out and about. However, Chato does need to be an only dog; he’s not fond of sharing his home with other four-legged creatures…dogs or cats!! An ideal home for Chato is with a family with significant Pitbull experience, but having no other dogs currently ; Chato absolutely deserves to receive all the attention for himself. He’d love a fenced yard and deserves a family willing to spend time with him and include him in all family activities. Chato may enjoy the company of older children but younger children may be too much for him. Chato is fully vetted, up-to-date on all vaccinations, neutered, microchipped, and heartworm negative/on year-round heartworm prevention. A solid, verifiable vet history for all past pets is required for all adopters of BAARK Dogs. If you are interested in adding Chato to your family, please email BAARKDogRescue@gmail.com or call 847-852-0895 for an adoption application.

Story
Agnes is a very pretty, rather petite Pitbull who had a terrible life before she was rescued and taken to Chicago Animal Control. Once joining BAARK Dog Rescue, her life changed for the better; she would never suffer any abuse or neglect again. Agnes had been seen for several weeks, living in a junkyard, finding shelter under a porch and among the junk. Every once in a while she got out of the fenced area to scavenge the neighborhood for food, only to have kids throw rocks and bottles at her and try to hurt her. She was scared, alone, and starving. It took a couple of caring, compassionate rescuers a couple of weeks to capture her. She was brought to Chicago Animal Control, still very scared and totally withdrawn. We are grateful we at BAARK learned of Agnes and have been able to help her overcome such past neglect, abuse, and fear, and she’s now ready to move along to her forever home. Agnes is estimated to be 6 years old. She weighs 39 lbs. An ideal home for Agnes is with a family having Pitbull breed experience, able to provide Agnes the attention, care, and compassion she deserves, without her having to share it with other canine family members. That is, she’d do best as an only dog. She is not good with cats. Agnes would love a nice, safe and secure back yard of her own. A solid, verifiable vet history for all current and past pets is required for all adopters of BAARK Dogs. Agnes is fully vetted, up-to-date on vaccinations, spayed, and microchipped as well as heartworm negative and on year-round heartworm preventative. If you are interested in adding Agnes to your family, please contact BAARKDogRescue@gmail.com or 847-852-0895

Story
Birdie is as sweet and loving as her name might suggest. She’s a senior Pocket Pittie, estimated to be 8 – 10 years old. When Birdie joined BAARK’s Safe House this last year, it was very clear that she had spent those past years in a terribly neglectful, possibly abusive, situation. She was horribly skinny, had a terrible skin infection, and a significant mass (which was removed and determined to be benign). Birdie is a gentle, laid back girl. She loves everyone and everyone who has met her has immediately fallen in love with her. Overall Birdie is an “easy” pup but she can get nervous around other dogs. We suspect this relates to a bad experience in her past. An ideal family for Birdie is one with prior Pitbull experience, a home in which she can be the only dog, receiving all the attention!! However Birdie may be fine with a laid-back senior male, who will not challenge her or compete with her for treats and food. Birdie’s exposure to children has been limited but she really enjoys being around older children. She enjoys being outside, car rides, naps, and being with her people. Birdie is fully vetted, up-to-date on vaccinations, is heartworm negative and on year-round prevention, spayed, and microchipped. If you would like to add Birdie to your family, please contact BAARKDogRescue@org or 847-852-0895. Birdie is located in the Chicago suburbs. We adopt our dogs only locally.

Story
Our sweet Sasha girl was rescued from life on a heavy chain hooked to a trash can that was her ONLY shelter. She was abused and almost bred to death. When Tails took her and her babies in she was barely hanging on, she was a skeleton and was so weak she could barely lift her head. After several medications, fluids and a miracle she made a full turn around and she has thanked us daily for rescuing her. Love just radiates from her eyes and she is SO gentle with people. She is very well mannered, leash and crate trained. She potty’s outside if shes on a schedule. Sasha would thrive in a calm home with children over the age of 12 as loud rambunctious kids may trigger her. If you’re interested in adopting OR fostering Sasha please find us on FB or our website at tailsoftheforgottenpaws.org and fill out an application!

Story
Bear is a very handsome, young boy looking for a forever home of his own. We believe he is a Boxer mix, sporting a very attractive dark brindle coat. We estimate Bear’s date of birth at February 10, 2021. At the time of this posting he is just under two years old. He is about 60 lbs. Bear loves people and he also loves eating almost anything. He is not so much a chewer, as a dog who likes to eat rocks, sticks, toys. As such, his new family will need to be vigilant to ensure Bear does not get himself into trouble, ingesting non-food items! Bear is active and energetic, typical of a big, young dog, and sometimes can get carried away with his play. He loves running in the secure, fenced yard of his foster home. He keeps himself entertained (but, watch out for him eating rocks, sticks, etc!!); he would not do well in a dog park or day care. We suggest he be an only dog. Given his size and energy level, Bear would not be an ideal canine companion for younger children. We expect children over the age of 12 would be ok. And of course, an all-adult home would be perfect for Bear! An ideal home for Bear is one in which he can thrive as an only dog, with a family experienced with larger dogs who sometimes can get out of hand. The family will also need to be vigilant when it comes to Bear’s tendency to seek out interesting things to eat. As is the case with all young, larger dogs, Bear would greatly benefit from obedience training which can also be a bonding experience with his new family. No doubt, Bear has the potential to evolve into the perfect pup, but is looking for that family willing to commit to him and provide him the forever home he deserves. Bear is fully vetted, up to date on all vaccinations, neutered & microchipped and on year-round heartworm prevention. To learn how you can add this handsome young boy to your family, please contact BAARKDogRescue@gmail.com or 847-852-0895. BAARK is located in the Chicago area and adopt our dogs only local to the area.
