Meet Gene: A Lovable Mix of Loyalty and Joy 🖤🐾 Gene is a 7–8 year old Pit Bull/Labrador mix with a heart as big as his second chance. This short and stocky sweetheart weighs about 48 lbs and recently joined BAARK Dog Rescue from Central Illinois—just hours before he was scheduled to be euthanized. Thankfully, Gene hopped on transport and landed safely in our care, ready to start his new chapter. 🧬 Breed Blend of Brilliance: Gene’s Pit Bull side gives him that signature loyalty and playful energy, while his Labrador traits shine through in his gentle nature and love for people. He’s lived a tough, neglectful life, which may make him look a bit older—but don’t let that fool you. He’s agile, happy, and full of life. 🐶 Social & Sweet: - Loves everyone he meets—humans and dogs alike - Gentle and playful with kind children (best with older kids) - Housebroken and well-mannered indoors - Walks beautifully on leash - Not a fan of crates, but an excellent passenger on car rides (his favorite!) Gene prefers lounging inside with occasional walks over spending time in a yard—possibly a reflection of his past life spent outdoors. Story
Agnes is a very pretty, rather petite Pitbull who had a terrible life before she was rescued and taken to Chicago Animal Control. Once joining BAARK Dog Rescue, her life changed for the better; she would never suffer any abuse or neglect again. Agnes had been seen for several weeks, living in a junkyard, finding shelter under a porch and among the junk. Every once in a while she got out of the fenced area to scavenge the neighborhood for food, only to have kids throw rocks and bottles at her and try to hurt her. She was scared, alone, and starving. It took a couple of caring, compassionate rescuers a couple of weeks to capture her. She was brought to Chicago Animal Control, still very scared and totally withdrawn. We are grateful we at BAARK learned of Agnes and have been able to help her overcome such past neglect, abuse, and fear, and she’s now ready to move along to her forever home. Agnes is estimated to be 6 years old. She weighs 39 lbs. An ideal home for Agnes is with a family having Pitbull breed experience, able to provide Agnes the attention, care, and compassion she deserves, without her having to share it with other canine family members. That is, she’d do best as an only dog. She is not good with cats. Agnes would love a nice, safe and secure back yard of her own. A solid, verifiable vet history for all current and past pets is required for all adopters of BAARK Dogs. Agnes is fully vetted, up-to-date on vaccinations, spayed, and microchipped as well as heartworm negative and on year-round heartworm preventative. Meet Harrison Ford! This handsome boy never stops smiling. If you are looking for a highly intelligent companion with a big heart to always make you laugh, Harrison is the goofy guy for you! Harrison loves nothing more than spending time with people. Some of his favorite activities are sunbathing (absolute favorite), playing monkey-in-the-middle (only if he’s in the middle), smart toys, watching human reality TV, and his favorite snack is blueberries.  He is looking for a forever home where he can be the only dog and a family that can manage a recently diagnosed autoimmune condition; he currently requires medication for it. Harrison has been in foster care at Reach Rescue since he was a 4 month old puppy and is holding out hope that someone out there is willing to take a chance on him! He has the biggest heart to give in return. Jasmine is a beautiful, shy girl who is already spayed, crate trained, and working on her potty training. She is good with other dogs and may even do well with cats. While she wants to play with canine friends, she’s still learning how to feel confident around them. Jasmine is very timid at first and can seem almost frozen in new situations. She needs a few days to warm up, but once she feels safe, her affectionate side blossoms. She absolutely loves attention—sometimes a little too much—and is currently working on building independence so she can feel secure even when she’s not being doted on. She does not appreciate strangers invading her space and needs someone who will respect her boundaries while helping her learn to trust. With patience, consistency, and gentle guidance, this sweet girl will continue coming out of her shell. Jasmine will thrive in a home with an adopter who has some experience with shy or anxious dogs or someone willing to learn. She’s eager for love, structure, and reassurance—and with the right person, she has the potential to become a truly devoted companion.
