FERN Available for Foster  We are currently looking for a month long foster! Hello everyone! I'm Fern, charming canine observer with a heart as big as my curious eyes. Although my journey started as a stray, I was fortunate enough to be picked up by Chicago Animal Care and Control. Then…I clearly won the hearts of the C.A.R.E. Kennel Captain team with my joyful, goofy smile.  I am a delightful girl who finds pure joy in the simple pleasures of life. Whether perched on a bench, a cozy couch, or even a wall, my favorite pastime is watching the world unfold before me. True to my unique personality, I prefer leisurely strolls, especially when accompanied by a trusted human companion. However, my true love lies in cozying up near the kitchen counter, eagerly awaiting any opportunity for a tasty treat! Kindness, respect and treats are the key to my heart. Beyond my endearing qualities, some of my favorite pastimes include:  indulging in a relaxing bath, gleefully pulling apart soft toys (without swallowing, of course!), helping to clean any dish or container in sight, and going on thrilling adventures (like car rides or Boslys). In my ideal home, tranquility reigns supreme. I would thrive as your one and only furry companion in a quiet atmosphere where I can fully unwind. I have learned a lot in my time with C.A.R.E…. I know many tricks and want to show you. I need a forever human who will keep my education going. So, if you're seeking a loyal companion who delights in life's small wonders and brings joy wherever she goes, look no further than me! With my infectious spirit and heartwarming  personality, I would hope to steal your heart from the moment you meet me. I have been spayed and microchipped and have had a full veterinary checkup and vaccines. My adoption fee is $325. For more information or if you would like to meet me, please fill out a foster survey at carenorthshore.org/dog-foster-survey Love and licks,  FernJuly 25, 2024, 9:50 pm

HENRY Available for adoption. FAST FACTSMale, Medium Mixed breed, 52 pounds, 1 1/2 years oldFriendly, Affectionate, Gentle, Eager to PleaseModerately ActivePeople FriendlyDog FriendlyNo CatsKids over 6 years oldPotty TrainedCrate Trained Greetings from your friend Henry. When CARE rescued me from Chicago Care and Animal Control, where I was brought in as a stray, I was one sick puppy. Thin, weak, and suffering from pneumonia, I received the best medical treatment and then was nursed back to health by my wonderful foster mom. Now that I’m ready to find my forever home, let me tell you a bit about myself. My foster mom describes me as a real people lover. My #1 activity is hanging around and schmoozing with humans, but I’m also good at entertaining myself. Indoors, I enjoy chewing on peanut butter-stuffed Nylabones and getting treats out of my orange roller ball. Another of myfavorite pastimes is watching the birds and squirrels from the living room window—although chasing them around fenced-in backyard is even more fun. I’m a very smart boy who already knows several commands, including come, sit, down, stand, and touch. I always signal when I need to go outside to do my business, wait patiently while my harness or Halti headcollar (both stop me from pulling on the leash) is put on, and sit when I come back in to have my feet wiped off. I reluctantly go in my crate when asked, but I don’t really need it. Just tell me “bed” or “rug,” and I’ll go there and settle. Although my leash skills are improving, I can still be reactive to other dogs (it’s unclear whether I interested in playing or just don’t want them in my space). So I’ll need a confident handler to commit to continuing working with me in this area. Finally, I initially had some digestive issues, but these have pretty much disappeared thanks to a specific and consistent diet. Summing up, I’m a gentle, loving, big-hearted guy who dreams of being your best canine companion through all of life’s adventures. Are you ready to team up? Then please fill out an adoption application right away, because I can’t wait to meet you!   I have been microchipped and will be neutered and have had a full veterinary checkup and vaccines. My adoption fee is $325. For more information or if you would like to meet me, please fill out an adoption survey at carenorthshore.org/dog-adoption-survey Love and licks, HenryJuly 25, 2024, 9:50 pm

Story
Carmen is a very sweet and friendly, five-year-old, 55-pound female terrier-mix with a cropped tail looking for a loving guardian. Carmen is full of nub wiggles and kisses for everyone she meets. She would be best in home without other pets but would love to snuggle with you! Carmen would do best in her own back yard hangin' with her peeps. She knows the command sit and takes treats very gently from your fingers. Carmen is crate-trained and appears to be housebroken. She was rescued by Lucky Dog Rescue from a Southern Illinois shelter and brought to Chicago to find a loving. To meet and possibly adopt Carmen, please contact Melia at melia88@comcast.net for an adoption application. Her adoption fee of $200 benefits the rescued dogs of Lucky Dog Rescue. This exuberant lab/bully breed mix is the ultimate adventure buddy. He's like a walking party-wherever he goes, the fun follows! Zuko can't wait to join you for all the fun and excitement that life has to offer!Zuko can easily be startled by people that come up and surprise him. Our team is supporting him through training and management! Zuko wears a muzzle while out and about. This tool allows him the freedom to safely explore outdoors and enjoy new situations!Zuko knows a lot of fancy tricks! Not only is he well rounded in his basic obedience and is thoroughly house broken and crate trained, he has a strong recall, knows ‘stand', ‘spin', ‘paw', ‘heel', ‘ leave it' and extended ‘stay' until he's given the ‘come' command, as well as a modified ‘rollover' and our personal favorite 'sit pretty'. That said, once he's burned off some energy he is quick to lay down on a cool floor or at your feet on the couch. At his foster, he sleeps in his own dog bed and does not jump into the human bed at all. He does well in a fenced yard where he can safely roam but mainly prefers to sunbathe. He likes to follow you around and give a little boop snoot so you know he's there. His fosters say he's smart, energetic and loving, apply to make this wonderful boy your yours!Rescued from a shelter in Arkansas where he was found as a stray, Zuko is now on the lookout for his forever home. He's longing for an active family who can keep up with his zest for life and provide him with plenty of playtime, exercise, and, most importantly, love. With Zuko around, every day is an opportunity for excitement and laughter. He sees the world as one big playground and is determined to make the most of every moment. If you're in need of a best pal who's as fun-loving and outgoing as they come, then Zuko is the perfect match for you!Zuko's adoption fee is sponsored by his amazing foster family. ** Rocky Road is available for foster or adoption! We'd love to get him out of the busy shelter and into a home environment. Email applications@chicagocaninerescue.org to set up a meet + greet! **Just like the classic ice cream flavor, Rocky Road is sweet as can be! He is a young beefcake who wants nothing more than to wiggle up to you and snuggle! He just LOVES people. His favorite games to play are fetch and tug. Seriously, he could play all day. He does vocalize when excited about playing!Rocky Road is a solo act - he prefers to be the only pet in the household. But don't worry, he's all the dog you'll ever need! He loves nothing more than a good game of tug-of-war or chasing his favorite toys around the yard. After a fun-filled day, Rocky Road enjoys nothing more than snoozing on the couch, snuggled up next to his favorite human.Again, Rocky just isn't a dog park kinda guy! He'd prefer to take a leashed walk with his human, or to have his own yard! He's a big guy, so he does need a handler who is comfortable with a boisterous big dog. Rocky does require some management and advocacy. That just means he may need some guidance and time to decompress through transitions!Rocky Road came to us from Chicago Animal Care and Control back in 2022. At that time, he appeared to have a bad case of fleas which was causing some spotty hair loss! Since starting monthly preventatives-- it has grown back nicely and he is thriving! With his boundless energy and love for long walks, Rocky Road will keep you entertained for hours. If you're looking for a loyal companion who's eager to learn and ready to love, then Rocky Road is your guy! Contact us today to make him a part of your family!** Submit your foster or adoption application at ChicagoCanineRescue.org! **Rocky's annual care has been generously donated by his guardian Angel - David S.
