*** To alleviate the need to bring an animal into the shelter environment, The Anti-Cruelty Society has the Home-to-Home Shelter Bypass service to help people find new accommodations for their pets privately. These animals are not located in any of the Society`s physical locations. If you are interested in adopting this animal, please do NOT click the Adopt Me button and instead reach out to the current owner directly via the email provided in the profile. As this is a Home-to-Home animal you are not required to fill out an Anti-Cruelty Society adoption application form. *** Ambrosia was adopted from the CACC in Chicago appx 5 years ago and she was about 3-4 then. She was playing with this huge dog bigger than her having a great day and I just saw her and fell in love. Ambrosia comes from a previously abusive environment. When I adopted her it took a lot of trust. To pet her she needs to see your hand first and maybe let her come to you for the first few weeks. She doesn`t like walking through tight spaces or walkways/hallways that she cant see a straight path down. She doesn`t like things like brooms or anything blocking her path. She is house potty trained with a new home she may need some basic training again for new routine. She likes being outside, laying in the sun and she enjoys her alone time. She`s older so play time is not a long, long time with her compared to BabyBoy. She is extremely loving just remember she has come from an abusive past so yelling loud noises sometimes scare her especially fireworks. She does not like being left alone in a car for any long period of time like past 5-10 mins. She is ok with road trips for hours. She does not really get along with dogs that are smaller than her because of the sound of their bark. She gets along with most other dogs as long as she feels comfortable . Show her your hand and sit with her for a while and you will earn her love and respect very fast. She likes treats. Her teeth I`m working on getting cleaned. She does not like showers but she will deal with them. I take her to Pet`smart for nail grinding NOT cut. Her nails are clear and most groomers cut her too close to her blood vessels so just a normal grind and she may need to be muzzled for that part so please inform the groomer and inform them of the hand first before petting. She doesn`t like cats. She knows how to play and lick hands and not bite she does sometimes have to be told no biting and she will know to look for your hand to

Meet Jake! Jake from state farm? No! Jake from Anti Cruelty! This handsome man has quickly stolen the hearts of our staff. As our resident cuddlebug, Jake loves to lean on people and politely ask for pets and especially neck massages. Jake is convinced he`s a lapdog and will freely climb up on his favorite people because he can never be close enough! We don`t know a whole lot about Jake`s past, but he came to Anti Cruelty in pretty rough shape. Despite his troubled past, Jake has not let that interfere with his loving personality. Jake is a perfect gentleman and walks very politely on the leash. He`s a quiet soul and is always on his best behavior. Come visit this heartthrob today!

Greedo is a super easy going, quiet, low maintenance dog who loves finding a perfect position for a nap, cuddling with us on the couch, or running after a tennis ball! He never barks and is super chill and loving. He is very friendly and loves all people. He has not done the best with other dogs, so would most likely benefit from being the only dog in a household. We cannot rave enough about how easy going and loving Greedo is!

She loves all people and would thrive in a home with a couple or family. She is medium energy, spayed, fully vaccinated, 45 pounds and 4 years old!She adores being outside on walks or chasing her ball (her tail won’t stop wagging), but she also is content snoozing on a couch and following her human around the house. She is very house trained and non-destructive. Not cat (or squirrel) friendly but is a mega love bug to anyone else in her life. She really thrives mostly off human attention! She would do best in a home with two or more people, so that she has people to hang out with. Minnie came to me at 36 pounds with pneumonia and several wounds on her head. She clearly has had a rough life, but she has blossomed into a healthy, loving dog. Other than some anxiety, she now does not have any health issues. She has also done a lot of positive reinforcement work with a personal trainer, and she would love to continue that with someone else. She will make someone very happy! Please reach out to mclowse@gmail.com for more information.

Gets along with our other dog half the other time, half the time his energy annoys her (she`s a very particular pittie cattle dog). But, at dog parks, and with friends/family dogs, he plays and gets along great with them. The animal`s behavior around children; he`s very confused by toddlers and seems scared. I wouldn`t recommend him in a home with a child under 5. Not aggressive, I just don`t think he understands little kids, and doesn`t know how to be careful around babies. Any past or existing health issues that the animal has had; He`s battled Immune Mediated Thrombocytopenia (a platelet disorder.) The good news, is he is doing much better and has been off of steroids for months. He is now only on 50 mg of Atopica a day. He is definitely on his way to a recovery but while in treatment, the vet did not recommend he gets his lepto/distemper vaccines. He was just approved for his rabies vaccine and got it this December (last week!) His next appointment to see if we can cut his meds in half again, is scheduled for March 2025. He may even get approved for his other vaccines at that time. Any medication the animal may currently be taking; Atopica, 50 mg once daily he takes with a spoonful of peanut butter Any dietary restrictions that the animal may have; I highly recommend the food I currently feed him because his digestion is perfect and no allergies from it: Natural Balance® Limited Ingredient Dry Dog Food, Salmon & Brown Rice RecipeThe animal`s training history (especially whether or not the animal is housebroken); he is housebroken and crate trained (sleep and when we go to work) and had a few basic training lessons (sit, lay, stay, leash walking). Story
Introducing Dora! This shy girlie was brought to the shelter when her family became overwhelmed with too many pets to care for. Dora is one of our Special Care animals, meaning she will need some extra love and care once adopted. Dora is currently on behavior medication to manage her stress and fear of new environments. The shelter can be a loud and scary place for a young girl going through so many changes. Dora is fearful in the shelter and could use a quiet place to come out of her shell. She eventually became affectionate with staff - crawling into our laps for comfort. Most recently, in her foster home, she has been thriving and showed her playful side! Dora needs some time and space in a home environment to allow her personality to come out. We can`t wait to see her start acting like a real dog. If you have a quiet home and a heart full of love and patience, please apply to meet Dora!

Story
Rocky is a sweet, affectionate bulldog who loves people, attention, and relaxing with a bone. He is house-trained, crate-trained, and up to date on vet care. He wants nothing more than to be someone’s best buddy. Snuggles and food are his two fav things followed closely by toys. Rocky has shown repeated aggression toward the other dog in my home, triggered by jealousy and competition for attention. The most recent incident resulted in injury to my other dog, and for safety reasons, he can no longer stay in a multi-dog home. Rocky has played with other dogs successfully many times but if his jealousy get triggered he will act out. Rocky needs: 1) To be the only dog in the home (no other pets) 2)An experienced owner, ideally familiar with bulldogs or behavior 3) A calm, structured environment; older kids or adults only 4) all the love and cuddles
