Story
Hi, I'm Poppy. Thanks for taking a look at me! I know my cute face is irresistible, but remember that I will take up lots of your time and attention while I grow into an awesome adult dog. Socialization, training (including house training), and exercise are just a few of the things I will look to you for. Chewing, teething, and learning what is Okay and not Okay to put in my mouth are all part of the puppy experience. And, be prepared for the time and money for frequent trips to the vet during the first few months so I can get up to date on my boosters and vaccines. But most of all, be prepared for all of the LOVE, puppy kisses, and joy I will bring into your life. If you are up for the challenge and the fun, stop in and meet my cute self in person during our adoption hours. For more information, email bloomingdale@ahconnects.org or call us at 847-697-2880 x: 90, and the staff will be happy to help you. Our dogs and puppies go home spayed/neutered, microchipped, heartworm tested (7 months and over), and up to date on core vaccines, heartworm, flea, and tick preventatives. Their adoption also includes a free-vet exam at one of our participating veterinarians.

Hi I'm Gibler! I came in from Whitewater with Jesse, Joey, and DJ. I'm pretty easy going and love attention. I love my walks and mind my own business for the most part. Boy dogs are ok but pushy female dogs I don't care for.

Hi I'm Joey, I'm sure Jesse talked about me already, but I'm the handsome one! I was a stray with 3 other dogs in Whitewater and then we came to Lakeland. I'm a bigger boy who does walk pretty well on a leash and more or less mind my own business. I'd prefer a home without other dogs so I can soak up all the attention myself.

Story
Hi I'm Jesse! I came in with 3 other dogs I was hanging with on the streets of Whitewater. We got to take a ride in a police car, yep all four of us together. Joey and I look pretty similar so we could be siblings, but were not talking. I'm kind of big but I do walk well on a leash and have good manners. I don't react to other dogs but I don't want to live with them either. I will make a great companion!

Story
Jackie is truly a survivor with a will to live, and hopefully many years yet to enjoy. We learned of Jackie from a firefighter who had rescued her from her home, which had burned down. She survived but her owner did not. Jackie suffered only minimal effects from the fire, related to smoke inhalation. Upon her arrival at BAARK, Jackie received a full vet check. X-rays of her chest as well as her senior bloodwork. She does have a lingering cough that is being helped by medication. The coughing is probably due to throat irritation from the smoke. Jackie is a senior Pitbull, thought to be 12-14 years old, just under 60 lbs. With all that she’s been through….losing her home, her dad, and any family she’s known…..she has been doing well, taking everything in stride and adjusting well to her new life. She has quickly come out of her shell and is doing wonderfully with other dogs in her foster home. Typical of older, larger dogs, Jackie does have osteoarthritis and notable hip dysplasia. She has received her first injection of Librela, a new injectable medication for management of pain related to osteoarthritis. She also takes oral meds and she’s moving better already! Jackie is now ready to find her forever person/family. An ideal family for Jackie is one offering a calm, relaxing environment, able to ensure she receives the medication needed to address her osteoarthritis; she is doing so well on it. Jackie would also enjoy a secure, fenced yard, and possibly senior canine friend. Jackie is up to date on all vaccinations, spayed, microchipped. Her recent blood work looked great. She is housebroken too! If you might be interested in adding Jackie to your family, please contact BAARKDogRescue@gmail.com or 847-852-0895.

Story
Chato found himself at Chicago Animal Control, abandoned by the family he had been loyal to his entire life. He was in very bad shape and appeared to be very old due to the neglect he suffered. His skin was terribly infected and hope of ever finding love and happiness had been extinguished from his eyes. We could not let this cute Pocket Pittie die without knowing the kindness of a human touch or that every day does not need to be filled with fear and mistreatment. Once pulled from Animal Control, Chato knew instantly that he was safe and life would be better….and it sure was!! Chato’s medical needs were immediately addressed, his skin issues were resolved, and his spirit slowly returned. Today, Chato is a silly little pup, recovered from his past, and looking to continue to live the happy healthy life he so deserves…..with a family of his own. Chato is just 4-5 years old, and weighs about 35lbs…..tiny for a Pitbull! He is very playful and spirited, and loves being with people. He enjoys cuddling and definitely being petted too! He takes treats gently, and sits nicely for them. He is housebroken and is eager to please! Chato is sure to make a wonderful addition to any family worthy of him!! Chato walks nicely on a leash; he does not react when he sees other dogs out and about. However, Chato does need to be an only dog; he’s not fond of sharing his home with other four-legged creatures…dogs or cats!! An ideal home for Chato is with a family with significant Pitbull experience, but having no other dogs currently ; Chato absolutely deserves to receive all the attention for himself. He’d love a fenced yard and deserves a family willing to spend time with him and include him in all family activities. Chato may enjoy the company of older children but younger children may be too much for him. Chato is fully vetted, up-to-date on all vaccinations, neutered, microchipped, and heartworm negative/on year-round heartworm prevention. A solid, verifiable vet history for all past pets is required for all adopters of BAARK Dogs. If you are interested in adding Chato to your family, please email BAARKDogRescue@gmail.com or call 847-852-0895 for an adoption application.

Story
Agnes is a very pretty, rather petite Pitbull who had a terrible life before she was rescued and taken to Chicago Animal Control. Once joining BAARK Dog Rescue, her life changed for the better; she would never suffer any abuse or neglect again. Agnes had been seen for several weeks, living in a junkyard, finding shelter under a porch and among the junk. Every once in a while she got out of the fenced area to scavenge the neighborhood for food, only to have kids throw rocks and bottles at her and try to hurt her. She was scared, alone, and starving. It took a couple of caring, compassionate rescuers a couple of weeks to capture her. She was brought to Chicago Animal Control, still very scared and totally withdrawn. We are grateful we at BAARK learned of Agnes and have been able to help her overcome such past neglect, abuse, and fear, and she’s now ready to move along to her forever home. Agnes is estimated to be 6 years old. She weighs 39 lbs. An ideal home for Agnes is with a family having Pitbull breed experience, able to provide Agnes the attention, care, and compassion she deserves, without her having to share it with other canine family members. That is, she’d do best as an only dog. She is not good with cats. Agnes would love a nice, safe and secure back yard of her own. A solid, verifiable vet history for all current and past pets is required for all adopters of BAARK Dogs. Agnes is fully vetted, up-to-date on vaccinations, spayed, and microchipped as well as heartworm negative and on year-round heartworm preventative. If you are interested in adding Agnes to your family, please contact BAARKDogRescue@gmail.com or 847-852-0895

Story
Meet Indiana, a one-year-old male Shepherd mix with striking features and a charming personality. With his big, stand-up ears and handsome appearance, he is sure to catch the attention of anyone who crosses his path. Weighing in at a friendly 50 pounds, Indiana is the perfect size for those seeking a medium-sized canine companion. Favorite Things: Morning belly rubs! Long sniffy walks He loves stuffed toys and bones equally He really enjoys stuffing himself in a tiny dog bed Treats! Lots of them and all of them! He's not picky He loves to give hugs Snuffle mats and puzzle toys Car rides Snuggling on the couch Cues: Sit Down Stay (working on this) Leave it Come (we have been working on this and he's doing really well) Muzzle training Potty trained Loose leash walking How have I been doing in foster? "He has been an absolute joy to foster. He's such a good boy and someone would be so lucky to have him. We have been working on his socialization and he's doing very well. He's extremely intelligent and eager to learn new things. He loves it when his small foster brothers chase him around! " Although Indiana displays guarding tendencies towards other dogs, it's essential to emphasize that he does not exhibit guarding behavior towards people. He is affectionate and loving with his human companions and eagerly seeks their company. Indiana's devotion and loyalty make him an excellent choice for individuals or families seeking a companion who will provide unwavering love and companionship. Considering Indiana's specific needs and history, it's recommended that he be placed in a home without young children. To ensure safety and minimize any potential triggers for guarding behavior, a home with children aged 12 and above would be the most suitable match for Indiana. Older children who can understand and respect his boundaries will create an environment where he can thrive and feel secure. Indiana's future home should also provide outlets for his physical and mental stimulation. Regular exercise, interactive toys, and engaging activities will help channel his energy and ensure his overall well-being. Indiana is an all-star dog, and his adoption appointment includes a discussion with the training team, as well as a few enrichment goodies to help get you both off to a good start. To learn more about Indiana or to schedule an appointment to meet him, please email info@ahconnects.org (including your name and phone number), and the staff will be happy to assist you. Our dogs and puppies go home spayed/neutered, microchipped, heartworm tested (7 months and over), and up to date on core vaccines, heartworm, flea, and tick preventatives.
