Story

Portugal’s story is one of resilience, kindness, and second chances. This handsome five year old black cat was found injured near a local citizen’s home, covered in several painful puncture wounds from what we can only imagine was a traumatic attack. Thankfully, a compassionate woman stepped in and refused to let him suffer alone. She rushed him to an emergency vet, covered his extensive medical care, and opened her home to him while he healed. Despite everything he has been through, Portugal has proven just how strong he is. He may be FIV+, but that certainly does not define him. In fact, Portugal seems to know just how lucky he is to have been saved, and now he is ready to find a forever home where he can finally relax and feel safe again. Portugal doesn`t mind the other cats as long as they respect his space. Right now, he would much rather be your one and only companion, soaking up all the love, comfort, and security he deserves. He has already survived so much, and now all he needs is someone willing to give him the peaceful next chapter he has been waiting for. Black cats and FIV+ cats are often overlooked, but Portugal is proof that some of the most special souls simply need someone willing to see their worth. FIV+ cats are some of the most overlooked cats in shelters, but they are just as deserving of love and homes as any other cat. FIV, or Feline Immunodeficiency Virus, affects a cat’s immune system, but many FIV+ cats live long, happy, and healthy lives with proper care and regular veterinary checkups. At four years old, Octavia is a lovable, chunky girl with an even bigger heart. Weighing in at a whopping fifteen pounds of pure fluff and cuddles, this sweet cat is looking for a family that will appreciate her gentle spirit. Octavia`s story began with heartbreak after she was abandoned in a local motel room and brought to the shelter when staff contacted us. Understandably frightened and unsure of her new surroundings, she would melt into the back of her kennel, trying to make herself disappear. Despite her impressive size, Octavia seemed convinced she could hide behind her tiny blanket—which looked more like a napkin draped over her! It was both heartbreaking and a little endearing. With time, patience, gentle pets, and plenty of reassurance, Octavia has blossomed into the affectionate, loving cat she was always meant to be. Once she trusts you, she`s happy to lean into your attention and enjoy the comfort of your company. Octavia does well with other cats and would fit in nicely with calm feline friends. Cassie is a beautiful 4-year-old cat looking for a loving home of her own. Sadly, Cassie`s story began with heartbreak when she was abandoned outside of our building in a carrier with no note, no food, and no water. Understandably, she was upset and confused when she first arrived and needed some extra time to adjust. As the days went on, we discovered that Cassie was simply protecting her heart. Beneath her guarded exterior is a sweet girl who craves gentle pets, kind words, and reassurance. Once she trusts you, she`ll happily soak up head rubs and chin scratches. Cassie is a delightfully chunky girl who does well with other cats, though she generally prefers to keep to herself and enjoy the quieter things in life. Her favorite activities include curling up in her Kitty Kasa for a cozy nap or burrowing underneath freshly dried blankets and towels. If there`s a warm, soft spot available, Cassie will find it!
