Story
Major is a playful loving dog. He loves to run and has never been tied up or in a pen. Major is not house broke. He has been an outside dog. He has never had a leash on him as he runs free in the country. He is mostly over the pup time where he likes to chew things up. He is very friendly. He barks only at coyotes or other animals that come near the house. We have 2 other dogs and they all get along with each other. He is a relatively calm dog who likes to play and wrestle in the yard.

Story
Coco is a really good dog, very smart and loving. Tell him to sit, shake, lay down, he does. As he is laying on floor I put a dog treat 3 ft from him and tell him "you stay" he does until you tell him "ok go get it". I went out of town for 2 days, person could not show up to let him out. He held it in for 2 days until I got home. He is very loving and affectionate, only downfall others may have of him is he slept with me in my bed at night. My son has 2 Great Danes, so he does get along with other dogs.

Story
Apple Strudel – Sweet, Soulful, and Still Waiting Apple Strudel is the last of his littermates still waiting for a home — and we can’t quite understand how. This sweet, sensitive boy has so much love to give and is ready to be someone’s whole heart. Born and raised in our care, Strudel has grown into a deeply connected, affectionate little dog who bonds quickly with his people. He is the kind of dog who notices when something is off — quietly coming to your side, looking up at you with soft, curious eyes as if asking how he can make it better. He doesn’t just live in your home… he feels like he belongs to you. Strudel is also full of life and joy. He is active, playful, and thrives in a home where he has engagement and companionship. He would do best with children or a young, playful dog who can match his energy and love of play. He enjoys chasing his canine friends, sharing toys, and being part of the fun. Strudel does have a BIG bark for such a little guy. He doesn’t bark out of aggression, but out of excitement and enthusiasm, which makes him not well suited for apartments, condos, or homes with shared walls. He thrives when he is part of the family’s daily life and does best in a home where he is not left alone for long periods. He is social, emotionally tuned in, and happiest when he feels included and connected. Strudel was raised using Puppy Culture, an evidence-based program designed to build confident, resilient puppies through structured socialization, early problem-solving, and positive exposure to the world. This foundation has helped shape him into a thoughtful, responsive, and emotionally aware companion. He has been raised on a balanced raw diet and does best when maintained on raw. Attempts to transition him to other foods have resulted in digestive upset. While raw is not required, it is strongly recommended for his long-term health and comfort. If not continuing raw, a very high-quality diet without fillers such as corn, wheat, or legumes is essential. He has tolerated Open Farm puppy food well. Strudel will require lifelong grooming, including professional grooming approximately every 6 weeks, along with regular brushing at home. Daily eye care is also needed to manage tear staining, so his adopter should be comfortable maintaining this routine. Apple Strudel has been seen by a veterinarian and is healthy with no concerns. He is neutered, microchipped, and current on all age-appropriate vaccinations. Adoption fee: $500 Applications are processed in 7–10 business days. An approved application is required prior to a meet and greet. All family members, including resident dogs, must attend. Adopters must travel to Decatur, IL — no transport is provided. If flying, he must travel in the cabin with his adopter (no cargo flights). Puppies are a lifetime commitment of 15+ years. If at any point Apple Strudel cannot remain with his adopter, he must be returned to Leia’s Hope Canine Rescue. Applications and additional information can be found at leiashope.org. -

Story
*Ezekiel** 📍 Location: Decatur, IL **NO SMALL CHILDREN UNDER 6** Application: [leiashope.org](http://leiashope.org) Ezekiel is a little guy surrendered to rescue due to having two open fontanelles. The smaller one has closed and the larger one is nearly closed, but it will likely remain for the rest of his life. An open fontanelle, or “soft spot,” means there is no bone protecting part of his brain, making him more susceptible to injury. Care must be taken to prevent hard hits or punctures (from teeth, claws, falls, or bumping into hard surfaces) to the top of his head. Ezekiel is also believed to have **mild hydrocephalus** and has recently begun having seizures. He is now on **daily anti-seizure medication** to help manage them. Hydrocephalus affects his ability to be house trained — he is not house trained and frequently marks or has accidents indoors. This is a common side effect of hydrocephalus and not simply stubbornness, though he is otherwise an active, playful puppy who in many ways acts like a normal dog. This spunky boy loves to play and can entertain himself, but he also enjoys romping with the foster’s gentle dogs. His favorite game is being chased — he’s very fast and sometimes slows down just so they can catch him before zooming off again. He’s especially attached to another toy poodle in the home and will follow him around begging for play. Ezekiel sleeps in bed with his foster mom but may need to potty during the night, so he wears a belly band. With multiple dogs and puppies in the foster home, it’s challenging to catch him every time, so he’ll need an adopter who is very vigilant indoors. He is a picky eater and often eats best when he thinks someone else wants his food. He eats in his crate because he is slow and can be food aggressive toward other dogs if they approach his meal. His diet includes a rotation of raw, freeze-dried, and some kibble to encourage eating. While Ezekiel enjoys some cuddle time, he does not like being carried — he wiggles to get down, which is dangerous given his condition. He should be placed gently on the ground if he wants down. **Requirements:** * No small children under 6 * No large dogs in the home * No mobility issues in the household * Someone who understands his medical needs and can love him as he is * Secure home environment to keep him safe Ezekiel’s adoption fee is \$500. He is neutered, microchipped, current on vaccines, and on monthly flea and heartworm prevention. 📌 **Please Note:** * We are volunteer-run and application processing can take 7–10 business days. * All dogs are in foster homes, not at a central location. Approved application required before meet and greet. * We do not ship or transport dogs — you must travel to the dog’s location. **Dogs are a lifetime commitment. Please apply only if you can commit to his lifetime.**
