Story
Hello! My name is Seymour. I am a handsome 2 year old mix of American Bulldog and Hound, weighing in at 61 lbs. My life story is a bit sad. As a puppy, I was found as a stray and taken to a shelter in Missouri. When I was adopted, I was a happy, healthy, confident pup! The man I was adopted to was not good to me so I ran away and was found again, as a stray, and taken to the same shelter I originally came from. When they noticed who I was, they couldn't believe the change in my demeanor. I was scared of everything. People, dogs, sounds, smells.....everything. They knew something bad had happened to me because I also walked with a limp. After some x-rays, they found that I had an old fracture of my right leg near my knee that didn't heal properly. I needed to get out of Missouri. Some really great people transported me to Iowa where a family took me into their home. Because crates scare me so badly, they gave me my very own bedroom with a full sized bed! It was heaven. It took me some time to decompress but once I had, they introduced me to their resident dogs slowly and appropriately, one by one, over the course of a week. I had seen them and was able to smell them through a baby gate in my bedroom doorway for some time, but I finally got to go outside with them. Because of this slow and controlled introduction, we are all best buds now! I was then taken to the vet to see what they could do about my limp. Since I am so young, it was decided that I would have TPLO surgery. TPLO surgery consists of cutting the top of my tibia, rotating it, and stabilizing it in a new position with a bone plate and screws. Quite a major surgery for such a young guy like me. But now, I have been released from care and x-rays show the surgery was successful! I am not in pain anymore! I am a sweet boy! I listen well and love belly scratches. Affection is my favorite thing so I will snuggle up with you any chance I get. I am potty trained and can be left to free roam if you leave. One thing I am working on is some anxiety and fear of the unknown. I am getting better and better each day, and the more positive experiences I have, the more comfortable I feel with them. Now that I am all healed up, I am looking for a family that will love me for who I am. That will be patient with me and work with me and provide me with nothing but positivity in life. I may always be afraid of certain things to an extent but that doesn't make me a bad dog. It makes me special. I would love a quiet, low key home to live my best life! With a little compassion and some positive experiences in the world, I am certain I can heal from my past trauma. Seymour is neutered, heartworm tested, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations. Adopters must be within a two-hour radius of Cedar Rapids, IA. Seymour would prefer a fenced in yard so he can run and play safely now that he can! Indoor homes only. Story
Hi, my name is Buddy! I am a handsome 12 year old Yellow Lab/German Shepherd Mix. I came into rescue when my owner had to go into an assisted living facility. I miss him but am adjusting to and loving my new take on life! Although I am bit older, I am a fantastic dog! I would be perfect for a seasoned dog lover or a first timer. My foster parents say I am the epitome of a good boy. Great energy with low maintenance. I just love to be in your presence. Rub my belly and I'm yours for good! I always want to be around my human(s). If you go, I want to come too. I just want to be your sidekick! I love to share my love and am a fantastic cuddler! My foster parents say my eyes will warm your heart. The way I look at you, no matter what you are doing, will put a smile on your face. I always want you to know I'm watching so I can get your approval. I love to be outside and I love to be inside!! I just love everything and am a good listener. Being older, I don't run like he used to, but my trot will show you that I am still very youthful! As for routines, I have them and I like them. I have my very own set bedtime, and will make sure you know when it's that time!! I love to snuggle in bed if you will allow it, but will need assistance getting up there, if you could. Since I'm no spring chicken, I do take my time going up and down the stairs. My backside isn't what it once was, so if you would like me to sit with you on the couch, I may need some help getting up there too. Other than that, I don't really have any special needs. All my bloodwork came back great and I have recently had a complete dental! I would love a home that has time to show me the love I deserve. I'm a really good boy and really miss my companionship with my previous human. I would love a fenced in yard where I can wander around, but I'm also very good off leash as long as my person is outside with me, to guide me when I wander too far. I would be fine in a home with other low key dogs, or being on my own with my human(s). Buddy is neutered, heartworm tested, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations. Adopters must be within a two-hour radius of Cedar Rapids, IA. Indoor homes only. Applications can be submitted at: https://www.aplanimalrescue.org/dogs

Story
Hi! I'm Dodger. I am an 8 year old Red Husky with a heart of pure gold! I am a very laid back pup that enjoys being around people and other dogs. I especially love to go on walks and snuggle up close for some love and scratches. I get two walks a day but would love to go more often if given the opportunity. I use to walk with a slight limp from my front right arm. My new vet thought it was due to my weight and the fact that I have Lyme disease (a very easy and inexpensive thing to treat if needed, by the way). But then I was treated with a course of antibiotics, and when it didn't go away, I had x-rays done. They found a BB in arm that had to be removed. I have completely recovered from that procedure and no longer walk with a limp! I love this new life of mine! Living with with Lyme disease really easily. As long as you keep an eye on my joints, and let my vet know if I am having any troubles with them at any point, I am sure to live a long healthy life! I can now run around the yard, go on long walks and I even race my foster mom up the stairs with no issues. I am super comfortable being around other dogs and I am respectful of their boundaries. I would do best in a home without cats as they are too much fun to chase. My ideal home would have a dog sibling to keep me company and play with. I would enjoy an active home with a family that likes to go on walks and is able to spend a lot of time with me. I am house trained and am good about letting you know when I need to go outside. I eat my meals in my crate but really prefer not to spend time in there if I don't need to. My foster mom says I am a good boy and lets me free roam around the house when she has to leave. I stay out of trouble and sleep most of the time she is gone anyway. I love to play with balls and chew toys. If my next home has little human siblings it would be good for them to know I like stuffed animals and can't tell if it is a kid toy or a dog toy. If I accidentally pick up the wrong toy, I will let go of it when you tell me to! Dodger is neutered, 4DX tested, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations. Adopters must be within a two-hour radius of Cedar Rapids, IA. Indoor homes only. Applications can be submitted at: https://www.aplanimalrescue.org/dogs

Cooper is a magnificent companion dog in both looks and personality! Cooper needs a new home by Thursday, December 7, 2023, otherwise the city will put him down. He will come with a crate, crate pad, toys, food, medications, plus I will give his adopter $100/month for one year. Cooper is sweet and cuddly who takes direction well and loves activity. He would do best in a home with older children. With other dogs, it really depends on everyone's personalities. He is easy to handle when it comes to nail clipping and bathing. Even the veterinarian was amazed at how well he can be to handle. He is an ideal weight to help stave off chronic conditions such as osteoarthritis.

Story
Chewbacca is a little guy looking for a low stress, low key environment where he can lounge about and be his regal self! He is a dog who arrived into our care in need of a home. Living somewhere with only grown ups is his biggest ask, along with a setting that he can be relaxed as he has a diagnosis of collapsing trachea. This is something that can occur in any dog, but is more common in smaller breed furry friends. While a long term factor, this does not impact his longevity of life as long so long as he remains in a calm and quiet home. If he were to over-exert himself, respiratory issues could come into factor. With this said, a form of supportive care for him is walking on a harness and not a collar. This helps him to not pull and tug against himself! Chewbacca asks that the grown ups in his home acknowledge his desire for him to enjoy his food and toys all to himself. With that said, while he's been around other dogs before, being a bachelor in his adoptive home will likely be best. If you are looking for a companion dog to hang out with as a good buddy - come meet Chewbacca today!
