Story
Hello! My name is Seymour. I am a handsome 2 year old mix of American Bulldog and Hound, weighing in at 61 lbs.
My life story is a bit sad. As a puppy, I was found as a stray and taken to a shelter in Missouri. When I was adopted, I was a happy, healthy, confident pup! The man I was adopted to was not good to me so I ran away and was found again, as a stray, and taken to the same shelter I originally came from.
When they noticed who I was, they couldn't believe the change in my demeanor. I was scared of everything. People, dogs, sounds, smells.....everything. They knew something bad had happened to me because I also walked with a limp.
After some x-rays, they found that I had an old fracture of my right leg near my knee that didn't heal properly.
I needed to get out of Missouri.
Some really great people transported me to Iowa where a family took me into their home. Because crates scare me so badly, they gave me my very own bedroom with a full sized bed! It was heaven.
It took me some time to decompress but once I had, they introduced me to their resident dogs slowly and appropriately, one by one, over the course of a week. I had seen them and was able to smell them through a baby gate in my bedroom doorway for some time, but I finally got to go outside with them. Because of this slow and controlled introduction, we are all best buds now!
I was then taken to the vet to see what they could do about my limp. Since I am so young, it was decided that I would have TPLO surgery. TPLO surgery consists of cutting the top of my tibia, rotating it, and stabilizing it in a new position with a bone plate and screws. Quite a major surgery for such a young guy like me. But now, I have been released from care and x-rays show the surgery was successful! I am not in pain anymore!
I am a sweet boy! I listen well and love belly scratches. Affection is my favorite thing so I will snuggle up with you any chance I get. I am potty trained and can be left to free roam if you leave. One thing I am working on is some anxiety and fear of the unknown. I am getting better and better each day, and the more positive experiences I have, the more comfortable I feel with them.
Now that I am all healed up, I am looking for a family that will love me for who I am. That will be patient with me and work with me and provide me with nothing but positivity in life. I may always be afraid of certain things to an extent but that doesn't make me a bad dog. It makes me special. I would love a quiet, low key home to live my best life! With a little compassion and some positive experiences in the world, I am certain I can heal from my past trauma.
Seymour is neutered, heartworm tested, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations.
Adopters must be within a two-hour radius of Cedar Rapids, IA.
Seymour would prefer a fenced in yard so he can run and play safely now that he can!
