Story
Hi! My name is Peanut and I am a 9 year old, 17 lb Miniature Schnauzer. I might be a little guy but boy do I have a big personality! You will see this come out when someone comes to the door to visit! I came into rescue with my older brother Max after we lost our Dad and our Mom realized she couldn't care for us anymore. Although I am the enthusiastic one of the two, Max is definitely the wiser one. I look up to him with admiration because he's not just my brother; he's my rock. Together, we've faced many great days and also many challenges, including diabetes. Our journey hasn't always been easy, but through it all, Max and I have remained by each other's side, stronger and better because we are together. Despite facing the challenge of diabetes, I'm not letting anything hold me back. My eyes, warm and wise, have seen many things, yet they still sparkle with hope. Managing our diabetes is part of our routine, but it doesn't define us. It's simply part of who we are. Now, we're searching for a forever family who understands that our bond is as important to us as the air we breathe. To the family who welcomes us into their home, you'll receive all the love that knows no bounds. In return, we'll offer you lifelong loyalty, endless cuddles, and an abundance of cherished memories. Peanut is up to date on vaccinations, 4DX tested, microchipped and neutered. He will be scheduled for a thorough dental exam and cleaning in just a few weeks. We are in the process of applying for a grant that will provide Max and Peanut's family with funding to offset some of the costs associated with their care. In addition, we are working with a pet diabetic company that has agreed to send their family a basket filled with all the supplies they will need to get started, free of charge. Peanut and Max would do best in a home with a physically fenced in yard so they can explore as much as their little hearts desire. Adopters must be within a 45 minute radius of Cedar Rapids, IA. Indoor homes only. Applications can be submitted at: https://www.aplanimalrescue.org/dogs

Story
Liberty "Libby" is a gorgeous 5 year old charcoal Lab. She is housebroken and crate-trained, but perfers to sleep with her human brothers. She is spayed, weighs 88 pounds and is current on her vaccinations. . She loves to chase balls and go for car rides. Libby is learning not to counter-surf, and jump on new visitors, but she hasn't been super successful yet! She loves all dogs and loves to go to the boarder where she can play with other dogs. She has stayed at home every day with a work from home mom, so she lounges most of the day. Liberty is a very strong girl, and lacks leash manners (even though she has been walked since 8 weeks) She does better in a fenced in yard. She is very loving and affectionate.

Story
Hi! My name is Gabe. I am a 4 year old, 21 lb love bug who enjoys running around the yard or snuggling with my people. I'm guessed to be a Corgi/Jack Russell mix but whatever I am, I am 100% adorable. I came into rescue after losing my way and finding myself in an overcrowded shelter. No one came to claim me and the nice shelter people did not understand why! I love anything that involves getting to be with my people or my animal friends. I enjoy cuddling, going on walks, playing with toys, going to training, chewing on bones and just hanging out. I just want to be your buddy! I will follow you around, lay next to you, curl up with you and rollover onto my back when I'm really comfy or welcoming belly rubs. I will snore a little bit, right along with you, when I'm sleeping. I can be a nervous nelly in new situations and when I meet new people but I am working hard with my trainer to build my personal confidence. I prefer slow, calm introductions but once I know you, I will love you unconditionally. I have met several other dogs while with my foster family and have two foster dog siblings and two foster cat siblings! I don't even mind the cats I live with. I will play with them or just go on coexisting, depending on their mood. Big dogs intimidate me sometimes but with proper introductions, I do just fine. I would love a family of my own and would thrive with having a companion, whether human or dog. Someone I can be with, play with, sleep with and go places with. A calmer environment and a little patience is all I need while I get used to my new home. Even kids would be okay with me, as long as they are not overly energetic and allow me to make the first move to figure them out. I am going to make the most loyal and devoted companion for the right family. Gabe is up to date on vaccinations, heartworm tested, microchipped and neutered. He would do best in a home with a fenced in yard so he can run and play safely. Adopters must be within close proximity of Cedar Rapids/Marion, IA and willing to continue his prepaid training sessions until completed. Indoor homes only. Applications can be submitted at: https://www.aplanimalrescue.org/dogs

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Hi! I am Barclay. I traveled all the way from Egypt to find my forever home in Iowa.  I like it here at the adoption center where I'v called home for a few years now. I had a pretty rough time before I came to Iowa.  I am missing some hair on my back end, it happen Egypt and we don't know what happened but could be the reason it takes time for Barclay to warm up to new people. I am all healed up and would love home with understanding people. I would do best in a quiet home with my few people that understand and love me. I will need on going care for my skin so I don't get sores. The volunteers keep my skin nice and moisturized and away from the sun so I don't get sun burns. I know lots of commands, sit, down, shake and I am crate trained. I love to play with toys too! I like playing with other dogs but I need a home with no kids.  Everyone says I am a very handsome boy.  If you are interested in Barclay we ask you to become a volunteer at the Last Hope Adoption Center so he can get to know you! Barclay has stranger danger and takes time to warm up to new people.   Barclay will need an owner who has previous experience with dogs who have behavioral issues. Barcaly's adoption free is $250 and includes his neuter, microchip and current vaccinations as well as a basic obedience class at Cedar Run in Hiawatha. Last Hope requires that all animals be kept as indoor pets only, altered, current on vaccinations and year round preventatives. Our adoption process includes reference and background checks, a vet check and a home visit Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.May 4, 2024, 2:27 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Hi, I’m Duke! I am a charming, happy, Cattle Dog mix.  I love to go for walks  or runs  (and I am really good at it!). I also love car rides, stuffed animals, and playing in a fenced-in backyard. I am completely house trained,  crate trained ,  and am very intelligent. I know what sit, lay down , and stay mean, but I could use some more training to work on those commands and anything else you want to teach me.  I love to run and play; I have a whole lot of energy, but I also love to cuddle, give kisses and be loved by my human companion .  Basically, I just like to be doing what my people are.   I am very cautious of new people. I really prefer to come check you out first, and I really rather you don’t pet me until I know you will treat me with kindness.  I may  have to meet you a couple times before  I know I can trust you .   I can’t tell my friends at Last Hope what happened to me before I came to stay with them, but all they know is that it takes me a while to trust people and be comfortable in situations.  Because of this, I should not be in a home with young kids or teens.  My dream home would be with an adult family who is familiar with my kind of challenges and who has a physically fenced in yard. I also want 1 other playful dog around my size (50 pounds+) or bigger  to play with (I can play a little rough so they need to be tough like me) and a family who is very patient with me while I adjust to new people in my life.  I am a very loyal companion and I just want to please my humans!   Once I know I can trust you, I just want to be around you and will be your shadow as you go through your day.  I have also had my DNA tested! I am officially an Australian Cattle Dog/Harrier mix!    Last Hope requires that all pets be kept as indoor pets, be altered and current on vaccinations and preventatives. Our adoption process includes reference and vet checks and a home visit. The adoption fee includes: spay/neuter, microchip and vaccinations.   Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.May 4, 2024, 2:27 pm
