Story
Milo — A High-Energy Explorer with a Sensitive SideMilo is a bright, energetic pup who thrives when given daily outlets for his physical and mental energy. Long walks, sniffing adventures, and enriching games aren’t just fun for Milo — they’re essential. He loves having a “job” to do, and when his needs are met, he transforms into a focused, happy companion with a spring in his step and a tail held high. While affectionate with people he trusts, Milo is not a fan of being rushed, especially by new faces. He may look like a cuddly teddy bear, but he is independent and smart, needing his personal space respected at all times. Earning his trust is a slow, steady process, but those who are patient will discover a thoughtful, deeply loyal companion.Milo will do best in a home that provides consistency, structure, and outlets for his energy. He enjoys food puzzles, treat-dispensing toys, and other enrichment activities that challenge his mind. He’s still learning house and crate training, but he is a quick and eager learner when guided with patience and positive reinforcement. Milo may do well with a calm, confident dog or dog-savvy cats with slow introductions. His ideal home will be adult-only or include older teens (15+) who understand that he needs time, space, and structure to thrive. Milo will also need lifelong support from veterinary care and behavior guidance to help him become comfortable being left alone, as currently he becomes very stressed and reactive when alone. A family committed to working with a recommended dog trainer will help Milo’s energy, confidence, and spirit truly shine.Potential adopters must speak with Carolyn at Carolyn@gahumane.org, who will schedule meet-and-greets and provide guidance on Milo’s special needs.Behavior and personality assessment is based on information provided by previous owner(s) and/or observations in a shelter environment and may not accurately reflect the pet’s behavior in your home.

Story
Kaiser — A Thoughtful, Loyal Companion Kaiser’s story is one of resilience, patience, and quiet progress. Since arriving at GAHS as a young dog, he’s shown us how deeply he bonds with the people he trusts and how much he thrives with structure, consistency, and gentle guidance. In the shelter, Kaiser has been cautious around new people and unfamiliar situations, but with patience, positive reinforcement, and a predictable routine, he has blossomed into a loving, playful, and loyal companion. He enjoys daily walks, sniffing adventures, enrichment activities, car rides, and tennis balls, and he responds beautifully to calm, low-stress environments that allow him to explore and engage at his own pace.Kaiser will do best in a calm, adult-only home where he can be the only pet. He needs a low-traffic environment without frequent visitors or loud activity, and a family experienced with sensitive dogs who can read his body language and move at his pace. Working with a certified, positive reinforcement–based trainer will help him continue building confidence and navigating new experiences successfully. For the right adopter, Kaiser will be a deeply rewarding companion, offering affection, loyalty, and quiet joy every day.Behavior and personality assessment is based on information provided by previous owner(s) and/or observations in a shelter environment and may not accurately reflect the pet’s behavior in your home.

Story
Meet Duke!Weight: 87 lbs Large and in charge Mr. Duke is ready to find his match, Duke made his way to us due to no fault of his own and is such a good boy! Duke is looking for an active household, one that wants a canine friend to tag along on all the outside adventures. Duke can be a little nervous at first but quickly warms up and is very food motivated. Duke knows sit, paw and down and walks great on leash. A home outside of city limits and in a more quiet rural-like area would be best for Mr. Duke! Duke has lived with other dogs before and did well and we`d want him to meet all canine siblings prior to going home, he`s also lived with felines (1-2) before and chickens (that were couped up) and did fine. Duke would be best fit with teenagers and in a lower foot traffic household, our staff will be happy to discuss introductions with Duke and feline/canine friends in home, to help set everyone up for success! Duke looks forward to meeting you!

Story
Sweet, Sensitive Annie Rose — Learning the World One Step at a TimeAnnie Rose is a young hound with a gentle heart and a world that’s still very new to her. She has had limited exposure to the everyday hustle and bustle of life, and new experiences can feel a little overwhelming at first. Because of this, she’s looking for a calm, patient environment where she can move at her own pace and build confidence through thoughtful, positive experiences. Annie truly blossoms with reassurance, routine, and kind guidance, and having a confident, well-adjusted dog companion could help her feel safe as she learns and grows.Annie Rose will need a home that understands the importance of slow introductions and continued support as she adjusts to new people, places, and routines. She is slowly learning how to respectfully coexist with cats, and will benefit from continued guidance and gentle reinforcement as she builds those skills. She has not lived with children, so any introductions will need to be gradual and thoughtful. With time, consistency, and lots of encouragement, Annie has the potential to grow into a wonderful, loyal companion. She’s the perfect match for someone who believes in going slow, celebrating small wins, and helping a shy dog discover just how brave she can be.Behavior and personality assessment is based on information provided by previous owner(s) and/or observations in a shelter environment and may not accurately reflect the pet’s behavior in your home.

Story
Mickey — The Life of the Party! Mickey is a young, bouncy dog who first came to the shelter as a stray and quickly charmed everyone with his wiggly personality and goofy enthusiasm. He’s full of energy, loves to play, and has a big heart that makes him light up any room. Mickey is smart and food-motivated, already knowing sit, down, and paw — impressive skills for such a silly, lovable boy. While he’s playful and joyful, he is still figuring out the world and learning how to navigate it confidently.Mickey will do best in a home that provides structure, consistent guidance, and plenty of physical and mental outlets. He has grown increasingly frustrated with other dogs, so any dog introductions will need to be very slow, safe, and managed by someone experienced with large, powerful dogs. Mickey loves chew toys, food puzzles, and long walks to satisfy his curiosity. With patience, routine, and ongoing training, he has the potential to grow into an incredible companion who fills every day with joy and laughter.Behavior and personality assessment is based on information provided by previous owner(s) and/or observations in a shelter environment and may not accurately reflect the pet’s behavior in your home.

Story
Humphrey — A Lovable Gremlin with a Vacuum Setting Humphrey’s journey hasn’t been the easiest, but you’d never know it by looking at him now. This resilient little guy has bounced back beautifully and is ready to find a loving home—complete with couches to nap on and humans to adore. Humphrey is sweet, goofy, and full of personality. He’s housebroken, crate-trained, rides well in the car, and has done well with other dogs and respectful, dog-savvy cats. His playful charm and affectionate nature make him the kind of dog who quickly steals hearts (and personal space).Humphrey will do best in an adult-only home with an adopter who is extremely attentive and committed to careful management. He has a “real-life vacuum mode” habit—he tries to eat anything left on the floor, which has resulted in serious vet visits in the past. His ideal family will maintain tidy floors, supervise him closely, and practice consistent “leave it” training. Any potential canine siblings must meet Humphrey beforehand, and cats in the home should be dog-savvy. With structure, patience, and humor, Humphrey will thrive as a loving, loyal companion who keeps life entertaining.Behavior Disclaimer: Behavior and personality assessment is based on information provided by previous owner(s) and/or observations in a shelter environment and may not accurately reflect the pet’s behavior in your home.
