Story
Meet Milo – A High-Energy Explorer with a Sensitive SideMilo is a bright, energetic pup who thrives when given daily outlets for his physical and mental energy. Long walks, sniffy adventures, and enriching games aren’t just fun for Milo — they’re essential. He loves having a “job” to do, and when his needs are met, he transforms into a focused, happy companion with a spring in his step and a tail held high. While Milo is affectionate with the people he trusts, he’s not a fan of being rushed — especially by new faces. Remember, he may look like a cuddly teddy Bear but he is a very independent and smart dog. He needs his personal space respected at all times and is not the kind of dog who will tolerate handling from strangers or even new friends until he says it’s okay. Earning his trust is a slow and steady process, but those who are patient will discover a thoughtful, deeply loyal companion.Milo enjoys working through routines and puzzles, especially food-based enrichment like treat-dispensing toys or crinkly paper bags with snacks hidden inside. He’s still learning the ropes of house and crate training, but he’s a smart and eager learner when given consistency, structure, and positive reinforcement (especially if string cheese is involved!).Milo may do well with a calm, confident dog buddy or dog-savvy cats, with slow introductions. His ideal home will be adult-only or include older teens (15+) who understand that Milo needs time, space, and structure to thrive. Milo will need a family committed to working with one of our recommended dog trainers. With the right family and trainer, Milo’s energy and spirit can truly shine. Please email us at Carolyn@gahumane.org to meet Milo!

Story
Meet Josie: A Sweet Hound Puppy Ready to Discover the WorldJosie is a gentle, curious young hound puppy with a heart full of potential and a nose made for adventure. She’s grown up with other dogs and enjoys their company, but much of the world outside her familiar circle is still brand new to her. Because of this, Josie can be a little unsure at first and will need an adopter who is patient, kind, and excited to help her build confidence through positive experiences.Like many hound puppies, Josie is smart, sensitive, and learning every day. She will thrive in a home that understands puppies require time, consistency, and ongoing training. With guidance, she’s sure to blossom into a loyal and loving companion who enjoys both exploring and curling up with her people afterward. We do not yet know Josie’s history with kids, cats, or other animals outside of dogs, so slow, thoughtful introductions will be important. A calm, well-balanced canine companion could be a wonderful influence and help show her the ropes. If you’re ready for the joys (and challenges!) of puppyhood and want to help a sweet hound pup grow into her best self, Josie may be the perfect match. Apply today to meet this gentle girl and start your adventure together!

Story
Kaiser’s story is one of resilience, patience, and quiet progress. Since first arriving at GAHS as a young dog, this handsome boy has had several chapters in his journey - each teaching us more about who he is, what he needs, and how deeply he bonds with the people he trusts. Now, with a consistent routine, dedicated staff, and a lot of love, Kaiser has made tremendous strides. We’re ready to help him find the calm, understanding home where he can finally exhale.Kaiser’s Journey & GrowthWhen Kaiser first came to us in 2021, he was barely more than a year old - full of energy but lacking the stability and support he needed to navigate the world. Over time, he’s shown us that while he can be nervous around new people or unfamiliar situations, with predictability, patience, and positive reinforcement, he truly shines. Here’s what we’ve learned about this special boy:A Deep Thinker: Kaiser doesn’t rush into new situations. He’s observant, cautious, and takes comfort in structure and familiar faces. Once he bonds with you, that trust runs deep - he becomes affectionate, playful, and loyal to his core.A Lover of Routine: Daily walks, sniffing adventures, and enrichment activities are his favorite part of the day. He especially loves car rides and tennis balls!Sensitive Soul: Crowds and busy environments make him uneasy, but quiet, low-key outings - like exploring a trail or hanging out in a calm yard - help him relax and enjoy life.Working Toward Confidence: With help from anxiety medication and a slow, steady behavioral plan, Kaiser has learned to settle, engage, and even enjoy short field trips to places like Home Depot! He’s learning that new doesn’t have to mean scary. The Right Home for KaiserKaiser is ready for his fresh start - he just needs the right match. His ideal home will be:Calm and Predictable: A structured, low-traffic environment without frequent visitors or loud activity.Adult-Only: Due to his nervousness around children, Kaiser should not live with or regularly be around young kids.Pet-Free: He should be the only pet in the home, so he can fully relax without added stress.Patient and Experienced: His adopter should understand canine body language and be willing to move at his pace. Working with a certified, positive reinforcement–based trainer will be essential to his success. We will be happy to offer recommendations. What We Se

Story
Meet Duke!Weight: 87 lbs Large and in charge Mr. Duke is ready to find his match, Duke made his way to us due to no fault of his own and is such a good boy! Duke is looking for an active household, one that wants a canine friend to tag along on all the outside adventures. Duke can be a little nervous at first but quickly warms up and is very food motivated. Duke knows sit, paw and down and walks great on leash. A home outside of city limits and in a more quiet rural-like area would be best for Mr. Duke! Duke has lived with other dogs before and did well and we`d want him to meet all canine siblings prior to going home, he`s also lived with felines (1-2) before and chickens (that were couped up) and did fine. Duke would be best fit with teenagers and in a lower foot traffic household, our staff will be happy to discuss introductions with Duke and feline/canine friends in home, to help set everyone up for success! Duke looks forward to meeting you!

Story
Meet Mickey – The Life of the Party!Mickey may have a big personality, and it shows the moment you meet him! This young, bouncy boy first came to us as a stray and quickly won everyone over with his wiggly charm and goofy enthusiasm. He’s the kind of dog who lights up a room and keeps smiles coming.Mickey is a strong, energetic guy who’s still figuring out the world—think of him as a big puppy who may have missed a few lessons along the way but is eager to learn. He’s super smart and very food-motivated, already knowing sit, down, and paw, which is pretty impressive for such a silly sweetheart.Since being adopted and later returned, Mickey has grown increasingly frustrated with other dogs. Because of this, any dog introductions will need to be very slow, safe, and handled by someone experienced with introducing large, powerful dogs to one another. Management, structure, and continued training will be key to helping him feel successful.Mickey loves chew toys, food puzzles, and long walks where he can put his curiosity to good use. With plenty of exercise, routine, and clear guidance, he has all the potential to grow into an incredible companion. If you’re looking for a fun, joyful dog who will keep you smiling—and you have the experience to help him thrive—Mickey is ready to meet you.
