Story
Meet Milo – Your Valentine with a Wild Heart Milo is a bright, energetic explorer who’s ready to find a love that understands him for who he truly is. Long walks, sniff-filled adventures, and brain-teasing games aren’t just fun for Milo — they’re the way to his heart. When his physical and mental needs are met, he blossoms into a focused, joyful companion, trotting along with a spring in his step and a tail held high. While Milo is affectionate with the people he trusts, he isn’t the type to fall head-over-paws for just anyone. He may look like a cuddly teddy bear, but underneath is an independent, intelligent soul who needs his personal space respected — especially around new faces. Trust with Milo is a slow-burn kind of love story, but for those willing to be patient, the reward is a deeply loyal companion whose bond is truly special.Milo enjoys routines, puzzles, and food-based enrichment (string cheese might just be his love language!). He’s still learning house and crate training, but with consistency, structure, and positive reinforcement, this smart boy is eager to succeed. He may do well with a calm, confident dog friend or dog-savvy cats when introductions are slow and thoughtful. Milo’s perfect match will be an adult-only home or one with older teens (15+) who understand that love sometimes means giving space, time, and guidance. His future family should also be committed to working with one of our recommended trainers so Milo’s energy and sensitive spirit can truly shine. If you’re looking for a Valentine whose love is meaningful, loyal, and one of a kind, Milo is waiting to meet you. Please email Carolyn@gahumane.org to learn more about this special boy.

Story
Meet Kaiser – A Love Worth Waiting For Kaiser’s story is one of resilience, patience, and quiet progress—the kind of story that reminds us the very best love is built slowly, with trust and understanding. Since arriving at GAHS as a young dog, this handsome boy has had many chapters, each teaching us more about who he is, what he needs, and how deeply he bonds with the people lucky enough to earn his heart. With steady routine, devoted staff, and so much love behind him, Kaiser is finally ready for the chapter he’s been waiting for most: a calm forever home where he can truly exhale.Kaiser is a thoughtful, sensitive soul who takes time to feel safe in new situations, but once he trusts you, his love is deep, loyal, and wonderfully affectionate. He finds joy in the simple things—daily walks, peaceful sniffing adventures, car rides, tennis balls, and quiet moments shared with someone he trusts. With the help of anxiety medication and a slow, supportive behavior plan, he’s learned to settle, engage, and even enjoy short outings, showing us more and more each day that new experiences don’t have to be scary. His perfect match will be a calm, predictable, adult-only and pet-free home with an experienced adopter who understands canine body language and is willing to move at Kaiser’s pace. Continued support from a positive-reinforcement trainer will help him keep building confidence, and we’re happy to offer guidance along the way. In the right environment, Kaiser doesn’t just cope—he blossoms.Kaiser may not be the dog for every home, but for the right person, he will be an incredibly meaningful companion. With patience, empathy, and respect for who he is, you won’t just be giving him a place to live—you’ll be giving him peace, safety, and a love that lasts forever. If you believe in slow, steady love, Kaiser is waiting to meet you this Valentine’s season.

Story
Meet Duke!Weight: 87 lbs Large and in charge Mr. Duke is ready to find his match, Duke made his way to us due to no fault of his own and is such a good boy! Duke is looking for an active household, one that wants a canine friend to tag along on all the outside adventures. Duke can be a little nervous at first but quickly warms up and is very food motivated. Duke knows sit, paw and down and walks great on leash. A home outside of city limits and in a more quiet rural-like area would be best for Mr. Duke! Duke has lived with other dogs before and did well and we`d want him to meet all canine siblings prior to going home, he`s also lived with felines (1-2) before and chickens (that were couped up) and did fine. Duke would be best fit with teenagers and in a lower foot traffic household, our staff will be happy to discuss introductions with Duke and feline/canine friends in home, to help set everyone up for success! Duke looks forward to meeting you!

Meet Mickey – Your Valentine’s Day Party Date! Mickey has a big personality, and you’ll feel the love the moment you meet him. This young, bouncy boy first arrived as a stray and quickly stole hearts with his wiggly charm, goofy enthusiasm, and joyful energy. He’s the kind of dog who lights up every room—no chocolates required.Think of Mickey as a lovable, oversized puppy who may have missed a few early lessons but is more than ready to learn with the right partner by his side. He’s incredibly smart, highly food-motivated, and already knows sit, down, and paw—pretty impressive for such a silly sweetheart! After being adopted and later returned, Mickey has developed some frustration around other dogs. Because of this, any introductions will need to move slowly, safely, and under the guidance of someone experienced with large, powerful dogs. With the right structure, management, and continued training, Mickey has all the potential to feel confident and successful. This fun-loving Valentine enjoys chew toys, food puzzles, and long walks where he can explore the world with his favorite human. Plenty of exercise, routine, and clear guidance will help his bright personality truly shine.Mickey is searching for a committed, experienced home—and everyone in the household will need to come meet him to make sure it’s a perfect love match. If you’re looking for a joyful companion who will keep you smiling every single day, Mickey is ready to give his whole heart to the right family this Valentine’s season. Could he be your perfect match?

Meet Irwin – Your Big, Goofy Valentine! Looking for a love that comes with full-body wiggles, endless enthusiasm, and a heart as big as the holiday itself? Meet Irwin! This lovable goofball is ready to find his forever family—and he’s bringing plenty of charm and joy along with him.Irwin has grown into a big, happy dog with a wonderfully puppy-like spirit. He’s put on a little extra weight, so he’s hoping to find a Valentine who’s excited to share regular walks, healthy routines, and feel-good adventures to help him stay happy and thriving.Irwin has lived with kids before and truly adores them. However, because he has absolutely no concept of personal space (his love language is very enthusiastic closeness!), he isn’t toddler-approved. A home with older, dog-savvy kids who can appreciate a big, affectionate presence would be the sweetest match. As always, a full family meet-and-greet is encouraged to make sure hearts align. On walks, Irwin is thrilled to see other dogs and greets them with his signature joyful energy. He’ll need a family committed to continued training—especially polishing his leash manners and helping him channel that excitement in positive ways. He hasn’t lived with other dogs or cats, so slow, thoughtful introductions will be important for future friendships.Irwin is also a big fan of cozy downtime. He does well in his crate when left alone (which helps keep his playful curiosity out of trouble!) and absolutely loves toys—if it squeaks, bounces, or can be proudly paraded around, it’s already his favorite. He rides nicely in the car and is always ready for new adventures, fun outings, and lots of sniff-filled exploring. With walks, training time, and other positive outlets for his energy, Irwin truly shines. And for the family willing to give him guidance, structure, and lots of love, he promises something pretty special in return: loyalty, laughter, and a lifetime of happy wiggles. If you’re searching for a fun-loving, affectionate Valentine who’s ready for adventures and snuggles alike, Irwin might just be your perfect match.Bring the whole family (older kids included!) to meet him and see if this sweet boy steals your heart.

Story
Meet Humphrey: Your Lovable Little Valentine (with a Vacuum Setting) Humphrey’s journey to love hasn’t been the easiest, but you’d never guess it by looking at him now. This resilient little guy has bounced back beautifully and is ready to find a forever home filled with cozy couches, warm snuggles, and humans to adore. Once he gives you his heart, it’s yours for life.Sweet, goofy, and bursting with personality, Humphrey is the total Valentine package. He’s housebroken, crate-trained, rides great in the car, and has done well with other dogs and respectful, dog-savvy cats. His playful charm and affectionate nature make him the kind of companion who quickly steals hearts… and maybe your personal space, too.Every love story has a quirk, and Humphrey’s is that he lives life on “real-life vacuum mode.” If something is on the floor, he may try to taste-test it—and that habit has led to two past surgeries to remove intestinal blockages. Because of this, Humphrey needs an adult-only home with someone attentive, tidy, and committed to careful management. With the right structure and supervision, he can absolutely thrive and live a happy, love-filled life.Potential canine siblings will need to come in for a meet and greet, and any cats in the home should be dog savvy. For the experienced, detail-oriented dog lover with a good sense of humor, Humphrey offers something truly special: endless affection, loyal companionship, and a whole lot of cuddles. If you’re ready to outsmart a four-legged vacuum and gain a devoted Valentine in return, Humphrey is waiting to steal your heart.
