Meet Bettie: Your Gentle, Laid-Back Best Friend!
5 Years Old | Great Dane/Labrador Mix | Fostered in Kent, WA | Adoption Fee: $300
If your idea of the perfect dog is a sweet, mellow companion who loves naps, snuggles, and simply being by your side, Bettie might just be your dream come true!
Bettie is a beautiful 5.5 -year-old Great Dane/Lab mix with soulful brown eyes, adorable little dimples when she smiles, and a heart of absolute gold.
Her story began in a New Mexico shelter, where she arrived severely emaciated and was eventually placed on the euthanasia list simply because the shelter was out of space. This quiet, unassuming girl was easy to overlook, but we knew she deserved a second chance. After spending time in a foster home in New Mexico, Bettie made her way to Washington in hopes of finding the forever family she deserves.
And what have we learned about Bettie? This girl has mastered the art of doing absolutely nothing—and she's pretty fantastic at it!
What Makes Bettie So Special?
In so many ways, Bettie is an incredibly easy dog. She's quiet, house-trained, non-destructive, walks nicely on a leash, and has wonderful manners. She's affectionate without being overly demanding and perfectly content to spend her days snoozing nearby while you work, relaxing on her favorite bed, or enjoying some quality cuddle time.
Her favorite things include:
Napping like it's her full-time job
Snuggling with her humans and enjoying belly rubs
Car rides—she's an excellent passenger!
Short, leisurely walks with plenty of sniffing
Yummy snacks (food is definitely the way to her heart!)
Curling up in bed with her favorite people
Gently tapping you with her paw when she'd like a few more pets
Bettie isn't looking for an adventurous, on-the-go lifestyle. She's a true homebody who genuinely appreciates the slower things in life. While some dogs need endless exercise and entertainment, Bettie is happiest simply being included and loved.
She's an especially wonderful match for someone who works from home, enjoys quiet evenings, or wants a devoted companion without the demands of a high-energy dog.
Bettie's Ideal Home
Bettie is happiest in a calm, predictable environment where she can relax and enjoy life at her own pace.
Other Pets: Bettie is dog selective and prefers her personal space. While she does well passing other dogs on walks and has peacefully interacted with calm, respectful dogs, she isn't comfortable with energetic dogs or those who want to play. We are seeking a home where Bettie can be the only dog. She has, however, lived successfully with cats and done wonderfully with them!
Medical Considerations: Bettie has been diagnosed with Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVDD), a spinal condition affecting the discs between her vertebrae. Her condition was identified early and has responded well to conservative treatment. She will need a lower-impact lifestyle, some simple precautions to protect her spine, and a family prepared for the possibility of future veterinary care. We're happy to discuss her diagnosis, long-term outlook, and care needs in greater detail with interested adopters.
Family & Lifestyle: Bettie would thrive with someone who appreciates a quieter lifestyle. Because of her medical needs, a home without young children would be best. She's a wonderful match for someone who works from home, a retired individual or couple, or anyone looking for a loving, low-energy companion.
Why Bettie Is So Special
It's important to understand that having specific needs doesn't make Bettie a high-maintenance dog. For someone whose home and lifestyle naturally align with hers, she's about as lovely and easygoing a companion as you could hope for.
She doesn't need endless exercise, constant entertainment, or a busy social calendar. She asks for very little: a peaceful home, a comfortable place to rest, thoughtful care for her physical needs, and people who love her.
In return, you'll get a loyal, affectionate, wonderfully well-mannered best friend with the sweetest squishy jowls, soulful droopy eyes, and a personality that makes her impossible not to adore.
Bettie's Adoption Fee: $300
Bettie's adoption fee is $300. This helps offset a portion of the veterinary expenses already incurred during her care while also ensuring that prospective families understand the financial commitment of adopting a dog who may require ongoing medical attention.
Our priority is finding Bettie a family who is prepared to support her long-term health and give her the loving, comfortable life she deserves.
Could You Be Bettie's Person?
After everything she's been through, Bettie's wish list is pretty simple:
A soft place to sleep. A few good snacks. Gentle walks. Lots of snuggles. A family who understands her needs. And a home she never has to leave again.
Bettie doesn't need a complicated life to be happy. She just needs the right one.
And for the person lucky enough to give her that, we think she's going to be an absolute dream.
Currently fostered in Kent, Washington.
