Bettie is a 5-year-old Great Dane/Black Lab mix with a gentle soul, big brown eyes, and the sweetest little dimples that crinkle up when she smiles. Bettie came into the Roswell, NM shelter emaciated- you could see all her bones- and was eventually placed on the euthanasia list simply because the shelter was out of space. In a crowded shelter, this mellow, unassuming big black dog was easy to overlook but we knew she deserved the chance to be someone's baby again. Bettie was chosen to come to Washington in hopes of finding a family who will appreciate her wonderfully slow and calm personality. She is spayed, house trained, walks nicely on leash, and is even cat friendly. She clearly knew what it was like to be loved before she was abandoned because she is well-mannered.  Her favorite things include snuggling with her humans, snoozing with all four legs straight up in the air, standing in a kiddie pool, yummy snacks, and even more snoozing. She can frequently be found with a big smile stretched across her face.  Bettie would be perfectly happy with a soft place to sleep, someone to cuddle beside, a few good snacks, and a family who will love her as deeply as she deserves. She gets along with other equally mellow dogs but would also be fine as an only dog or in a home with kitties. Grits is an enormously tall and gorgeous Great Dane. He is very sweet, but needs to come inside and also have a fenced yard. He pulls on a leash. He should not be with other dogs because he plays too hard and makes the other dogs mad. He is fine with children. Grits is 4 years old and has no health issues. Grits was my daughter's dog and lived in an apartment for 2 years. She had a baby and is a single mom now. She couldn't walk Grits and the baby so we stepped in and brought him to live with us and our Great Dane. They get along most of the time but have started fighting lately. The two enormous dogs are too much for us as we are senior citizens. Grits does not have registration papers.

FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME NEEDED Meet Rookie! Rookie is an 11-month-old, 52 lb Great Dane mix who came to us from an overcrowded shelter. This big, lovable puppy is sweet, playful, outgoing, and ready to find a family who will help him grow into the incredible adult dog he’s meant to be! 4-Year-Old Neutered Male Great Dane | Gentle Soul | Looking for His Safe Place When Othello first arrived, he was completely shut down—frozen in fear and unsure how to exist in a world that had never been kind to him. But little by little, he’s been learning that life can be good… that people can be gentle… and that love doesn’t have to hurt. Today, Othello is blossoming into the dog he was always meant to be. These days, he loves playing with his dog friends—something we aren’t sure he ever had the chance to do before. Watching him discover joy, play, and connection has been nothing short of incredible. He’s wonderful with other dogs and truly needs one in his new home—a calm, social, and ideally female companion who can show him the ropes and help him continue to grow in confidence. This happy little guy seems to wake up every morning convinced it's going to be the best day ever. By the time you've spent five minutes with him, you'll probably feel the same way. His foster family is guessing part Dane because of his long legs, big feet, and goofy demeanor. Whatever breeds came together to create this handsome boy, they gave him the sweetest personality, the cutest floppy ears, and the perfect balance of playful puppy energy and laid-back cuddles. Flame is everything you'd hope for in a puppy. He's friendly, social, curious, and always excited to make a new friend. He approaches life with so much enthusiasm that it's hard not to smile watching him explore the world around him. Whether he's trotting around with one of his favorite toys, investigating something new, or simply soaking up all the attention he can get, Flame is happiest when he's included in the fun. Speaking of toys... this boy loves them! He enjoys chasing after toys, proudly carrying them around, and playing a good game of tug-of-war. He's still working on the whole "bring it back" part of fetch, but he certainly has the chasing part mastered. Once playtime is over, though, Flame is more than happy to settle down for some affection. He's a sweet, loving puppy who enjoys being close to his people and has a wonderful off-switch after he's gotten his puppy energy out. Flame is currently fostered in a home with two precious little girls and other dogs, and he's fitting right in. In fact, one of his favorite places to be is snuggled up in the girls' arms, soaking up all the love and attention they have to give. His gentle, affectionate nature makes him a joy to have around, and he loves being part of whatever his family is doing. He's already crate trained and generally does very well in his kennel. Potty training has also been off to a great start, and he's been learning where the appropriate potty places are. Like any young puppy, he'll likely need a little reminder once he arrives in a brand-new environment, but with consistency, patience, and routine, we expect him to continue making great progress. Flame is also a smart little guy who already knows how to sit and takes treats so gently from your hand. He's eager to learn, loves his treats, and has all the makings of a puppy who will enjoy continuing his training with his forever family. Like all puppies, Flame will need continued socialization, training, and guidance as he grows into adulthood.
