ABOUT LUNA Meet princess Luna, a 4-year-old Husky mix seeking a patient, experienced owner who understands her unique personality. Luna arrived at HAP, scared and unsure of the world around her. While we don’t know her full history, it’s clear she has endured some hardships. It took her a while to trust us, so she may need patience at your first meeting, but once she feels safe, her true self shines through! Luna is a sweet, playful, and wonderfully goofy girl with a classic Husky sassiness. She’s vocal about her feelings, loves playing with toys of all kinds, and enjoys chasing tennis balls. She thrives spending time outside sniffing, running, and playing. Once inside, she loves to curl up on her fluffy blankets and chew on her bones. Luna has a “less is more” quality, she’ll leave you wanting more, and she appreciates a slower, respectful approach when first meeting new people. While Luna has been able to pass other dogs with redirection, she hasn’t made any canine friends yet and may do best as the only pet in a home where she can be the pampered princess. Once she feels comfortable, she seeks out and enjoys affection, but she communicates her boundaries clearly and may escalate if her space isn’t respected. For this reason, Luna would thrive with older, respectful family members who understand and honor her communication style. ABOUT CHESTER If you're looking for a gigantic snuggly buddy, Chester is your guy! This handsome man is a 6-year-old Husky mix with a huge body and even bigger heart. Chester came to HAP when he was found as a stray. Sadly, his owners did not want to reclaim him, so now he's hoping for a fresh start! Understandably, his first few days here, Chester was very confused to be in a shelter. Despite those initial worries, he really began to shine connecting with our staff and volunteers! At just under 90 lbs., Chester is a big boy who gets super excited to see his friends. He can be a little strong on leash if he sees a squirrel or bird, naturally. However, he is already house-trained and super food motivated to learn. Chester has thrived in our Doggy Day Out program, enjoying breaks from the shelter with our volunteers. Check out what a few had to say about him: "Chester was so much fun today!! He is such a happy boy and loved going on a walk in Newark with us. He was unbothered by other people and dogs and was content doing his own thing. He has a lot of energy on the leash but listens really well. He is definitely food motivated and did great sitting and taking treats. We opened the windows for a few minutes and clearly he loved that haha anyone would be lucky to have this ball of energy join their family!" - Jenn "Chester was such a good boy. We went to a few parks. He was a very good passenger although I think he would have liked to ride in front at times. He’s so big and athletic that getting in and out of the SUV was so easy for him. He did well in passing others while walking. He didn’t bark the whole time we were out. He knows how to sit and give his paw. I’m not so sure about down, though. He is so gentle when he takes treats. He really loved the frozen treat that I gave him." - Karen "A great morning with Chester! We went for a 2.5 mile walk around the UD campus and he made lots of friends with everyone walking by. He pulls a lot when he hears a squirrel but is otherwise unbothered on the leash, he just needs a quick circle back now and then to make sure all his friends are with him. He wanted booty scratches and belly rubs from all the strangers and was snuggled up all close and personal with them. Jake and Gracie are a deeply bonded pair of senior dogs who must stay together. Affectionate, loyal, and low-maintenance, they thrive in a calm, predictable home where they can relax near their people. Gracie, an 8-year-old Rhodesian Ridgeback, is gentle, independent, and very low energy. She’s happiest resting somewhere warm and enjoys companionship without needing constant attention. She’s food-motivated and easygoing. Jake, an approx. 8-year-old mixed breed, is affectionate and loves cuddling and praise. While he has moderate energy, he does best with short bursts of activity and settles well at home. He can be reactive on leash and has a strong prey drive, so a home without other pets is important. They do well with a secure yard, don’t require daily walks, and are happiest in a quieter adult home. They simply want to stay together and be loved.

Luna is a smart and active girl, as many huskies are, and she’ll do best with an owner who understands the breed and can meet her physical and mental needs. She can be selective with other dogs, so careful introductions are important, and she would do best in a home without cats. We also recommend a household without small children, where her boundaries and energy level can be respected. On walks, Luna is enthusiastic and tends to pull on the leash, so continued training will help her become a more polished walking companion. With consistency, patience, and positive reinforcement, she has great potential to learn and grow. Luna is full of personality and is ready to bond deeply with the right person or family. This is our lovely Teo this is a really hard decision to make. We just adopted Teo about a month ago she does not get along well with our cats it is making her very stressed out we have allergies to her as well unfortunately including my 1 year old and newborn sneezing coughing and rashes this is all breaking our hearts We want her to go to a loving home. With lots of space to run that will give her the love as much as we do she’s fully up-to-date on her vaccines and just recently got spayed this beautiful little girl is a year in five months although she does play rough she is really good with kids all we ask of you is please please please take care of her and love her as your own
