Story
Nala is a beautiful, husky-looking mix, about 2 years old, who came to the shelter when her owner could no longer care for her. She’s on the smaller side for a husky and has a calm, gentle demeanor. Outside, she enjoys being active and can pull on leash at first but is easy to redirect—she’d make a great walking or jogging partner. She’s food-motivated ( loves pepperoni!), takes treats gently, and knows how to sit. Nala warms up at her own pace. She doesn’t immediately seek attention but allows all handling and, once comfortable, will come over for pets and treats. In the yard, she enjoys sniffing, running, and has shown playful behaviors like chasing and play bows after a few minutes to settle in. She’s done well around other dogs, showing interest but remaining easily redirectable. Notably, when approached by a loose dog on a walk, Nala stayed calm and close to her handler. She returns to her kennel easily and unleashes without issue. Nala is a sweet, tolerant, and quietly confident dog who just needs a little time to shine. Videos Nala loves pets: https://youtube.com/shorts/tIVsfuXGoQc?si=4rOmdJO4AvI5py8X Nala getting pets: https://youtube.com/shorts/xhw0mj6pzI8?si=WDgCCatjnEJtdLnJ Behavior Volunteer 1/4: Volunteer 1/4: nala was laying against surgery kennel door. Perked up as soon as I went towards the door. Outside, nala is good on leash- she seems to love a walk or better yet, jog. On our walk, a dog from across the street got loose and charged us. Nala was calm and stayed behind me while dog barked/ lunged. Nala did great at photoshoot and meet new people. Returning her to her small kennel, her leash got stuck. She was VERY tolerant as I had to fish it out. Per volunteer 1/3: I took Nala out with another volunteer. In the yard she sniffed and did her thing. She would come over for treats but didn’t take any. She also didn’t want to play. Once she was out for a little bit. She started taking treats off the ground. She began chasing and running to initiate play, even play bowing. She then also started taking treats from us. Nala also came over for some pets. She just needed a few minutes to relax outside and she did great! She’s a gorgeous dog and on the smaller side for a husky/husky mix. Staff 1/4: Kennel Presentation: At the front of the kennel, sitting down. She had soft eyes, ears forward and neutral body language. Leash Skills: Easy to leash and pulled hard outside. She was easy to redirect and loves pepperoni. Sociability: Fairly social. She does not ask for pets but did allow all handling. She takes treats gently and knows sit. Play: she enjoyed running around the pen with me but did not play with any toys. Dog Interaction: Saw dogs in the distance pulled some towards them but was able to keep moving with a kissy noise and treats Return to Kennel: Walked right into kennel and unleashed without issue. Color Level: Exp Gold ACCT Philly is located at 111 West Hunting Park Ave in Philadelphia. We are open for adoptions 7 days a week. Please visit www.acctphilly.org/adopt for details.
