Story
Nala is a beautiful, husky-looking mix, about 2 years old, who came to the shelter when her owner could no longer care for her. She’s on the smaller side for a husky and has a calm, gentle demeanor. Outside, she enjoys being active and can pull on leash at first but is easy to redirect—she’d make a great walking or jogging partner. She’s food-motivated ( loves pepperoni!), takes treats gently, and knows how to sit. Nala warms up at her own pace. She doesn’t immediately seek attention but allows all handling and, once comfortable, will come over for pets and treats. In the yard, she enjoys sniffing, running, and has shown playful behaviors like chasing and play bows after a few minutes to settle in. She’s done well around other dogs, showing interest but remaining easily redirectable. Notably, when approached by a loose dog on a walk, Nala stayed calm and close to her handler. She returns to her kennel easily and unleashes without issue. Nala is a sweet, tolerant, and quietly confident dog who just needs a little time to shine. Perked up as soon as I went towards the door. Outside, nala is good on leash- she seems to love a walk or better yet, jog. On our walk, a dog from across the street got loose and charged us. Nala was calm and stayed behind me while dog barked/ lunged. Nala did great at photoshoot and meet new people. Returning her to her small kennel, her leash got stuck. She was VERY tolerant as I had to fish it out. Per volunteer 1/3: I took Nala out with another volunteer. In the yard she sniffed and did her thing. She would come over for treats but didn’t take any. She also didn’t want to play. Once she was out for a little bit. She started taking treats off the ground. She began chasing and running to initiate play, even play bowing. She then also started taking treats from us. Nala also came over for some pets. She just needed a few minutes to relax outside and she did great! She’s a gorgeous dog and on the smaller side for a husky/husky mix. Staff 1/4: Kennel Presentation: At the front of the kennel, sitting down. She had soft eyes, ears forward and neutral body language. Leash Skills: Easy to leash and pulled hard outside. She was easy to redirect and loves pepperoni. Sociability: Fairly social. She does not ask for pets but did allow all handling. She takes treats gently and knows sit. Play: she enjoyed running around the pen with me but did not play with any toys. Dog Interaction: Saw dogs in the distance pulled some towards them but was able to keep moving with a kissy noise and treats Return to Kennel: Walked right into kennel and unleashed without issue. Story
Hermes was brought to ACCT Philly by an officer who picked him up and transported him safely to the shelter. During intake, Hermes stayed calmly by staff, allowed himself to be leashed without issue, and followed nicely once on leash, showing early signs of good manners. In the shelter, he is easy to leash, walks politely beside his handler, pulled mildly outside and takes treats very gently. While he tends to be a bit aloof and independent, he enjoys respectful interactions and has shown sweet moments of affection, like hopping up briefly for attention before bouncing away. Hermes does well with other dogs, greeting calmly and engaging in relaxed parallel walking without pressure to play. 📽️Videos Meet Hermes: https://youtube.com/shorts/BLc9OjqkfKw?feature=share Frosting and Hermes Meet: https://youtu.be/1RsAALMjZyE Hermes and Cranberry Meet: https://youtu.be/1nCHMHcKUCk ⭐Behavioral Notes Per volunteer 1/4: Hermes is very easy to leash and remove from kennel. He was very easy to take out and seem to be low - medium energy when walking through the parking lot . When we got in the yard he showed his adorable personality playing with toys and soliciting affection. I was able to take the toy easily and continue playing. He is a very handsome and sweet boy 12/24/2025 per staff Kennel Presentation: At the kennel door when I approached. Neutral body, tail down, soft eyes with ears forward. Took a treat gently through the bars. Leash Skills: Easy to leash, walked right next to handler through kennels. Would randomly pull mildly when outside. Sociability: Aloof most of the time. I did some consent petting and he just stood there with his head in the other direction. When I sat on the bench he did jump up on me and then bounce away. Takes treats very gently. Play: did not interact with any of the toys. Dog Interaction: Met Frosting and Cranberry. soft and loose body, nice parallel walking not fully interested in play. Return to Kennel: Went right into his kennel without hesitation. Story
Iceberg was brought to ACCT Philly on December 28, 2025 after police observed him abandoned on a highway. This young husky was found alone, with no owner information available, and was transported safely to the shelter. Upon intake, Iceberg appeared lethargic and was quickly sent for further medical care to ensure he received the support he needed. Since arriving at the shelter, Iceberg has shown himself to be a gentle and sweet dog who is still adjusting to the kennel environment. He can be nervous and somewhat fearful in his kennel, especially with transitions like doorways, but he warms up quickly once out and about. Outside of the kennel, Iceberg’s friendly personality shines through—he enjoys affection, seeks out gentle pets and butt rubs, and has been described as very easy to handle despite his size. He has shown playful, bouncy energy when meeting other dogs and continues to build confidence with positive experiences and kind handling. 📽️Videos Met pepper jack: loose, bouncy and playful: https://youtube.com/shorts/mFcGz_XmYiQ?si=WlVFfGYXw8KjU38r ⭐Behavioral Notes Per volunteer 1/4: I had iceberg out for the photoshoot on 1/4. Iceberg was very easy to leash and get out of kennel. He is friendly and sweet when out of kennel and in the runs- trying to solicit affection and butt rubs. Despite his size he is very gentle. 01/03/2026 per staff Fearful in kennel, sitting in the back and would not come to the front door but easily leashed when I used the back door of the kennel. He was nervous walking through doorways on the way to the office but warmed up quickly once in the office! Approached staff with loose body, allowed handling for harnessing, and rolled on his back for belly rubs. He got right in the car for his day trip and was much more confident just 5-10 minutes after leaving the kennel! 01/01/2026 per staff Somewhat fearful going in and out of kennel.
