Meet Billie! 🐾
Billie came to the shelter as a stray on September 24th, and when she first arrived, she was understandably a little hesitant about her new surroundings. She needed some time to settle in and figure things out—but once she got comfortable, Billie really started to shine! 💕
Billie is currently spending her days as an office foster, and this environment has given her the chance to come out of her shell and show everyone what a sweet girl she is. She can be left out of her crate throughout the day and does a great job relaxing in the office. When it’s time to settle down, Billie will even go into her crate when asked!
Billie is a bit of a picky eater and seems to prefer grazing throughout the day rather than eating one big meal. She can also be a little vocal at times, but that just adds to her personality.
At around 4 years old and 45 pounds, Billie is a great medium-sized companion who is looking for someone willing to give her the patience and time she needs to continue building confidence.
Billie has had some good dog meets here at the shelter! She would likely do best with another calmer, easygoing dog who can help her feel comfortable and give her space when needed.

Behavior notes 📝:
Per Staff 10/2/2026:
Last couple of days Billie has been able to hang out in the office free roaming. Any time I come back in she is just relaxing on the blanket on the floor In front of my desk. She does well going back into her crate.
She has been pretty picky with food. She did eat a little bit of baby food and tuna.
Per Staff 9/30/2026:
Had a loose body, mid to low tail wags, ears back. Did some stiff bouncy moves and play bowd with me in the office. I moved over towards her blanket where her food and toys were. She moved with me and stood over her food, very lightly mouthed my hand then stood with a tenser body, low still tail, ears back and harder eyes, let out a short growl and I backed away. The other staff member in the office was able to approach her and move her into the crate, moving her food with her for the night.
Per staff 9/30/2026: Brought Billie into the office and she was such an angel during the day. She would come over soliciting attention, nudging my hand when i would stop petting. Then she would go lay down on the blanket i placed in front of the desk. She would go right into the crate when i needed to leave the office without hesitation.
Playgroup 9/29/2026:
1/5 with water and 4/5 with can.
Hopped on the bench when she entered and remained there whining occasionally. Gave a vocal correction for space when Harpo tried to sniff her.
Per staff 9/29/2026: During my morning walk through I noticed Billie had 4 clips on her kennel card indicating that she has not been out in four days. She has in the back of the crate barking when I approached. Had to lasso to leash, not eating high value treats. Once the leash was on she came right out of crate. Mildly pulls on leash. Immediately went to the bathroom outside. Leaned into all handling would nudge my hand when I would stop petting. Went right back into the crate and used the clip leash to remove the leash. Later decided to bring her into the office and when I went to get her out of the crate she did not need to be lasso'd this time. Billie slowly came to the front and her head was lowered and able to leash. In the office she explored and then came over to me putting her legs on my lap leaning into all handling.
Per staff 9/24/2026: Kennel Presentation: Barking and growling when I approached the kennel. Wide eyes, ears forward and tense body. Was not eating any treats
Leash Skills: Moved to the back of the crate, continuing to bark and growl, paw lighting and avoidant of gaze. Had to lasso to leash. Once leashed she came right out and walked with minimal pulling.
Sociability: Leaned into all handling with loose body, mid tail and soft eyes. Would nudge my hand or arm placing her head under it.
Play: n/a
Dog Interaction: In playgroup 9.24
Return to Kennel: Hesitated slightly to go back in, was able to remove leash with hand.
Color Level: Exp Blue - hopefully in a couple of days can Level her down.
Playgroup 9/24/2026:
Steer Test: 4-5/5 with water and 4/5 with can.
Stress yawns at the fence. Moving away, tail low, ears pinned back. Handler oriented and was hiding behind the handlers.
