I am at Oakland Animal Services in kennel Dog E:5 Meet handsome Cobalt! Here at the shelter, he’s been an absolute gentleman. He walks nicely on leash and relishes gentle pets and attention. He loves to play with toys, especially tug-of-war—he can be a little mouthy in his play style, though is easily redirected. He’s also a big fan of treats and takes them politely and gently. On a recent field trip, Cobalt showed what a great companion he will make, proving unreactive to people, bikes, runners, and wildlife. He acted so happy, and enjoyed sniffing and exploring while taking direction and letting his person set the route. He passed big and small dogs respectfully and was easily redirected if another dog was reactive when walking his way. He had energy to spare but was ready to settle in for a calm car ride with affection and treats when the outing was over.  Cobalt is a calm but energetic boy, and while he may never be a social butterfly enjoys affection and companionship with his people. He can get overwhelmed in some situations and will need slow introductions to busy/chaotic environments, looking to his people for confidence. Training and routines are a great way to help him. He has gotten along well with other respectful dogs and has a nice calmer energy. He would do best in an adult-only home with an experienced small dog adopter. Cobalt arrived at the shelter in desperate need of a glow up and will require continued coat maintenance throughout his life. This dog is available to meet by appointment only. Ginsburg may have been an adventurer in his youth, exploring the city in search of excitement and street snacks, but now he's ready for the comforts of a warm, loving home. Having seriously neglected his beauty routines during his wild phase, Ginsburg is now being pampered with soapy baths, a stylish buzz cut, skin-soothing meds, and soul-soothing cuddles. He's just the sweetest, friendliest guy around, and is clearly so happy to finally be cared for and comfortable. Ginsberg gets along great with other dogs! He has a decent amount of energy for a senior and would love regular adventures and walkies. He is very sweet and adorable! Here's some notes from his foster: Ginsburg is gregarious and cuddly! He is great with people and other dogs he meets on walks. Because he practically always runs and never walks, he could potentially overwhelm a dog sibling who goes at a slower pace than him. Aside from marking his territory on Day 1, he has had zero accidents indoors. He also knows "sit" and "stay," so I think he has had some basic training in a past life. He loves walking around in the neighborhood and in parks. Commercial areas might be over-stimulating; he likes to try and enter almost every store, and he gets a bit restless when he's inside a store. He does talk quite a bit; when he's excited, when he senses strangers near the house, when he's left alone. (But he is treat-motivated.) I have not yet left him alone for a long period of time. He would be a great addition to any home!
