Don't blink, you might miss this gentle little ghost of love. Peek a Boo may have a little trouble seeing the world clearly, but she feels every bit of kindness around her. With vision that's more "abstract art" than HD, she moves through life at her own pace: slow strolls, soft landings, and lots of lounging. Patience is the key to her heart, and once you unlock it? You’ve got a snugglebug for life. Sweet, serene, and surprisingly sassy when the mood hits, she's the perfect companion for anyone who appreciates the quieter things in life.

Story
Not unlike the famous Beach Boys song, when you meet this beautiful long-legged Maltese mix dudette, you too will wish they all could be California girls! Our sweet California has proven herself to be a bit of an extrovert which served her well in her previous place of employment. She tells us she had loads of fun meeting tourists on the Hop On-Hop Off bus, and providing interesting information about San Francisco as well as her namesake state. At 13 years of age, we think this lovely, agile gal would also have fun taking a walk through Golden Gate Park on a foggy morning. At 13 pounds she could prove to be the perfect partner for a morning or early evening stroll. She loves treats (don’t we all?) and is very polite, gentle and exceedingly sweet. She invites you to come any time to Muttville HQ, make her acquaintance and have a nice visit! Here's some notes from her foster: California is sweet and gentle with long legs that she uses to her advantage. For a senior dog, she moves easily and happily goes on walks up and down hills. She’s great on the leash, on stairs, and in an elevator. And she is excellent on toilet breaks - no messing around. On first meeting she may seem a bit shy but she warms up quickly especially if you have treats. She can ride on buses and go to the pharmacy at Walgreens (accompanied by her human of course). She loves little squeaky toys and will play fetch to a limited degree. But her favorite activity is eating treats and cuddling on the couch. We think she is a little hard of hearing which helps her cope with living in the noisy city, but she has learnt to sit on command with the right hand gesture (and a treat). She would make a great companion for someone, and loves to snuggle up. She sleeps soundly through the night and during the day likes to cuddle, nap, get head and belly rubs, and go out. (She’s pretty good at letting you know when she has to go out.) She doesn’t like to eat much in the first half of the day, although she does like her dinner and will accept treats anytime! She hasn’t barked yet, but lets you know she’s missing you. She has a kink in her tail so it may have been broken at some point. She lets bigger dogs know that they can’t boss her around, and we’ve been gradually introducing her to off-leash play with other dogs which is going well. (Since we don’t have a cat or kids we don’t know how she reacts but seems to be very comfortable with people.)

Story
I am in a foster home and not at the shelter. If you are interested in adopting, submit an adoption questionnaire by email. Learn more hereThis dog is available to meet by appointment only.  Millie is a 4-year-old, 10-pound Maltese mix who’s looking for a calm, loving home where she can feel safe and understood. Life hasn’t always been easy for this sensitive girl, and she needs time and space to build trust—but for someone patient and experienced with shy, defensive pups, Millie has so much love to give. In her foster home, Millie has been slowly coming out of her shell. She enjoys spending time with other small dogs, walks politely on leash, and is starting to show interest in toys. She's mostly house trained, uses pee pads, and loves her meals—especially when there’s cheese involved. Millie has a skin condition (pyoderma) that requires regular medicated baths and vet follow-up, and she’s been a great sport about it once she feels secure. She’s looking for an adult-only home with an adopter who understands that trust is earned, not rushed. With time, patience, and a gentle routine, Millie will blossom into a loyal, loving companion. If you believe in the beauty of a slow-growing bond, Millie is waiting for you! Click here to learn how to adopt and submit your adoption questionnaire.May 5, 2025, 12:39 pm

**COURTESY REHOMING POST** Toa is not a CACC dog. We have not met him nor evaluated him and can't attest to his health or temperament. Please use the contact information listed to reach out and learn more. Tao, a part of our CACC Courtesy Rehoming Program, is a 2-year-9-month-old pup looking for a special kind of home—one filled with patience, understanding, and a heart willing to help him feel safe. Though he was loved by his previous family, they could no longer care for him, and he now needs someone who truly understands very shy dogs.Tao is naturally cautious around new people and situations. When he feels overwhelmed or insecure, he may react defensively, so he needs a steady, experienced person who can recognize his boundaries and gently guide him toward confidence. Tao may not be the kind of dog who thrives in every situation, but he is the kind of dog who will deeply bond with the right person. If you have the experience and heart to help this little soul find security and love, Tao is waiting for you. For more information on Tao, please email glxssy.naia@gmail.com

Story
Poor Mochi was neglected severely matted and very dirty at a distant shelter. Shelter had him shaved down by a kind groomer who donated her service. ð&#194&#159&#194&#146&#194&#156ð&#194&#159&#194&#152&#194&#141 He did get a nick on his tail from shave down. Needed a bandage on his tail. He was badly matted to his skin. Now he feels so much better. Happy and lovable. Mochi has been great with the foster home's 2 dogs cuddly polite friendly and very sweet. He is an absolute love very sweet snuggly polite and affectionate. Mochi loves his healthy foods and cuddling with foster mom. He will rest learn and get healthy and then will get his neuter surgery. More info. to come. Update: Mochi needs a new experienced and confident guardian. He did great at his first temporary foster home with their two dogs. Loved cuddling lounging and quiet home with yard. Now that is feeling better and comfortable... They have biz travels so he was moved to a foster home monday evening in San Francisco with another dog. City life is too noisy and busy for him. High foot traffic on walks. Too much for him while he is adjusting and learning. At first foster home in San Jose with quiet neighborhood and backyard he was calmer and relaxed. Need experienced foster home to guide and train him on walks to not do reactive barking at new dogs. He loves to cuddle and very sweet. Good with her dog at home. 3/30/25 Update: Mochi is now doing better with his SF foster home. Learning. Now house-trained. He is very social and friendly with people and likes playing with other small dogs that he meets. Good with gentle and dog saavy older kids. On walks he is still learning and may do reactive barking at large dogs so he needs a confident and experience handler to train him not to bark at other large dogs on walks. He did reactive barking at his first dog showcase. He needs continued training to not react and ignore as needed or it can get worse if over coddled and not trained. Mochi likes playing with toys and chewing on his bully stick. He would love a home with another dog playmate. He plays and snuggles with foster home's dog. 5/12/25 Update: Mochi is now learning and doing better with not barking at other larger dogs on his walks. Still work in progress. He did well at a small dog park with less dogs. He loves his muliple daily walks and playing with another dog at home. Mochi sleeps in the bedroom and loves to lounge on her sofa. He is still learning and doing great. Need confident and experienced guardian to continue his training to not do reactive barking on walks.May 13, 2025, 1:44 pm

Story
This little gem is a medical special needs pup. Sasha is a very sweet and easy going 3 year old Bichon mix; she is about 11 pounds. She loves all people and dogs and enamors everyone she meets. She walks well on leash, sleeps through the night in her crate, and does relatively well with her alone time. She has an adorable way of getting one's attention and loves to play with other dogs. Unfortunately Sasha was most likely hit by a car at some point and her spine is broken in her lower back. She has full use of all her legs, but she's completely incontinent. Her foster assists her to empty her bladder 3-4 times per day (easy to do, and a potential adopter could be taught to do it). If she is assisted to empty her bladder, her diaper stays dry and her fur stays clean. Due to her condition, Sasha is prone to UTIs, but helping her to empty her bladder regularly decreases this potential. Luckily she doesn't show any signs of pain and has a full life expectancy. Sasha will need to live with someone who is home most of the time. She'd probably do best in a home with a yard, so she doesn't always have to be in a diaper, but she would also be an easy dog for an apartment dweller as she doesn't necessarily have to be walked first thing in the morning and last thing at night. Since Sasha is "non-shedding, she will need regular grooming. Grateful Dogs Rescue incurs substantial veterinary and other expenses in rescuing our dogs. In order to recoup some of these costs, we request a tax-deductible donation for each adoption. The suggested donation for Sasha is $200. If you are interested in adopting Sasha, please complete our online adoption application at  https://www.gratefuldogsrescue.org/adoption-process/   . One of our volunteers will get back to you. Adoptions are local, confined to the SF Bay Area. We will consider applicants outside the 9-county San Francisco Bay Area for Sasha, as long as applicant is able to travel to Oakland for meet and greet, and pick up.
