Story
**COURTESY REHOMING POST** Toa is not a CACC dog. We have not met him nor evaluated him and can't attest to his health or temperament. Please use the contact information listed to reach out and learn more. Tao, a part of our CACC Courtesy Rehoming Program, is a 2-year-9-month-old pup looking for a special kind of home—one filled with patience, understanding, and a heart willing to help him feel safe. Though he was loved by his previous family, they could no longer care for him, and he now needs someone who truly understands very shy dogs.Tao is naturally cautious around new people and situations. When he feels overwhelmed or insecure, he may react defensively, so he needs a steady, experienced person who can recognize his boundaries and gently guide him toward confidence. Tao may not be the kind of dog who thrives in every situation, but he is the kind of dog who will deeply bond with the right person. If you have the experience and heart to help this little soul find security and love, Tao is waiting for you. For more information on Tao, please email glxssy.naia@gmail.com

Story
Don't blink, you might miss this gentle little ghost of love. Peek a Boo may have a little trouble seeing the world clearly, but she feels every bit of kindness around her. With vision that's more "abstract art" than HD, she moves through life at her own pace: slow strolls, soft landings, and lots of lounging. Patience is the key to her heart, and once you unlock it? You’ve got a snugglebug for life. Sweet, serene, and surprisingly sassy when the mood hits, she's the perfect companion for anyone who appreciates the quieter things in life.

Story
I am in a foster home and not at the shelter. If you are interested in adopting, submit an adoption questionnaire by email. Learn more hereThis dog is available to meet by appointment only.  Millie is a 4-year-old, 10-pound Maltese mix who’s looking for a calm, loving home where she can feel safe and understood. Life hasn’t always been easy for this sensitive girl, and she needs time and space to build trust—but for someone patient and experienced with shy, defensive pups, Millie has so much love to give. In her foster home, Millie has been slowly coming out of her shell. She enjoys spending time with other small dogs, walks politely on leash, and is starting to show interest in toys. She's mostly house trained, uses pee pads, and loves her meals—especially when there’s cheese involved. Millie has a skin condition (pyoderma) that requires regular medicated baths and vet follow-up, and she’s been a great sport about it once she feels secure. She’s looking for an adult-only home with an adopter who understands that trust is earned, not rushed. With time, patience, and a gentle routine, Millie will blossom into a loyal, loving companion. If you believe in the beauty of a slow-growing bond, Millie is waiting for you! Click here to learn how to adopt and submit your adoption questionnaire.May 5, 2025, 12:39 pm

All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, shots current (DHPP, Bordetella and Rabies where applicable), dewormed, flea and tick treated, and microchipped.  * If you are interested in a dog, please first read the biography on the dog (keep scrolling down for the bio!) and then go to our website, www.dpsrescue.com for an application. Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee. This dog will be at Palo Alto Pet Food Express on Saturday, May 3rd from 12-3pm or until adopted. If you would like the first opportunity to adopt, please fill out an application to be considered.   Adoption Fee: $650   Meet Duncan – the silver fox of your dreams, freshly groomed and ready to dazzle!   Duncan is a 9 year old Maltese-Poodle mix who just got a fresh shave so his signature luscious, long locks can grow back in all their glory. Don’t let the short 'do fool you—it’s temporary, and underneath it all is a future fluffy superstar. As a non-shedding dog, Duncan is a great option for allergy-sensitive households. And with Malti-Poos often living well into their late teens (16, 17, even 18!), Duncan is just hitting his stride in midlife—think cruise control with occasional bursts of puppy playfulness.   Duncan came to us when another rescue was out of space, and he trotted right into our arms like he knew he’d found his people. At 12 pounds, he’s the perfect size for lap lounging, couch cuddling, and light adventuring. He’s a happy little guy with a spring in his step and a heart full of love. His favorite things? Following you around the house, sunbathing in the backyard, and curling up for a TV marathon with his humans. He’s a fabulous work-from-home buddy who’s just as content chilling quietly as he is heading out for a walk or a romp with a doggy friend.   Duncan has an easygoing daily rhythm—snoozing in until 8am, greeting the morning with tail wags, and heading out for potty time before breakfast. He spends the day lounging near his people, collecting snuggles, enjoying a few tasty treats, and sneaking in an afternoon stroll or backyard sun session. By evening, he’s a certified lap warmer, winding down with you until it’s time to head off to bed.   He’s crate trained, walks beautifully on a leash, and has lived happily with other dogs. Duncan is a perfect match for just about any home—first-time dog families or seasoned pet parents alike. Kids should be 5 or older to ensure everyone respects his chill vibe.   If you’re looking for a sweet, soulful companion with just the right amount of pep, Duncan is ready to be your loyal sidekick. He may be nine, but he’s living proof that midlife is when the magic really begins. Come meet your next best friend—Duncan’s waiting!  May 2, 2025, 4:29 am

If you would like the first opportunity to adopt, please fill out an application to be considered.   Adoption Fee: $550 Her name might be Kitten, but this 4–5 year old Maltese–Shih Tzu mix is all dog—14 pounds of quiet bravery wrapped in a soft, non-shedding coat. Rescued from the shelter, Kitten isn’t the kind of dog who’ll come bounding up to greet you or demand belly rubs from the start. Instead, she’s a quiet observer, a careful tiptoe-er, and someone who watches from a distance until she decides the coast—and you—are safe. But when she chooses you? It’s magic. Kitten is the kind of dog who feels her world deeply. Loud noises, sudden movements, unfamiliar people—those things still send her looking for her safe space. She doesn’t growl or bite. She retreats. She wraps herself around the person she trusts or scurries to her pen where things feel calm and predictable. While she hasn't been mistreated, Kitten simply hasn’t seen much of the world yet. Life overwhelms her right now—but with the right home, she’s already showing glimmers of who she’s meant to be. This little lady is incredibly smart and completely house-trained. She knows the potty routine, gently whines when she needs to go out, and settles beautifully in her crate at night. She’s even beginning to explore the joy of toys—like when she surprised everyone by chasing a squeaky ball one day, reminding us there's a playful pup waiting just beneath the surface. She's not a barker unless the doorbell rings or something startles her (she takes her neighborhood watch duties seriously). Kitten would thrive in a peaceful home that offers plenty of predictability, gentle routines, and an understanding heart. A calm environment without the energetic bustle of young children or other pets would give her the best chance to truly blossom. She’s happiest when she knows exactly where her belongings are, when she can enjoy her meals and toys without interruption, and when she has space to be her sensitive, soulful self. She shines brightest as the center of someone’s quiet world. She’s not a first-time-dog-owner kind of pup—she’s for someone who’s walked this road before, who knows that some dogs bloom slowly and that trust is a gift that unfolds day by day. Every day, Kitten grows a little bolder. From the pup who once barked from behind a gate, she now ventures over for pets and quietly settles nearby just to be close. She stretches one hind leg at a time in the morning (it’s ridiculously cute) and looks at you with the kind of eyes that say, “I want to trust you. I just need time.” Kitten doesn’t need fireworks. She needs consistency. She needs someone who will celebrate her small victories and understand that the path to her heart is slow—but oh, is it worth it. If you're the kind of person who can offer love without pressure and patience without expectations, Kitten is ready to let you in.  May 13, 2025, 12:35 pm

Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee.Adoption fee: $750 Meet Ping Pong — Your Velcro Shadow with a Heart of Gold   1–2 year old Male Maltipoo | Fluffy Lovebug in Training   Ping Pong may have come from a rough start — rescued from the shelter as a matted little mess — but he’s left all that behind and is blossoming into the beautiful, affectionate, joyful pup he was always meant to be. After a full shave-down to free him from the mats, his gorgeous coat is now growing back in and promises to be luxuriously soft and fluffy. Spoiler alert: even his paw pads are baby-soft.   This sweet boy has the heart of a cuddler and the energy of a puppy. He’s bouncy, playful, and always ready for a game of fetch or tug. Ping Pong has a collection of toys that he proudly carries around, and he’s especially fond of tossing soft toys in the air and catching them with flair. One of his signature moves? Draping his favorite long stuffed animal around his neck like a fashion statement.   Ping Pong thrives on companionship. He’s a classic velcro dog who wants to be as close to his favorite human as possible — whether curled up on your lap, snoozing at your feet, or following you from room to room. That said, he’s comfortable being left at home and will settle into his favorite cozy spot to nap until you return.   Daily Life with Ping Pong:   Wakes up with the sun (around 6 AM), tail wagging and ready to play   Eats three meals a day as we help him gain weight — though he prefers a human nearby so he doesn't miss out on attention   Enjoys three walks daily after meals and is great on a leash — no pulling, no barking at birds or squirrels   Sleeps soundly at night, often flat on his back with paws in the air   Not crate-trained but is well-mannered in the home and knows when it’s potty time (just hasn’t quite figured out how to ask yet!)   Personality Snapshot:   Affectionate & Loyal: Deeply bonded to his person, sweet with other family members, and tolerant of kids’ noise and antics   Energetic & Playful: Loves toys, fetch, and tug — but just as happy to snuggle up for a nap afterward   Quiet & Gentle: Not a barker unless startled, not food-obsessed, and doesn’t beg or guard food   Low-maintenance grooming (for now): Though when that coat grows back, he’ll be a cloud with legs!   Ping Pong doesn’t live with other pets but has shown excellent tolerance for kids and would likely do well in a home with gentle children or other dogs. He’s still got some puppy energy to burn, so regular walks and playtime are essential, but he balances that beautifully with his deep desire to be a cuddle bug.   Ideal Home: Ping Pong would thrive with someone who enjoys a lap dog, a snuggler, and a loyal little sidekick. He does play favorites, so he might bond especially closely with one person, but he’s sweet and respectful to everyone.   Why Ping Pong? He’s soft, sweet, soulful, and snuggly. He doesn’t yap, doesn’t beg, and doesn’t mind if you pick up his food mid-meal. He’s got a big heart, a playful spirit, and an unshakable calm that makes him truly special.   Ping Pong is ready to find his forever person — could that be you?    May 20, 2025, 12:14 pm
