Thier Foster Parent Says: "Noelle is a super sweet, affectionate couch potato. She is very chill, and sleeps a lot. Her favorite thing to do seems to be to get cozy on soft blankets on the couch and rest next to me. She loves to be pet, especially scratches on her chin, cheeks, and behind the ears. She’ll rest her head on my lap for scratches, and sometimes, if I stop, she’ll swipe her paw along her cheek to demonstrate how she’d like to be pet more. She doesn’t seem too interested in playing with toys yet, but she does like the Kong and enjoys finding hidden treats in the snuffle mat. She also takes really well to training, and learned to “sit” very quickly. I don’t think she requires (or desires) much exercise, but she’s great on walks, doesn’t pull, and is not reactive. She does like to politely greet other dogs and people who pass by. I live alone, but suspect she’d do well with other dogs, and probably with children, as long as they are gentle with her because she is very gentle, does not jump, growl, or chew on anything that isn’t food. Because of the cold weather, we haven’t had a chance to be in crowded social settings, but she’s been calmly friendly with visitors and people we pass on the street. My neighborhood is fairly quiet, but there are a lot of people out and about, and my apartment can have some noise from the BQE and construction. She sometimes alerts to loud noises, but quickly loses interest. So, I think she’d be fine in any city setting. After a week, I still haven’t heard her bark! She doesn’t show any signs of separation anxiety when I leave, but the only time she’s had a potty accident was while I was gone. Otherwise, she is potty trained, and goes right away when we go outside. The key words I’d use to describe her are sweet, calm, mellow, quiet, affectionate, and gentle. She’s an all around good girl who just wants to be a cozy companion."
Level of dog ownership experience needed:BEGINNER BUT PATIENT: This means we predict this dog will be low on the challenge scale due to its breed/age combo. Potentially a good fit for someone who has relevant dog care experience (fostering, dog sitting) and is looking to adopt their first pup. This pup came from a hoarding situation so it's learning how to be a dog, needs someone who is patient and understanding.
Energy levelLOWER: Pretty chill indoors and won’t demand endless amounts of stimulation and exercise but still needs a few walks a day (10-30 min each) for potty breaks and to stretch their legs
Okay in the city?We don’t know yet. Most adult dogs do well in the city after they’ve had time to adjust to a new environment, but some never adapt and need homes in the burbs.
Potty trained?Probably! Adults usually are, but all will have transitional accidents for the first week or so. A consistent walking route and schedule plus finding spots with grass or dirt can help.
Social with other dogs?Yes, but we don’t know to what degree yet. Some like to wrestle with every passing pup, others can coexist well but prefer to keep to themselves. We’ll learn more soon.
Social with cats? Not sure yet! Some breed mixes that are generally NOT great matches for homes with cats include large hounds, huskies, and shepherds.
Comfortable with children? (ALWAYS requires adult supervision)We’re not sure yet, but we try to err on the side of caution. Respectful kids ages 8 and up are probably a safe bet. Children must always be monitored and taught to interact with dogs of any age respectfully.
Medical statusHealthy as far as we know. Up to date on their DHPP, Bordetella, and Rabies vaccines; heartworm tested if coming from the South or Puerto Rico ; spayed/neutered; microchipped; treated with dewormer upon intake
How this dog ended up with Social Tees:Most of our dogs come via partner groups who help us save them from shelters where they are at risk of euthanasia in Tennessee, Los Angeles and Puerto Rico. There are very few spay/neuter resources there and many more animals in those areas than there are people to adopt them. Rescue groups like ours bring them to the northeast where the desire for pets like these allows us to save their lives.
PLEASE NOTE: We cannot guarantee any breed mix, exact age, or full grown size (if the dog is under a year old). We do our best with very educated guesses though!
This animal is not at the Social Tees office, all are in foster homes.
