Story
Take one baby Ewok, mix with a red panda, add a tiny mohawk. Warm in a lap until done. Ding! You've got Toast Yay!, a fluffy caramel sweetie guy who you'll mistake for an expensive plush toy until he blinks. At that point, you'll want to take him home. A little shy at first, he is friendly thereafter, a potential family favorite looking for a snug love harbor of his own.

Story
All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, shots current (DHPP, Bordetella and Rabies where applicable), dewormed, flea and tick treated, and microchipped.  * If you are interested in a dog, please first read the biography on the dog (keep scrolling down for the bio!) and then go to our website, www.dpsrescue.com for an application. Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee. This dog will be at a meet and greet event on Saturday, February 24th unless he/she is adopted prior to the event with a set up home. The event is from 12 pm to 3 pm at Palo Alto's Pet Food Express. Those interested in meeting the dog can come out to our meet and greet event. We no longer do application approval onsite. Anyone adopting has been previously approved and set up to meet prior to the event. Adoption Fee: $600   Princess Belle is a 5 year old Yorkie mix who is looking for her Prince Charming! This gorgeous gal was surrendered to the shelter when her family was moving, and our volunteer scooped her right up and promised her a life of luxury. This itty bitty gal weighs around 6 pounds, so she will be the perfect size for any home (or magic slipper).    Below is a note from Belle’s foster.  “Princess Belle always has a smile on her face and a wag in her tail! She adores cuddling and giving kisses and is an utter joy to have in our home. Belle is the perfect mix of playful and cuddly. She is happy to charge around with a toy, but is also more than thrilled to curl up in a tiny ball and snuggle when it’s time for rest. Belle is fully house trained as well and knows how to keep her castle clean. She is already trained in “sit”, “stand”, and “let’s go”! She does an adorable dance when she is excited! This sweet, smart, gorgeous girl is going to make her forever home find their happily ever after from the moment they meet her.  Belle starts her morning at 8 AM with a walk before she gets breakfast. After her breakfast, she takes a luxurious nap on the couch before she spends some time playing with her toys. She gets a snack at noon if she is hungry before her afternoon walk. After dinner around 7, she snuggles up on the couch with us until it is time for one last potty break and then bedtime. She sleeps through the night in her playpen.   Belle gets along well with dogs and cats. She’s a bit scared of big dogs, but only due to her teeny size. She loves people, and would love a friendly playmate of any age in her new home, whether canine or human! Belle walks very well on the leash! Like any terrier, she has her opinions, but who doesn’t! Anyone who adopts Belle will have a lifetime of love ahead of them!”   Belle is an option for homes with prior dog experience, even if that experience is less recent or not personal dog ownership. Kids in the home should be over the age of 8.February 25, 2024, 11:29 pm

Anyone adopting has been previously approved and set up to meet prior to the event. Adoption Fee: $500   Wally is a 2 year old Yorkie x Chihuahua mix who was surrendered to DPS after being given to a family friend of his former home. This loving boy wasn’t given what he needed to thrive previously but we made him a promise his forever home would be his dream come true. This 14 pound boy is the perfect size to cuddle, and what could be better than that!    Below is a note from Wally’s foster home.  “Wally is a sweet and loving boy who blossoms as he gets to know and love you. At first, he was very scared and nervous but as he settled in, he started showing us his cuddly and sensitive personality. Wally has a very soft coat that makes him a joy to pet for hours at a time. Wally has slowly shown us how patient, gentle, and intelligent he is as we have gotten to know him. He loves a soft bed to snuggle in after coming in from a rainy day walk, which he braves in a rain jacket! Wally is starting to show interest in toys, especially as he watches our other dogs play. Wally loves pets and will give us a nudge when he doesn’t think he has gotten enough love yet. Wally will be a wonderful addition to a home ready to give him the time and love he needs to settle in, and then he will give you a lifetime of faithful companionship.  Wally wakes up at 8 AM for his morning stretches and pets. He gets a walk and then comes home for breakfast. During the day, Wally hangs out and snoozes as I work from home, going out for bathroom breaks as needed. We take another walk between 5-6 PM and he loves observing the world as it goes by. He has dinner around 7 PM and then snuggles with us and our dogs until bedtime at 10:30 PM.  Wally gained his confidence watching our other dogs “dog” and would do very well with a canine companion in his forever home. Wally is very observant and will be fun to train for his lucky forever home. Wally is learning how to walk on a leash and is doing great so far! He does well when he can watch our other dogs, especially when the world is big and scary. He responds very well to praise which is helpful as we introduce him to more experiences. Wally has been a wonderful dog as we have gotten to see him open up to us and we know his patient forever home will be lucky to have him.”   Wally is only an option for homes who have owned a dog in the past 5 years, and we will prioritize homes who currently own a dog. Kids in the home should be over the age of 12.February 25, 2024, 11:29 pm

This petite gal may have had a rough start to her life that we wish we could ask her about, but she is eager to get started on the new life we promised her! Gemma has a lovely coat that is lighter shed, so she may be an option for those with either lighter allergies, or who just want less hair around the house! Below is a note from her foster. “Gemma is the sweetest goofball in the entire world! If she could spend her entire day cuddled up next to you in a pile of blankets, she would (and she does now)! Gemma’s adorable mohawk goes from the top of her head to the tip of her tail, and has a foot that is in a constant “plie” ballet position”. She loves to show off her bunny hops when she is excited, which delights everyone who meets her. She is well loved by everyone in the neighborhood and by all the volunteers at DPS. She adores her fluffy blankets and happily burrows into them throughout the day. She is so loving and absolutely adores her people, she could truly not be a sweeter and lovely dog.  Gemma wakes up at around 7 AM. She gets three walks a day: 8:30 AM, 4 PM, and 9 PM. She eats at 9 AM and 6 PM. During the day she hangs out in the house with our dog and gets her tan on. Gemma is a lounger but she still shows off her playful side! She gets along with our 15 month old Jack Russel mix and we sometimes spot them play wrestling which is very cute. She also gets along with our other foster, a nursing mom and her puppies. She does very well on walks and loves going outside. Gemma is fully housetrained. She is the perfect “go with the flow” dog. She is happy to go on an adventure but is also happy to chill for a movie night. She is also absolutely adorable to boot.” Gemma is an option for just about any kind of home, regardless of prior dog experience. Kids in the home should be over the age of 7.February 25, 2024, 11:29 pm

Story
Tiny Julian was neglected in his prior years and never saw a vet. A kind person took him in and took him to her vet for basic vet care. He was under-weight and very skinny at 4 lbs and was loaded with worms. After a month with her she asked us to take him in since she now has to work 12 hour days. Julian is calm but prefers someone around more. He is now 5.6 lbs and needs to eat healthy and fresh foods to improve his overall health. He did fine with our vet. Julian loves to play with foster home's small dog. After just one day he enjoys his walks and meeting other dogs. Another dog helps him feel safer and happier. He needs time to feel safe and relax at his home. First day photo so he was nervous of camera. More info and new photos. to come. He needs someone to spoil him with the best food and care! Julian is a cutie and precious.February 26, 2024, 12:13 am

Story
Fiona is just the sweeeeeeetest little nugget in the land! After a traumatic stay at the shelter, she is just so grateful to be out of the shelter and in a warm and cozy foster home surrounded by love. Our little Fi is good with other dogs and, after a little rocky start, is doing well now with the cat in the home. She's a playful girl and is starting to do her zoomies through the house!! We think that she is 10 years old and she's about 8 lbs (she is working on gaining weight. Fiona is a cuddlebug and will do well in most any home.
