*Note: Currently, Tongky, is in Korea but will be arriving in San Francisco once adopted. For more info about the dog or the adoption application, pleae click here.BackgroundTongky was one of eight small dogs abandoned together in a rural area of Paju. Most of the dogs were Maltese and Spitz and were believed to have come from a breeding facility. After being abandoned, they were taken to a local high kill shelter. With no adopters coming forward, Tongky was placed on the euthanasia list. Thankfully, he was rescued before that could happen. After his rescue, Tongky joined his first foster family, where he lived in an apartment with a young elementary school aged child for four months. He then moved to another foster home with a quiet young couple, where he has continued to thrive in a home environment.Unfortunately, due to personal circumstances, his current foster family can only care for him until the end of June. We are hoping to find Tongky the loving forever home he deserves so he can finally settle into a family of his own and never have to experience another transition again.Personality and SocializationTongky can be a little shy when meeting new people, especially men. However, once he feels safe and comfortable, his sweet and affectionate personality quickly emerges. He forms strong bonds with his people and loves attention and companionship. He is currently very comfortable with his male foster parent and enjoys spending time with him.Tongky gets along very well with other dogs and has shown good social skills in foster care. He like dogs who are friendly and respecful and are not too dominant. He has also lived successfully with a young child and would be suitable for a home with respectful children.BehavioursTongky loves going for walks and is easy to handle on leash. He enjoys exploring the world around him and looks forward to his daily outings. He is cooperative during grooming and bath time and handles routine care very well. Tongky rides reasonably well in the car. He may whine a little if sitting alone in a car seat, but settles with reassurance and enjoys being close to his people. He does not show signs of separation anxiety and has not displayed any aggressive behaviours. Tongky uses pee pads when needed and prefers to do his bowel movements outside during walks. He has a wonderful balance of energy. He enjoys running around and playing when it is time for fun, but he is equally happy to relax quietly beside his family when the day winds down.Health and DietTongky is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and has been routinely dewormed. He receives monthly parasite prevention. When he was rescued, Tongky tested positive for heartworm. He successfully completed treatment and has been declared heartworm free. He has also received a full veterinary examination. He is healthy and ready for his forever home.Tongky eats regular kibble with a healthy appetite and has not shown any known food or environmental allergies.Ideal HomeTongky has experienced abandonment and uncertainty in his past, but he has never stopped believing in people. Beneath his slightly shy first impression is a loving, loyal companion who simply wants to be close to those he trusts. His ideal family is one that understand his gentle nature, and offer him the stability he has always deserved. In return, Tongky will reward them with affection, companionship, and unwavering loyalty. After everything he has been through, Tongky is ready to leave his past behind and begin a new chapter with a family who will love him forever.*Note: Currently, Tongky, is in Korea but will be arriving in San Francisco once adopted. For more info about the dog or the adoption application, pleae click here.

Story
Smiley senior Opal was likely named for her stunning colors and her core belief that she’s a gem of a dog. We dare you to look this marvelous Maltese in the face with out breaking out into a grin yourself – Opal just inspires happiness and joy. Opal is here to make friends and meet new people, with a positive attitude and a grin from ear to ear. Does she love a good treat? Absolutely. Human attention? She’s always down. The only thing this little lady needs to take her life from good to great is a forever home filled with love like she’s filled with positivity. If you’ve been feeling a conspicuous, Opal shaped hole in your life, we have just the thing for that! Here's some notes from her foster: Opal is a gentle, sweet senior with a quiet charm all her own. At 14 years young, she can still surprise you with a burst of speed when the mood strikes! She has been the perfect houseguest, settling into her routine with ease and looking to her people for reassurance as she navigates new surroundings. As Opal becomes more comfortable, she's beginning to enjoy gentle pats and soft scratches behind her ears. While she's not a velcro or lap dog, the moments she chooses to sit nearby or quietly check in on you feel especially rewarding. She has a calm, independent spirit and builds trust at her own pace, making every little sign of affection feel like a gift. Opal also seems to enjoy car rides and is always happy to tag along on an adventure. She's shown a friendly curiosity toward other dogs and appears interested in making new canine friends. If you're looking for a peaceful companion who asks for little but offers quiet, heartfelt companionship in return, Opal may be the perfect match.

Story
* To be considered for a meet/adoption, please read the full biography to see whether they may be a good fit for your home, then submit an online application at www.dpsrescue.org.* This dog will be at the Palo Alto Pet Food Express on Saturday, July 11th from 12-3 PM unless adopted prior to the event.   All DPS Rescue dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, flea/tick treated, and microchipped prior to adoption.   Adoption fee: $800   Chauncey is proof that sometimes the sweetest hearts come from the hardest beginnings. This darling 5 year old, 12 lb Maltese mix (with a non-shedding coat) came to us from a hoarding situation, but instead of letting his past define him, he's embracing each new experience with quiet curiosity, unwavering loyalty, and an endless supply of cuddles. Every day, Chauncey grows a little braver, and watching him discover how wonderful life can be is nothing short of magical.   A Gentle Soul Who Loves His People   If you're looking for a shadow with four paws, Chauncey may just be your perfect match. More than anything, he loves being close to his favorite humans. Whether you're working at your desk, watching television, reading a book, or relaxing after a long day, Chauncey is happiest curled up beside you— or even better, tucked into your lap.   He's affectionate without being demanding, content to quietly nap under your arm or rest beside you while you go about your day. His foster says that no matter how stressful the day has been, Chauncey is always there, ready to offer comfort with a cuddle.   Smart, Curious, and Ready to Learn   Despite his difficult past, Chauncey is eager to experience the world. He approaches new places with cautious curiosity, taking everything in through careful observation and plenty of sniffing. Whether he's exploring the neighborhood, visiting a quiet pet store, or checking out a new walking trail, he wants to see what life has to offer— especially if his favorite person is by his side.   He's also incredibly food motivated, making training a breeze. Meals are often served in puzzle toys or snuffle mats because he genuinely enjoys using his brain. In foster care he's already learned 'up,' is making great progress with 'sit' and 'wait,' and absolutely lights up when treats are involved. You can practically see the wheels turning as he figures things out.   The Perfect Mix of Adventure and Couch Companion   Chauncey is wonderfully adaptable. He's happy to head out for a neighborhood stroll, ride along for errands, or simply spend the afternoon lounging nearby. His daily walks are a highlight, and he even does adorable little bunny hops when he's excited to head out.   When it's time to relax, though, he's all about snuggling. He's truly a go-with-the-flow companion who doesn't need constant entertainment—just the company of the people he loves.   A Social Butterfly in Training   Chauncey has made incredible progress learning that the world is a safe place. He warmed up surprisingly quickly in his foster home and has built wonderful relationships with the resident dog and even the household cats. At first he kept his distance, but now he happily follows his canine foster sibling around and has even been known to nap beside the cats.   He's polite with new people, especially those who let him approach at his own pace. Offer him a treat and a calm introduction, and you'll likely earn a gentle sniff and a new friend. While he can still be nervous around busy environments and lots of activity, his confidence continues to blossom with patient guidance.   Home Sweet Home   Chauncey thrives on routine. His day starts around 7:00 a.m. with a potty break, followed by breakfast (preferably in a fun puzzle feeder) and then a relaxing morning spent near his people. He enjoys a midday walk, afternoon naps, dinner, and sometimes an evening adventure before settling into his crate for bedtime.   He's crate trained for overnight sleeping and does very well once tucked in. He's also nearly housetrained and has made excellent progress, especially with consistent potty schedules. Since he has a speedy metabolism, regular potty breaks throughout the day help set him up for success.   His Perfect Match   Because of his past, Chauncey can still be startled by sudden movements and is particularly cautious about feet—he seems worried about accidentally being stepped on. His ideal family will understand that building confidence takes patience and kindness.   He'd love a quieter home with adults or older, gentle children who can respect his space. A calm canine companion could be a wonderful bonus, but he'd also be perfectly happy soaking up all of the attention as your one-and-only.   He also has an alert bark and likes to let you know when someone is at the door, so a home rather than a busy apartment would likely be the best fit.   Why You'll Fall in Love   Chauncey doesn't ask for much. He isn't looking for grand adventures or endless excitement. He's simply searching for someone who will love him, help him continue building confidence, and save a little room on the couch.   In return, you'll get a loyal best friend, an enthusiastic cuddle buddy, a smart little student who's eager to learn, and the joy of watching a dog discover just how wonderful life can be.   If you're ready to open your heart to a gentle soul who's already proven how resilient love can be, Chauncey is ready to meet you. He has survived his past—now he's ready for the forever family that will help him write the happiest chapter yet. July 11, 2026, 12:52 am

This adorable 8 month old, 8 lb Maltese mix (non-shedding) came to our rescue from the shelter alongside Bunny, who we believe is her mom, and she's been charming everyone she meets ever since. Equal parts sweet, sassy, playful, and cuddly, Briar somehow manages to act like a wise little grandma one minute and a goofy puppy the next.   A Perfect Mix of Playful and Chill   Briar starts every morning full of joy, eager to greet her people and her canine foster siblings. After letting herself out for a potty break, she's happy with whatever comes next— breakfast, a cozy snuggle on the couch, or a game of chase with her foster brother.   For such a young pup, Briar has an impressively calm personality. She happily entertains herself while her foster mom works, alternating between playful zoomies, leisurely naps, and keeping an eye on the neighborhood from the backyard. In the evenings, she's ready for another play session before curling up on the couch for cuddles and ending the day sleeping peacefully in her crate.   A Little Collector with a Big Personality   One of Briar's favorite hobbies is bringing her foster mom gifts. Whether it's a stick she proudly found or a fallen avocado from the backyard tree, she loves carrying her treasures inside to show off. It's just one of the many quirky things that makes her so lovable.   She also has the funniest little vocalizations. Her foster family says that when she's first left alone, she sounds like a tiny baby dinosaur! Thankfully, she settles quickly once she realizes everything is okay.   Everyone Is a Friend   Briar truly loves people. From the moment she arrived in her foster home, she acted like she'd lived there forever—running outside to potty, hopping onto the couch, and asking for snuggles.   She's affectionate without being demanding. She's perfectly content simply hanging out near her people, but if you're offering belly rubs or cuddles, she'll happily be first in line. Her big expressive eyes and adorable little tongue peeking out make it nearly impossible to tell her no.   Dog-Friendly with a Dash of Diva   Briar gets along wonderfully with the small dogs she's met. She respectfully gives older dogs their space while enthusiastically wrestling and playing with younger ones. Like any confident little lady, she has a bit of a diva streak and isn't afraid to let her foster brother know when playtime is over— or when she'd prefer to have her humans all to herself for a few minutes of snuggle time.   At mealtime, Briar prefers to enjoy her dinner without interruptions and would benefit from continued positive training around sharing space with other dogs while eating.   Smart Cookie   Briar is house-trained, uses the backyard to potty on her own, and sleeps quietly through the night in her crate. She loves chewing on bully sticks but hasn't shown destructive puppy chewing around the house.   She's very food motivated, already knows 'sit,' and is eager to learn, making her a wonderful candidate for continued training.   Her Perfect Home   Briar could fit into many different types of homes. She would love a family that will continue her training, especially around her resource guarding and confident puppy personality, so she grows into the wonderful adult dog she's already well on her way to becoming.   Because she can be vocal when she hears interesting noises outside, a house may be a better fit than a very quiet apartment setting.   Why You'll Love Briar   Her foster describes Briar as an old soul trapped in a puppy's body—and we couldn't agree more. She's sweet, silly, affectionate, playful, a devoted little house guardian, and an enthusiastic fan of belly rubs. She somehow balances puppy fun with an easygoing personality that makes her a joy to live with.   If you're looking for a companion who will make you laugh with her tiny dinosaur noises, proudly present you with backyard treasures, keep you company while you work, and happily curl up beside you every evening, Briar is ready to become your new best friend. July 11, 2026, 12:52 am

Story
If there ever was a dog who needed human kindness and love, it is Ziggy. Ten-year-old Ziggy, a Poodle/Bichon mix, has spent much of his life being overlooked and neglected. When no other rescue was willing to step forward, CACC opened its doors, and its heart, to this deserving little dog. Years of neglect took a devastating toll. Ziggy lost his vision, most of his teeth, and faced several other medical challenges. Yet somehow, the hardships he endured never dimmed his sweet spirit. He still greets each day with trust, a wagging tail, and a heart full of love. After everything he has been through, Ziggy still chooses joy. He is a beautiful reminder of the resilience of dogs. Despite the difficult life he has known, Ziggy remains a gentle, affectionate soul who enjoys the company of people, other dogs, and likely even cats. He can be silly, playful, and even mischievous at times. Most of all, he loves being close to his people and sharing the simple happiness of everyday life. Ziggy adores curling up in a warm lap and is happiest when he";s simply included in whatever you're doing. He has learned to navigate the world without sight and adapts remarkably well to new environments. Once he learns the layout of a home, he moves around with surprising confidence, happily trotting toward the sound of a familiar voice. Blindness doesn"t define Ziggy; it is simply one small part of who he is. Fully potty trained, Ziggy sleeps soundly through the night in his x-pen without needing a potty break. Even more amazing, he is a very low-maintenance companion who requires only minimal accommodations for his blindness. His future family will simply need to help him gradually explore the outdoors and, most importantly, shower him with the love and affection he has gone without for far too long. These days, Ziggy finds joy in life's simplest pleasures: a tasty treat, a gentle cuddle, sniffing around the yard, or stretching out for a nap in a sunny spot. He doesn't need grand adventures or endless activity. What he longs for is a safe home, a soft bed, and someone whose voice he can learn by heart. For most of his life, Ziggy has known what it feels like to be unwanted. We want his next chapter to be different. We want him to know what it means to be cherished, protected, and deeply loved. What Ziggy wants most now is simple: comfort, companionship, and a family to call his own. In return, he offers the kind of devotion that only a grateful old soul can give. Though he cannot see the people who love him, he feels their kindness completely. If you have room in your heart for this extraordinary little dog, please let us know. Opening your home to Ziggy may be one of the most meaningful acts of kindness you'll ever make, and one of the most rewarding. Some dogs leave paw prints on your floor. Dogs like Ziggy leave paw prints on your heart forever.

She was given a second chance and is now living in a foster home with a single woman in an apartment. She has settled into home life beautifully and is ready to find a loving family of her own.Personality and SocializationShe is a gentle, affectionate, and easygoing dog who loves being around people. She enjoys attention and will happily come over for pets and affection whenever someone is nearby. She is friendly with people of all ages, including children, and is equally comfortable with both men and women. She also gets along well with other dogs and lived peacefully with many dogs at the shelter. When out for walks, she shows little interest in cats and simply continues on her way.BehavioursNoonoo is a relaxed companion who adapts well to daily routines. She is currently working on being left alone. Like many dogs who have experienced abandonment, she initially found it difficult when her person left the house and would cry. With patient training, she has made wonderful progress. Her confidence continues to improve, and with consistency from her future family, she is expected to keep making progress.Noonoo has a calm nature and enjoys leisurely walks rather than fast paced adventures. She is currently taken outside for frequent short walks and she loves it. She is also able to use pee pads indoors when needed. Noonoo travels very well in the car and often relaxes or sleeps during rides. Bath time is also something she accepts without any fuss.Health and DietNoonoo is spayed, microchipped, dewormed, and up to date on her vaccinations. She also receives monthly parasite prevention. She has early stage degenerative mitral valve disease (Stage B1). At this stage, medication is not required. This is a common age related condition in small dogs. Many dogs live the rest of their lives without ever needing surgery, while others gradually progress to Stage B2 as they age. Regular veterinary checkups are recommended to monitor her heart health.Noonoo eats regular dry food and does not appear to be overly food motivated. She has not shown any sings of allergies.Ideal HomeNoonoo would thrive in a home with someone who works from home or is retired and can spend plenty of time with her would be ideal. She would be happy with a single person, a couple, or a family with respectful children. She could also live with another friendly dog, although she would be equally content as the only dog receiving all the love and attention. She is a sweet, calm, and loving companion who simply wants to be close to her people. After losing her home once, she deserves a family that will cherish her forever. With a little continued guidance and lots of love, she will reward her family with endless affection and loyal companionship.*Note: Currently, Noonoo is in Korea, but she will be arriving in San Francisco once adopted. For more info about the dog or the adoption applicaiton, please click her.
