All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, shots current (DHPP, Bordetella and Rabies where applicable), dewormed, flea and tick treated, and microchipped.  * If you are interested in a dog, please first read the biography on the dog (keep scrolling down for the bio!) and then go to our website, www.dpsrescue.com for an application. Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee.Adoption Fee: $400   Gemma is a 4 year old Yorkie mix who is a glimmering gemstone in the form of a cuddly and smiley pup! This gorgeous gal was rescued from the shelter after her former home was moving and decided not to take her along. Well, we promised her the best adventures ahead when we scooped her up and it’s been sunshine ever since! Gemma weighs 14 pounds and this petite gal’s heart is matched only by her fabulous ears. Gemma has a lighter shedding coat which may make her an option for those with light allergies or who just want less hair around the house.    Below is a note from her foster. “Gemma is the sweetest goofball in the entire world! If she could spend her entire day cuddled up next to you in a pile of blankets, she would (and she does now)! Gemma’s adorable mohawk goes from the top of her head to the tip of her tail, and has a foot that is in a constant “plie” ballet position”. She loves to show off her bunny hops when she is excited, which delights everyone who meets her. She is well loved by everyone in the neighborhood and by all the volunteers at DPS. She adores her fluffy blankets and happily burrows into them throughout the day. She is so loving and absolutely adores her people, she could truly not be a sweeter and lovely dog. Looking for a dog who will act like it’s Christmas morning every time you enter the room? That’s Gemma! Gemma wakes up at around 7 AM. She gets three walks a day: 8:30 AM, 4 PM, and 9 PM. She eats at 9 AM and 6 PM. During the day she hangs out in the house with our dog and gets her tan on. She is fully house trained and can keep herself occupied when needed. She would be an amazing work from home companion, or even an office dog!  Gemma is a lounger but she still shows off her playful side! She gets along with our 15 month old Jack Russel mix and we sometimes spot them play wrestling which is very cute. She also gets along with our other foster, a nursing mom and her puppies. She does very well on walks and loves going outside. She is the perfect “go with the flow” dog. She is happy to go on an adventure but is also happy to chill for a movie night. She is also absolutely adorable to boot.”   Gemma is an option for just about any kind of home, regardless of prior dog experience. Kids in the home should be over the age of 7.April 19, 2024, 6:56 am

Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee.Adoption Fee: $800   Snickers is a 2 year old Yorkie who will be the prize of any candy bowl! This handsome boy was surrendered to our rescue when his former home was no longer able to take care of his needs. We agreed to take him in and he has been winning over hearts ever since! Snickers weighs 15 pounds and has a gorgeous non-shedding coat which will require regular grooming. Snickers is an option for homes with allergies or who just want less hair around the house.    Snickers is a dude looking for his best friend. He’s the kind of dog who is happy to do anything: trips to the store, movie marathons, hikes etc as long as he can do it alongside you! Once he gets comfortable in his new home, you’ll see his big smile and wagging tail around every corner, and truly what more could you ask for! Snickers loves toys and loves playing, he would love a whole pile of toys in his forever home. He is also a cuddle monster and loves pressing up against you for a long petting session. Snickers also loves tug of war and fetch (and like a good terrier he even brings the ball back most of the time)! Snickers is very smart and food motivated, so if you have a treat he will be dancing around for you! Snickers is the perfect combination of playful lounger. He can run around with the best of them but is also more than happy to have a movie marathon on the couch.  Snickers starts his morning at 7 AM with a walk before breakfast. During the day as his people work, he sits nearby keeping everybody company or makes himself comfortable on the couch in the sun. He loves sniffing around the backyard and keeping track of the comings and goings of the squirrel population. At around 4 PM, he gets another longer walk and then a ride in the bike basket to do some errands. He has dinner at 7 PM followed by one last neighborhood romp. In the evening, Snickers plays with his toys and shows off his zoomies on the carpet before hopping on the couch for some cuddles. After one last trip outside to go potty, he settles down on the bed for the night and dreams of treats!  Snickers gets along with other dogs and loves getting his zoomies out at the park. He would be a good option as either a solo pup or a companion for a resident dog. As a smaller guy, Snickers would prefer a kid-free lifestyle, as little hands can be overwhelming for boys like him. Snickers is fully house trained and crate trained. Snickers would thrive in a home ready to have an active, loving, and playful companion. He hopes that home could be you!   Snickers is only an option for homes with prior dog experience, especially those with terrier experience. Kids in the home should be over the age of 12. April 19, 2024, 6:56 am

Basil came from the shelter with a few of his friends after his former home was no longer able to care for him. We told him we would find him a perfect forever home and it's been smooth sailing ever since. Basil weighs 13 pounds and is as happy as can be to follow you along on all of life’s adventures. Basil is a pip-squeak boy with a heart bigger than his body and he promises to make all your wishes come true if you are lucky enough to bring him home!    Basil is the sweetest pup looking for a home ready to give him the best life has to offer from toys to belly rubs to snuggles to walks to treats. This little boy has the most fabulous habit of building pillow forts and curling up on them like the king he is. He loves prancing around the house and yard with his toys as he shows off his adorable face. Basil loves his people more than anything and would love to take on the world, whether on a leash or in a doggy backpack. He has bursts of puppy energy and adores squeaky toys, but he’s also content lounging around and getting naps in. He also loves to shred paper so make sure you keep important documents away from this wannabee accountant! He would love a permanent spot on the couch in a cuddle pile, and with his little smiling face it’s hard to resist him.  Basil starts his morning at 7:30 AM with a potty break and some zoomies. This early bird always gets the best worms and happily greets the day. He waits a bit before breakfast, working up an appetite with toys and cuddles. Throughout the day, Basil loves to hang out with his people but he is also more than happy to occupy himself if needed. He loves soft beds, soft blankets, and warm laps to cuddle up on for hours at a time. At 5 PM, Basil has dinner followed by more playtime and an evening walk before he curls up for bed!  Basil gets along with the resident dog and would love a canine companion in his forever home! Basil experienced a leash for the first time in his foster home and he is learning to love exploring the world. He gains confidence as he watches other dogs and people do the thing, so he’d love to do it with you! Basil would love a home ready to put in the time to help him bloom into a confident dog. Watching Basil figure out the things he loves will be the best adventure there is for his new people!    Basil is only an option for homes who have owned a dog in the last 5 years. This teeny 5 pound gal leapt out of the shelter into the arms of her rescuer and she hasn’t looked back since! Meerkat is endlessly adorable and loving and will be the best companion for any home. She has a short coat and tiny little legs, which means she will be an amazing fit for a purse (or three). Speaking of purses, she also rocks an accessory and would love a chic wardrobe in her new home. Meerkat can’t wait to meet you and find her happily ever after!    Meerkat is the dictionary definition of “man’s best friend” for her people. To know Meerkat is to have a best friend and loyal companion for life. She has gained her confidence more and more as the days go by and has begun bounding around outside with her toys happily. She loves to sniff out all there is to smell in the yard, get her tan on on the patio, curl up on a warm blanket as the day gets colder, and collect treats for being so dang cute. Meerkat is so curious and has boundless enthusiasm for finding new things to love, and it makes her the best little friend you could want. She is so playful but can keep herself occupied when she needs to as well. As long as she has a soft toy, she’s good to go. This loving girl can’t wait to explore the world with her forever home.  Meerkat starts her day at 6:30 AM and goes right outside for a potty trip. She then comes inside for breakfast and snuggles which she soaks up relentlessly. Throughout the day, Meerkat spends her time playing and napping on repeat. Tons of toys follow her around the house and sometimes she even passes out right on top of a plush pile when she needs a break. Meerkat gets a snack around noon and then has dinner at 4:30 PM. By around 8 PM, Meerkat is pretty wiped out from a busy day of playing and falls asleep cuddling on the couch as she gets pets and kisses. After one last trip outside for potty, she heads into her crate at 10 PM.  Meerkat gets along with the resident dog and has encouraged him to play tug-of-war all day long! Meerkat has been on a few walks and has been learning the ways of the neighborhood dogs. She knows how to use the doggie door and is making progress on her potty training as the days go by. She is so adorable and we know that she will be an absolute amazing addition to just about any home, so don’t delay in applying to take her home!    Meerkat is an option for homes who have owned a dog in the last 5 years. She would love a resident dog or could thrive as a solo pup. Kids in the home should be over the age of 7.April 19, 2024, 6:56 am

Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Wee Caspian, a pint-sized brew of terrier goodness, is an undercover dog. Which is to say, he loves to spend time under covers. Duvets, blankies, a threadbare towel - he's going in and he's getting comfortable. He often exposes enormous brown peepers and a tiny mustachioed snoot to get a sniff and keep an eye on the action. You will take several hundred photos of this move and send them to your friends. When's he's not embedded, Caspian, who looks like a Yorkie version of a 1920's railroad tycoon, is making friends and influencing people, satisfying his craving for snuggles and snoogs. Take him home, love him fiercely, and watch where you sit. Here's what his foster has to say!! I am in love with Caspian! First of all, he's a looker. I've only had him a couple days but people notice how handsome he is upon first glance on walks. He sleeps in a little circle formation and loves being cuddled up in blankets. He's not the biggest fan of car rides but he still toughs them out anyway. The guy is little but he is very stoic! He's really good in apartments with noise concerned neighbors because he's very independent and appears to be fine left alone. He's very non reactive to other dogs. A dog could be barking at him and he won't make a sound and looks unphased. He would rather be outside on a stroll then at a dog run! The little guy does really well during baths and doesn't make a peep. He's really friendly with people but can get overwhelmed when there's too many (I tried to take him out on Haight St. and he was just stuck there standing staring at everyone). Even when he's overwhelmed he is a super good boy. My friend and I ate sandwiches in the park with him and he doesn't beg, really. I know whoever adopts him is going to be completely in love!

Story
Meet Olive. She is a fiesty, happy little girl. She walks well on a leash (and thoroughly enjoys her walks), loves to eat, housebroken, and sleeps much of the day away in her bed or on the couch. She came to rescue covered in filth and mats. That gave her a skin condition that required several months of treatment and recovery. But she is ready to go now. Her new adopter(s) will get the pleasure of watching her bald spots disappear! Many of those spots have fuzz on them already but a couple may ultimately remain hairless. She is only 6 pounds and cute as a button so, on walks, be prepared to hear over and over "oh, look at her...so cute". When she comes across dogs on walks, she is so excited she almost comes across aggressive. But when she gets face to face, she is so happy to meet them! Given the shape she was in when she came to us, it appears she has had a tough time in the past. She is still coming out of her shell and learning to trust. I have had the pleasure of caring for her for a couple of months thru her skin problem and she has come to trust me. It has been such a pleasure to watch. She plays with me, happy to see me, lets me put meds on, etc. She still has food aggression but, again, given her trust of me, I am now able to take her food without a problem. If you think she might fit into your home, please visit WrenYorkieRescue.org, click on Forms, fill out the adoption application, and mail in or submit online so we can set up a meet and greet.
