All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, shots current (DHPP, Bordetella and Rabies where applicable), dewormed, flea and tick treated, and microchipped.  * If you are interested in a dog, please first read the biography on the dog (keep scrolling down for the bio!) and then go to our website, www.dpsrescue.com for an application. Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee. This dog will be at a meet and greet event on Saturday, April 6th at the Palo Alto Pet Food Express from 12-3pm, unless he/she is set up and adopted prior to the event. Those interested in meeting the dog can come out to our meet and greet event. We no longer do application approval onsite. Anyone adopting has been previously approved and set up to meet prior to the event. Adoption Fee: $500 Gemma is a 4 year old Yorkie x Chihuahua mix who was rescued from one of our shelter partners. This petite gal may have had a rough start to her life that we wish we could ask her about, but she is eager to get started on the new life we promised her! Gemma has a lovely coat that is lighter shed, so she may be an option for those with either lighter allergies, or who just want less hair around the house! Below is a note from her foster. “Gemma is the sweetest goofball in the entire world! If she could spend her entire day cuddled up next to you in a pile of blankets, she would (and she does now)! Gemma’s adorable mohawk goes from the top of her head to the tip of her tail, and has a foot that is in a constant “plie” ballet position”. She loves to show off her bunny hops when she is excited, which delights everyone who meets her. She is well loved by everyone in the neighborhood and by all the volunteers at DPS. She adores her fluffy blankets and happily burrows into them throughout the day. She is so loving and absolutely adores her people, she could truly not be a sweeter and lovely dog.  Gemma wakes up at around 7 AM. She gets three walks a day: 8:30 AM, 4 PM, and 9 PM. She eats at 9 AM and 6 PM. During the day she hangs out in the house with our dog and gets her tan on. Gemma is a lounger but she still shows off her playful side! She gets along with our 15 month old Jack Russel mix and we sometimes spot them play wrestling which is very cute. She also gets along with our other foster, a nursing mom and her puppies. She does very well on walks and loves going outside. Gemma is fully housetrained. She is the perfect “go with the flow” dog. She is happy to go on an adventure but is also happy to chill for a movie night. She is also absolutely adorable to boot.” Gemma is an option for just about any kind of home, regardless of prior dog experience. Kids in the home should be over the age of 7.April 15, 2024, 10:56 pm

Story
Meet Olive. She is a fiesty, happy little girl. She walks well on a leash (and thoroughly enjoys her walks), loves to eat, housebroken, and sleeps much of the day away in her bed or on the couch. She came to rescue covered in filth and mats. That gave her a skin condition that required several months of treatment and recovery. But she is ready to go now. Her new adopter(s) will get the pleasure of watching her bald spots disappear! Many of those spots have fuzz on them already but a couple may ultimately remain hairless. She is only 6 pounds and cute as a button so, on walks, be prepared to hear over and over "oh, look at her...so cute". When she comes across dogs on walks, she is so excited she almost comes across aggressive. But when she gets face to face, she is so happy to meet them! Given the shape she was in when she came to us, it appears she has had a tough time in the past. She is still coming out of her shell and learning to trust. I have had the pleasure of caring for her for a couple of months thru her skin problem and she has come to trust me. It has been such a pleasure to watch. She plays with me, happy to see me, lets me put meds on, etc. She still has food aggression but, again, given her trust of me, I am now able to take her food without a problem. If you think she might fit into your home, please visit WrenYorkieRescue.org, click on Forms, fill out the adoption application, and mail in or submit online so we can set up a meet and greet.

Story
Meet Jessie. The first thing to say about her is how sweet and loving she is. Always so happy to be around her family. She has advanced cataracts but that doesn't seem to bother her or slow her down. She is always in the mix! She has memorized her environment which includes a 4 stair stairway! She is the favorite of many of the volunteers...just sweet sweet sweet. If you think she might fit into your home, please visit WrenYorkieRescue.org, click on Forms, fill out the adoption application, and mail in or submit online so we can set up a meet and greet. She will make you smile every day!.

Story
Wee Caspian, a pint-sized brew of terrier goodness, is an undercover dog. Which is to say, he loves to spend time under covers. Duvets, blankies, a threadbare towel - he's going in and he's getting comfortable. He often exposes enormous brown peepers and a tiny mustachioed snoot to get a sniff and keep an eye on the action. You will take several hundred photos of this move and send them to your friends. When's he's not embedded, Caspian, who looks like a Yorkie version of a 1920's railroad tycoon, is making friends and influencing people, satisfying his craving for snuggles and snoogs. Take him home, love him fiercely, and watch where you sit. Here's what his foster has to say!! I am in love with Caspian! First of all, he's a looker. I've only had him a couple days but people notice how handsome he is upon first glance on walks. He sleeps in a little circle formation and loves being cuddled up in blankets. He's not the biggest fan of car rides but he still toughs them out anyway. The guy is little but he is very stoic! He's really good in apartments with noise concerned neighbors because he's very independent and appears to be fine left alone. He's very non reactive to other dogs. A dog could be barking at him and he won't make a sound and looks unphased. He would rather be outside on a stroll then at a dog run! The little guy does really well during baths and doesn't make a peep. He's really friendly with people but can get overwhelmed when there's too many (I tried to take him out on Haight St. and he was just stuck there standing staring at everyone). Even when he's overwhelmed he is a super good boy. My friend and I ate sandwiches in the park with him and he doesn't beg, really. I know whoever adopts him is going to be completely in love!

Story
This Puddin’ flavor is probably pistachio. She’s sweet, complex, and maybe a little nutty! Puddin’ loves companionship, but is still getting used to handling by humans. She will follow you around, but then shy away if you try to put her in a harness or pick her up. Puddin’ is very comfortable around other animals. She’s also an enthusiastic leash walker once she trusts you enough to let you suit her up, though she is a little bit skittish around loud noises. Mainly, Puddin’ will need a quieter household with people willing to work with her to overcome her insecurities. If you invest that time and attention in her, she will reward you with strong loyalty and affection.

Story
Kristmas was fearful and very nervous at the shelter when we rescued her. She is a special behavior needy dog. Kristmas needs time to warm up and feel safe. She can be handled and picked up. She was neglected with matts and had very long toe nails. She was probably too isolated prior and then left in the streets. Kristmas was fine meeting another dog on leash. She was nervous at our vet but they were able to care for her and clip her long nails. She is now in a quiet foster home and relaxing. At first she stayed in her crate inside dog pen and just watched. The next day she felt safer and ate a little. Finally came out and walked out to yard for potty biz. Sniffing and hanging out with the foster home's gentle friendly small dog. Kristmas needs time to decompress and feel safe. Will need an experienced guardian and quiet home situation with attached back yard. More info. to come. She will only eat home made cooked food. Foster home makes chicken or turkey with rice and veggies. She won't eat store bought kibble nor can. Update on day 2: At foster home she is very slowly warming up. She follows their 2 dogs around and out to yard. She needs a very experienced home with another dog to feel safe. Best no kids or older kids 10 yrs and up. She will flinch at fast movement and is head shy. She needs more time in her foster home to learn and be less fearful. She slowly will jump on the sofa and go to foster mom to sniff hands. Kristmas is eating very little now and likes Weruva canned food. She is still too nervous to eat a full meal. So maybe in another 2 weeks she will be normal but shy behavior. She was probably too isolated since a puppy so new people and places make her very nervous. Need to move slow and let her set her pace to trust and feel safe. She will not walk on leash but can be guided on leash at home with another dog around. Will take time for her adjust. She is not a dog for social outings or parks. Mar 2024: She is now walking on leash with a harness. Follows people and foster home's dog on walks. She was a very picky eater but foster home makes home-made meals of meat/veggies/rice for her and their dog. She now loves her food!April 16, 2024, 1:30 am
