Story
Is this adorable sweet and Sassy diaper baby the dog for you? She can be sassy with other dogs but she really just wants to be a sweet cuddly girl with her favorite humans. Why do we call her a diaper baby, you ask? Well, she has some minor issues with her hind quarters, possibly due to a subarachnoid diverticulum cyst on her spinal cord (a congenital defect that is likely to be stable over the remainder of her life). It seems that the nerve impulses from her hind quarters are blocked or delayed getting back to her brain so she drags her back legs a bit and she unfortunately has little bowel and bladder control, hence the “diaper baby” endearment. The good news is that she does not let it stop or slow her down and she is very tolerant of wearing her diapers. She has full command of her hind legs but does not always seem to know exactly where they are at any given moment. When she is running at full tilt boogie (zoomies level 10) she tends to do power slides around corners and will occasionally trip and momentarily loose traction, but she quickly gets back up to full Husky speed. She would be great as an only dog for someone who is willing to take on a sweet diaper baby. She does exhibit some occasional resource guarding behaviors so an experienced owner would be recommended for a multi dog home. She also tends to be the play police when her foster dog siblings are trying to play. Both behaviors are relatively minor and manageable by an experienced owner. If you will consider giving this sweet (and a bit sassy) diaper baby a place in your home, she will steal your heart.      May 4, 2024, 4:41 pm

Story
Sweet Brulee is a beautiful girl with the most amazing coloring. She has a strong personality, very human centric and bonds very quickly with her humans. She walks decent on leash once some of the typical husky energy has been burnt off but could use more leash training and would do best with a very active family. She has a strong prey drive so care should be taken around small animals.  Brulee is treat motived, takes treats very nicely, knows 'sit', ‘shake’, 'down', 'stay' and crate trained. She loves playing with toys and people, but not very interested in other dogs. Brulee would most likely do best as an only dog as she loves all the attention. Anyone looking for a very active but extremely sweet girl as a companion dog, Brulee is your girl!Click here to watch a video of Brulee.      May 4, 2024, 4:41 pm

Story
Bilbo is a very sweet dog with striking looks. He's high energy some of the time, and quiet at others. The shepherd in him is guarding and alert, but the husky in him greets people easily. He does pull on the leash, but if you're someone who is outdoorsy, he'll eagerly go on long walks/runs/hikes. Bilbo does not do well being left alone so another dog would be great.  Bilbo is currently in a home with another male dog but the owners circumstances changed so Bilbo is now a NorSled boy. He sleeps in the house and is housebroken. He likes kids in his neighborhood but as with all NorSled dogs should be in a home with kids 8 years or older.        May 4, 2024, 4:41 pm

Story
Jubilee has been living in a foster home and she's really living up to her name!  She is about 12 months old and full of FUN!  This sweetheart of a puppy only weighs 40 lbs. and we don't think she'll get much bigger.   She loves all the dogs and people she meets - and they love her back! She especially loves, loves to play with her 8 month old and 2 yr old foster sisters, for hours! She is also respectful to older dogs.  She's a smart girl that knows basic commands, is potty trained, plus she’s eager to please.  She loves to cuddle when she's sleeping or relaxing, either with humans or other dogs. She's well behaved in public and in restaurants - but is very interested in meeting other dogs too.  She needs some leash training and we're working on that. She's still very full of young puppy energy! Jubilee is 57% Siberian Husky, 23% Australian cattle dog, 9% Alaskan malamute, 3% Samoyed and 3% Chow Chow! All this in a petite and fun sized little girl t hat wants to be your BFF! Click here to watch a video of Jubilee.      May 4, 2024, 4:41 pm

Story
I am a happy, excitable and active girl who loves to go for walks. I also walk quite well on leash - not bothered by other humans or dogs around me. Although I am not particularly interested in meeting other dogs, I get along with the ones I do meet. I do not require a lot of attention and could do well in a home as an only dog or other dogs who aren't looking for a play buddy as I am quite content relaxing on my own.    I am full of love and give the best cuddles and kisses. I know basic commands, crate trained, ride well in the car and a very good student, especially when I am working for treats - I also take treats very nicely. I am looking for a home that would love a walking or hiking buddy as I do love the outdoors. I have beautiful brown eyes and would love to be a part of your family!  Click here to watch a video of Prancer the Dancer.      May 4, 2024, 4:41 pm

Meet Apollo! Apollo the brave young man!  Despite enduring a harrowing and tragic house fire at just 5 weeks old, Apollo's spirit shines bright. With captivating heterochromatic eyes—one brown, one blue—Apollo is a vision of beauty. His coat is predominantly white with a very light tan saddle on his back, but this can definitely change as he grows! His boundless energy and unwavering confidence make him a delightful companion, especially when playing with his brother, Atlas. While still adjusting to his surroundings, Apollo's curiosity about other foster dogs is evident, though he seeks comfort by staying close to your feet. No supprice since being born on Valintines Day this Romeo will shower you with kisses and curl up in your lap for the sweetest little puppy snooze session. If you're ready to provide a loving forever home to this resilient pup, Apollo is now ready for his forever home! Puppy: up to 1 yr $450.00 Our dogs are spayed/neutered and a registered chip. For our puppies they are up to date on vaccinations.  Once adopted it is the new owner’s responsibility to continue the remaining vaccinations with a veterinarian. Our adoption process includes an initial conversation about the dog to see if the dog is a good match or if another dog could be a more suitable match. We also will complete a home visit. It should be noted that our adoption counselors know the dogs and can best guide any possible adopter with a suitable match. Please visit https://www.calpaws.org/available-dogs for the adoption application! We are always in need of experienced fosters for the amount of dogs we have coming in. Story
Meet HIROMI HIROMI was turned into the shelter as a found dog. No one ever came for her. Despite being failed by her former person, this sweetheart remains devoted and loving. After Hiromi’s arrival she was initially timid and lacked confidence. She can still be somewhat apprehensive but she has opened up and trusted us enough to let her true colors shine! She is silly, sensitive, refreshingly affectionate, playful and a free spirit. Her absolute favorite past time is to be showered with love and give it in return. Her gentle, resilient nature is inspiring but not surprising. Hiromi is very communicative by expressing a multitude of emotions with her eyes. Her body language is inviting and she understands how to use it to subtly let you know what’s on her mind. She is also an Akita so stubbornness is part of her DNA! Her ideal adopter should have a calm home environment and be able to provide consistency and a daily routine, where she can continue to expand her horizons. Hiromi gets excited for her daily walks and is a great traveler! She seems non-reactive to other dogs and might do well with a mellow male dog. She is approx 4 yrs old and weighs 57 lbs. She is also crate and house trained. She is ready to pledge her love and devotion! Are you?! If you are interested in adopting, please complete our adoption application found on our website here: https://www.namasteakitarescue.com/how-do-i-adopt There you will find helpful information about the adoption process, FAQ's, etc **PLEASE NOTE, we must first approve an application before a meeting can be arranged between a prospective adopter and our dogs. Story
What kind of person drops off their beloved family member at a boarding facility, says they’ll be back in two days and is never seen or heard from again? After multiple attempts, the staff finally reached the owners. Their response was they were not coming back for him. Imagine you are Ponyo, waiting day after day, and one day becomes two, then two days becomes a week and then a month. At what point do dogs give up hope? Akitas are known for their fierce loyalty and devotion. Sadly, in this instance his loyalty was rewarded with betrayal. Thankfully, Ponyo is resilient and his joy of freedom overshadowed his despair. He’s 4yrs old and is a happy, fun-loving boy. He is best as an only dog and requires an experienced Akita owner. Ponyo is settling in and is getting plenty of attention, interaction and enrichment. Interested in adopting? Go to the link below for our adoption application and information about our adoption process. https://www.namasteakitarescue.com/how-do-i-adopt **PLEASE NOTE, our adoption process requires an application, phone interview and home visit before a meeting with a dog can be arranged.
