Story
Bodie (also known as Brownie) is a 1-year-old Boxer/Pittie mix with a zest for life and a heart full of love! Weighing around 40 pounds, this energetic pup is always ready for action and still has plenty of playful puppy energy to burn. He absolutely loves running around in the yard, playing with his toys, and making new canine friends. Bodie thrives in the company of other dogs and has become quite the social butterfly at Hounds Town, never failing to get the whole room moving with his infectious enthusiasm. Because of his high-energy nature, Bodie would do best in a home with kids 10 and older who can keep up with his playful spirit. A home without cats is preferred. If you're looking for a fun-loving, active companion who will bring excitement and joy into your life, Bodie is the perfect pup for you! Apply today to meet this lovable goofball!   If you are interested in adopting/meeting this pup , please complete our online adoption application that you can find here: https://www.starfishanimalrescue.com/adopt/dog-adoption-application  . Age/Birthdate: 01/24/2023 Location: Brookfield, IL * Fully Vetted: Yes Any Special Medical or Special Needs: NO, just finished heartworm treatment & is clear! 100% Healthy boy! Temperament with: Dogs: Good Cats: Unsure Children list specific ages: 10 and up. Strangers: Good Training Needs: Crate Trained: Yes Potty Trained: Yes 🐾 Hi, I’m Dancer! 🐾 I’m a handsome Boxer mix with one adorable ear that stands up—pretty cool, right? I’ve got a gentle, loving personality and get along great with other dogs and cats. I’m crate trained, potty trained, walk well on a leash, and I know some basic commands too! I’m also super treat-motivated—just don’t be surprised if I get a little protective of my food. It’s just too good! I love to play with toys outside and then come inside to snuggle up with my people. I’ve never met a stranger—I’m happy to greet everyone with a wag and a soft smile. Whether you're looking for a cuddle buddy, a playmate, or a loyal companion, I’m your guy. I’d fit right into just about any home. I'm easygoing, loving, and ready to start my new life with a family of my own. Could that be you? This dog is currently located in Chicago's southwest suburbs and can be seen by appointment once an adoption application is completed and approved by the rescue. Please note that we cannot hold dogs for any reason. If the dog or puppy is not yet fully vetted, we can only consider applications from adopters within an hour's drive or 40 miles of Lemont, IL, due to required vet visits at our partner veterinarians. For fully vetted dogs or puppies, we welcome applications from out-of-state or beyond the 40-mile radius. Please only apply if you are ready to meet and welcome a new companion into your home within five days of approval. Breed and Age Information: Unless the puppy was born in our care, we cannot guarantee the breed or age. Breed and age estimates are based on veterinary advice, shelter records, physical appearance, and information provided by previous owners. Adoption Fee: $350 The adoption fee includes: Spay/neuter (performed at one of our partner veterinarians as scheduled by the rescue) Microchip Rabies vaccine DHPP vaccine Bordetella vaccine 4DX test (Heartworm, Anaplasmosis, Ehrlichia, Lyme Disease) General wellness care, including deworming, heartworm prevention, and flea/tick prevention Your adoption fee also helps support medical care for other rescue animals, including heartworm treatments, surgeries, and emergency care. Spay/Neuter Policy: We spay/neuter dogs at 16 weeks or older, at the discretion of the rescue and in consultation with our partner veterinarians. While some veterinarians recommend delaying the procedure based on a breed™s projected size, as a rescue, our primary goal is to prevent unwanted litters. Spaying and neutering also provide significant health benefits, including cancer prevention and reducing behavioral issues. The American Animal Hospital Association and the American Veterinary Medical Association support pediatric spay/neuter for cats and dogs as early as 16 weeks. We carefully assess each case to determine the best timing for the procedure. Interested in Adopting? Submit an adoption application at www.rubywhiskers.org/adopt

Story
Meet Bruno! Age/Birthdate: 04/12/2024 * Current Weight: 43lbs * Fully Vetted: Yes * Adoption Fee: Was sponsored by a generous person Any Special Medical or Special Needs: Yes, Bruno will need pregabalin for life due to pain management from being hit by a car. He has some scar tissue that wrap the nerves near his sacrum that may cause pain when he's very active. He takes 1 pill a day and the med cost with Walmart is about 20$ every few months Temperament with: Dogs: Great! Cats: He has met cats and has done well. Children list specific ages: He LOVES everyone but would be best in a home with kiddos 10 and up as has some typical puppy behaviors Strangers: Amazing! He has never met a stranger in his life! Training Needs: Crate Trained: Yes Potty Trained: Yes Bruno is a MIRACLE Boxer/Lab born around 04/12/2024 weighing in at 43 pounds! Bruno isn’t just a dog — he’s a miracle on four legs. This sweet, goofy boy came into rescue after being hit by a car, leaving him with multiple pelvic and leg fractures. He was in excruciating pain to the point where he was unable to walk and spent a lot of time crying. While many specialists gave up hope, Ruby Whiskers Rescue saw the spark in him and refused to quit. After weeks of rest, recovery, and an FHO surgery, Bruno defied the odds. Today, he’s walking, running, and living life to the fullest — you’d never guess what he’s been through by looking at his wagging tail and happy grin! At just over a year old, Bruno is a medium-sized, high-energy dog who’s FULL of love and playfulness! He absolutely ADORES playing with other dogs and would thrive in a home with another high energy companion that can help him burn his puppy energy! Additionally, Bruno would love a home with a fenced-in yard, as he LOVES to run and stretch his legs now that he can use them again- he has a lot of time to make up for! Bruno is a TOTAL goofball who enjoys toys, chew bones, and a good game of indoor fetch! He’s a bit of a chewer — remotes, beware! — so he does best when crated if you’re not home! He is fully potty trained, does well in his crate, and sleeps comfortably through the night in his roomy setup! This sweet boy LOVES people but still has some puppy habits — he’ll jump up to say hello and is a bit mouthy when playing. His foster has been working on this, and he’s improving every day with consistency and structure! Bruno responds well to a calm but firm “no” and benefits from positive reinforcement! While he doesn’t know many formal commands, Bruno is extremely smart and would do wonderfully with a basic obedience class to channel his energy and focus! On walks, Bruno can pull and does best with a harness and he’s not reactive to people or other dogs he passes! He rides calmly in the car when crated, does well for baths and blow-drying (he even tries to chew the air from the dryer like a goof!), and has no toy, water, or food aggression towards people or other dogs! He free-feeds throughout the day and occasionally tries to sneak treats from his foster sister because this boy loves a good treat! Bruno’s ideal home would be with an active family who can give him exercise, structure, and love! A home with another playful dog and older children would be perfect, as his enthusiasm might be too much for toddlers. He’s vocal when he wants to go outside, play, or come back in, but it’s never excessive! Due to his past injuries, Bruno takes pregabalin twice daily for mild chronic pain — an inexpensive medication that keeps him comfortable and active! After everything he’s overcome, Bruno deserves a family who will see him not as “the injured dog,” but as the vibrant, loving, goofy boy he is! He’s resilient, affectionate, and full of joy — a true survivor with a heart of gold! If you’re looking for a loyal companion who will fill your days with laughter, love, and a touch of mischief, Bruno is your guy! If you're interested in meeting Bruno the miracle baby, please fill out the application below! https://www.rubywhiskers.org/adopt This dog is currently located in Chicago's southwest suburbs and can be seen by appointment once an adoption application is completed and approved by the rescue. Please note that we cannot hold dogs for any reason. Please only apply if you are ready to meet and welcome a new companion into your home within five days of approval. Mookie has been at WCHS for over 2.5 years waiting for a family to take her in.Mookie is sweet and playful with the people she knows and trusts. Mookie's favorite outdoor activities include sunbathing and taking naps in the pool. Mookie has been diagnosed with arthritis and hypothyroidism. She is on meds for both and seems to be doing well! She is working on losing some weight to help with the arthritis, too. Mookie does prefer to be the only dog in the home. Story
Marlo is 4 years old and guessed to be a Saint Bernard/ Pit mix. This beautiful girl has been at WCHS for over 2 years. She's all muscle (weighing in around 75lbs) and goofy, loving eyes. While some might find her looks to be intimidating, this girl could not be sweeter. The shelter staff adore this girl and she gives just as much love in return. Not only is Marlo loving, she is very energetic and active. She loves walks and does great with her harness. She is a big fan of our fenced outdoor pens where she can run and play with toys. Speaking of toys, Marlo LOVES balls: tennis balls, basketball-sized balls, giant indestruct-a-balls. You name it, she's playing soccer with it. She does need some training with play time as she can get too excited when you go to grab the toy and will try to grab it at the same time as you. She will gently jump up onto you for love and to give kisses, too. Sometimes she'll even climb onto your lap to snuggle. Marlo needs an active and strong leader who can help her be her best! She is looking for a home without cats or dogs. She would do best with older children as she is a big strong girl who loves to jump and run. Are you looking for an active dog with lots of love to give? Marlo would love to come home with you!
