Story
Bryce is Sponsored by Anne MeinertHey - I’m Bryce. I give off strong “cool guy” energy. Confident walk, happy expression, the kind of presence that makes you think I’m running the show. And honestly? I don’t mind letting people believe that. In another life, I was definitely the president of my fraternity—natural leader, undeniable charisma, everyone knew who was in charge. But here’s the truth I don’t advertise.Behind the cool, pretty boy exterior is a dog who lives for affection. I like to act like I’m supervising things, keeping order, making sure everything’s under control… but if you sit down, I’m suddenly very interested in being right next to you. A well-timed belly rub or chest scratch and my tough-guy act disappears completely.I’m affectionate, loyal, and happiest when I’m close to my people. I enjoy being involved in whatever you’re doing, whether that’s lounging on the couch or going for a hike. I may pretend I’m the boss, but what I really want is connection, comfort, and a home where I can relax and be myself. I will thrive with consistent daily exercise and mental stimulation. If you’re looking for a dog with confidence, charm, and a secretly soft heart, I think we’ll get along just fine.I’ll keep up the tough act - you just keep the belly rubs coming. Due to additional adoption requirements for this special boy, we require a pre-application to be submitted and approved prior to scheduling a meet-and-greet. We are unable to accommodate walk-ins, as we want to ensure the best match while minimizing unnecessary stress for him.If you’d like to schedule an appointment, check out the pets’ profile on our website at newberganimals.com to fill out an application and email to frontdesk@newberganimals.com.Due to COVID-19, we are currently only open by appointment. Story
Turtle is a bright, affectionate young dog who forms deep bonds with his people and thrives on connection, structure, and shared adventures. At home, he is playful, loyal, and happiest when learning new things or spending quiet time with his favorite humans. He loves long decompression walks in peaceful places where he can explore at his own pace. Turtle is a sensitive soul who feels safest in calm, predictable environments. Like many intelligent dogs, he can become overwhelmed by busy settings or unfamiliar situations and may bark or react when unsure. Because of this, he is looking for an experienced, adult-only home with someone who enjoys working with thoughtful, emotionally complex dogs and uses force-free methods. He has food sensitivities (no chicken or beef) and does best on a salmon-based diet. Turtle has received extensive professional support and has a strong foundation; he simply needs the right environment and handler to continue building confidence.

Story
RALPHIE is a 1 year old, 41.5 lbs., male Australian Shepherd mix that came into the Orange County shelter as a stray on 12/16/2025 from the City of Orange. His owner hasn't shown up to claim him and take him home. RALPHIE was brought into the shelter on a catch pole. He was biting the pole, so his mouth was bloody upon intake. Shelter notes say he was more fearful than aggressive. In his kennel, RALPHIE is more interested in treats than toys. He seems to want to engage with staff but is extremely overwhelmed by all the noise and chaos going on around him. On 12/20/2025, RALPHIE was taken out of his kennel: * 12/20/2025: At front of kennel today during morning cleaning. Opened kennel door, RALPHIE laid down and allowed leashing. Opened kennel door wide, dog urinated then dashed out, pausing and freezing in between short bursts of dashing. Noise level of bldg 1 rose significantly after we walked out of kennel, dog continued dashing and displaying increasingly frantic behavior. Able to quickly coax him out of bldg, defecating as we walked. Dog froze and laid down outside of bldg 1, flopping on his side. Leaned against brick wall while slightly crouched ~3ft away sideways to him and allowed him to decompress. After about ~30 seconds, dog glanced at me; I avoided eye contact and kept face parallel to him. Noticed him stand up and crawl towards me. Kept still. Dog then dashed past me and began thrashing on leash, anxious whining, flailing and flipping himself on leash in attempts to remove leash pressure. Used paws to attempt to pull leash away. Attempted to guide hand with him to ease leash pressure, dog continued flipping and flailing. Dog began chewing through leather leash quickly. ACAs saw and quickly opened doors as I walked him back. Dog continued flailing and attempting to chew through leash, noticed several large holes in leash as he chewed. Dog became frantic and dashed towards staff and myself in walkway, unsure if he was charging or attempting to minimize leash pressure. Able to place him back in kennel with leash attached.     RALPHIE has displayed moments of curiosity and seemingly affiliative engagement in kennel with staff. However, this behavior does not generalize beyond in kennel. When removed from kennel, RALPHIE demonstrates a marked increase in stress related behaviors, indicating that exposure to the shelter environment exceed his capability to self-soothe and regulate. Attempts at handling out of kennel result in extreme fear responses, including intense fixation on fleeing by: chewing through leather leash, flailing and attempting to pull the leash off, defecating and urinating. Due to RALPHIE'S inability to tolerate routine handling, he will not be considered for public adoption. We are recommending placement with rescue only. ##2622392##

Story
Born: June 20, 2020 Weight: 40 to 45 lbs Finn is a red tri mini Australian Shepherd with the soul of a cuddle bug and the personality of a cartoon character. He is fully potty trained, extremely patient, and not vocal at all; a wonderfully quiet house companion. He is a classic Velcro dog, loves to follow his person around the house, sleep in bed with you, and soak up affection. Finn is food motivated and very snuggly, with a goofy, silly side that keeps things light and funny. His recall could use some work, and he can be reactive toward other dogs, but with patient, consistent training he could improve and potentially integrate with other pets. Finn would thrive in a calm home with someone who enjoys companionship, routine, and lots of couch cuddles.

Story
Born June 2 2021 Weight 55 lbs Carter is a bigger mini Australian Shepherd with a big personality and an even bigger heart. He has better recall than his brother and is incredibly friendly with people. He’s very food motivated and loves to play catch, run, and explore and especially at the beach, which is basically his happy place. Carter is vocal and expressive, so he’s not shy about sharing his opinions with the world. He’s playful, affectionate, and thrives with activity and engagement. Like Finn, he can be reactive toward other dogs, but with the right patience and structured introductions, he could likely learn to coexist with them. Carter would do best with someone active who enjoys outdoor adventures and doesn’t mind a chatty dog with lots of enthusiasm. They have always been considered our forever dogs, and this decision comes from wanting the very best possible future for them. Ideally they will go to the same home forever and ever
